Grandma. This is my Grandma watching her family open gifts this Christmas. She told me that she still just feels like a little girl. We are truly children trapped in an aging avatar.

A Goose Death
I sat with a goose last night. It was dying. It didn’t move as I got close. It hissed a couple times. Soon, it calmed down. I just sat with him. Its eyes broke my heart. Somehow I knew it wanted me near. Or maybe I wanted to be near it. It didn’t want to be alone. I didn’t want to be alone. We don’t want to be alone.
Death. We all run from it. We all try to fix it. We all try to make it better. Honestly, we are all terrified. We hide from it. We redefine it. We demonize it. We bury it deep under layers of locked doors. We tell it what to do. But there it is smiling softly. Our quivering arm will never beat it, stop trying. Let it be. Death invites emotions. Sadness, joy, love and death. They are all related. Face death for but a moment and experience life. Everything else is a grey existence. Consider death, your friend, call it by name. It takes all things. It gives all things. In death, you will find love. That feeling so deep, it pierces the heart like a flood, washing your dirty soul. Be with it and it will whisper about those almost forgotten. Cry baby, everything is all right. They are still there. Hold them close. Death will warm your heart. In the eyes of death is unconditional love. Prejudice, discourse and opposing beliefs melt way. All we want is to simply not be alone in those final moments, to be held in the eyes of another. We cling to that last bit of life in terror and then fade into love.
