Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me
i think i've become the sort of someone who scared me stiff when i was young
guys. guys i can't stop thinking about that transgender rabbit.
the bait and switch of the century. she's a terrible person. she used to be a tumblr sexyman. she's the most popular canon transfem character. ever. she has borderline personality disorder. she's a cringe girlfail lesbian. she's bugs bunny in her mind palace. she's even emo.
"We want more complicated female characters!"
Ya'll couldn't even handle HER.
Important tags to include actually.
The delicious irony that is steve spending all of s4 whining (affectionate) that he doesn't want to be the babysitter anymore, he's always partnered with dustin, he wants to go off with nancy and robin instead
And then when it comes time to do the final plan he gets his wish and he does not! want!! to go!!! He does not want to leave Dustin with eddie despite them supposedly having the (relatively) safe part of the plan
And then Dustin is forever traumatised by eddie dying in his arms and steve spends the next eighteen months thinking of all the ways in which he doesn't measure up to a dead man. Insanity.
oh dusteve you mean so much to me
"I'm not actually a demon, sorry." Dustin admitted, feeling a bit bad, truth be told. He'd been a fan of the human world for thousands of years, but never ventured into it - and he'd never been summoned before. "See, you uh... Misspelled Dantalion's sigil. Very understandable, but alas... Not me."
The guy stared at him, jaw open, palm bleeding. "You're... you're real, though? It worked?" He breathed out, sitting more upright in his chair. "Look - I don't care who you are, I just need help."
That was dangerous, incredibly foolish to say to what he thought was a demon. But, humans had a hard time thinking in the long term.
"I don't have any powers to help you, human." Dustin told him. "I'm a... you don't have the word in your language. I gather knowledge. I run a great library, filled with pieces of wisdom from across the cosmos. I don't heal or generally make deals. That's not really my thing."
His face fell, and Dustin watched as hope left deep brown eyes. He was a pretty thing, for a human. Not overly remarkable, but Dustin found himself having a hard time looking away from him. He'd studied a million things, and a million more, and part of him wanted to spend the next thousand years studying this mortal.
"... Please?" The human breathed out, shoulders fallen. "I...I...I used to be good at sports. I used to be a coach for kids...I used to-" his voice cracked, and he looked away from Dustin, a stray tear running down his cheek. "It's not even for me. After the accident, after I couldn't walk anymore, my students...I guess that's a lie, it is for me. I want to see my students again. I want to help them. I can't from this fucking wheelchair."
Dustin appraised him, he could feel the pain radiating off of him. He could see how much he cared. Humans weren't unique in that trait, but Dustin hadn't seen another species so willing to sacrifice themselves for another, often for not even the same species. They were capable of remarkable cruelty, and complete selflessness.
"What's your name?" Dustin asked quietly, as the man wiped at his face.
"Steve," he breathed out. "Steve Harrington. I'm 22. Grew up here, in Hawkins. I'm a little League coach, and I'm trying to get my degree to become a teacher..." Steve told him, exhaling. "I've fucked up a lot in my life, but this felt like I was doing something good. I...God, I don't want to be a burden to my friends, to those kids."
Dustin couldn't cross the barrier Steve had made...if he was a demon, but since he was not, it was easy enough to step over it. He came to Steve's side, crouching down to look him in the eyes, smiling up at him. "I can't heal you, I can't undo what happened, I can't raise you from that chair - but I don't think you're a burden. I'll help you, in the ways I can."
Steve stared at him, swallowing hard. "How? How will you help me?"
"Thousands of years of knowledge up in my noggin', mortal. I'm sure something up there will be helpful." Dustin grinned, and Steve sent him a half smile in return.
"You're...kind of strange," Steve told him, and Dustin couldn't really deny it. "...Thank you. Is there anything I can do-"
"I want to study you," Dustin cut him off, answering him immediately. "For as long as I want. I want to document everything about you."
"Seriously?" Steve let out a surprised laugh. "I'm pretty boring."
"You're the first human to summon me. I think you're incredible." Dustin answered him, and enjoyed as it looked as though the human flushed at the compliment. "I think we're going to be fast friends."
He just didn't say that he wasn't joking about wanting to study Steve for a thousand years. He'd take him back to his realm, eventually. Then, he could have the human all to himself.
Maybe he was a bit of a demon.

I just love that Dustin's reaction to seeing Steve running by, screaming at the top of his lungs is "Yay! Steve! He'll help me with this H.I.C case!"
I also can't help but notice the way this moment kind of parallels Dustin dealing with Dart the demogorgan in season two. He can't do it alone, but no one will answer their damn walkie, and then purely by chance, he crosses paths with Steve Harrington. Steve, who already knows about demogorgans and the Upside Down. Steve, who has a nail bat.
In this moment, Dustin is once again dealing with a creature from the Upside Down. He went off by himself, impulsively, after a disagreement with the Party and is now regretting his decision. But what is he to do? Just let this creature continue attacking the people of Hawkins?? And then the answer literally runs by screaming.
steve and dustin moments in tf85
ok sharing more tf85 steve and dustin moments i specifically loved...
dustin canonically being a total nerd with steve and "knighting him" into his HIC
its so clear the animators had a BLAST animating steve's expressions. his face here kills me. and then the camera pulling back to show his bitchy little hand on hip moment. i LOVE him. (also, idk why but the detail of his jacket slipping off his shoulder is so endearing i just love that the animators bothered to add that detail. plus his hair is incredible here. just... a lot of love for how the animators brought him to life!)
but he gets on the bike! and goes on an adventure with dustin! such a perfect encapsulation of their dynamic here. dustin is so confident with steve and has no compunction about being a nerd around him, and steve clearly is endeared by it even if he puts on a show of being annoyed.
I just love this aspect of their relationship. Steve keeps Dustin grounded. He reminds him of the people around him when he gets too caught up in the joy of discovery and calls him out when he starts acting like an arrogant, self-centered jerk. And he's one of the only people who actually gets THROUGH to Dustin.
Dustin hasn't quite let his arrogance get the better of him yet at this point, but he IS still overlooking his friend's feelings, he is putting the fun he's having with their adventure over the danger he's putting his friends in, and he doesn't seem to realize it until Steve points it out. Because Steve is a lot more emotionally intelligent and can point out how Dustin's coming across to other people, which Dustin is often too caught up in his own head to realize.
Which opens things up for him sharing his own feelings with Steve, and despite calling him out earlier, Steve is ALSO quick to reassure him about his insecurities.
I think it's a nice response to what Dustin does for Steve earlier by offering the hug -- offering easy, no-strings-attached affection after embarrassing himself and opening the door for vulnerability, which Steve hasn't really had in his previous friendships.
Steve keeps Dustin grounded, but he ALSO supports him. Dustin thinks the world of Steve and makes him feel cool without having to be standoffish or fake or not allowed to show vulnerability.
They just make each other better!! They do so much for each other!!
not Steve riding on the back of Dustin’s bike like El on Mike’s
on one of their vacations I just know they rent a tandem bike to go sight-seeing
You want to know what happened to me? I grew up.
