(If you would like a post series interaction!) The bucket of water dropped to the ground, spilling its contents onto the parched soil. Floret eyes trained on the man before her, fingers trembling. Half a world away from Kamina City, she was certain it would take her longer than the year that passed to encounter Simon once more. Yet, here he was in the town that had taken in the remnant. "Simon?" His name a whisper. "Is that really you?"

This is the story of a man who fought against fate… Despite all odds;;
Even now, where he had stepped, prior, flowers had bloomed - nothing so substantial as to change the course of eternity, but a simple gesture, a dream by which he still had the ability to realize. That weight at his throat, no longer the key to the destinies of everyone around him… it was proof that she had existed, it was a fragment of the truth he kept as his universe within his heart, and it was why he wandered, soon to be a distant memory in humanity’s scheme. Unparalleled, unrivaled, unhindered by the normal boundaries of space and time, this was the story about a man who held the universe within his grasp, and could not keep the ones he loved from leaving it. To contain and protect, he shackled his homeworld to his own two feet, and wandered it aimlessly, as god-like as any entity could hope to be, simply so children could live peacefully under the sky.
But the ring, made with boundless affection and his one only viable skill, tugged him onward, it seemed, a melancholic goal to ride on the coattails of freeing themselves from tyranny on the evolutionary scale…. to here, he had walked, and walked, and walked, to… where…? - - - Dark irises, the same hue as space at night, hosted a faint green glow, one so more than the other, widened, and a whirlwind of confusion passed both his psyche and complexion. She - had he failed? Had he not managed to reign those emotions, those bonds, those very HUMAN wants, that restraint that kept him from becoming the demise of an entire reality… (The dead are dead.) I keep them here, in my heart (Aniki, Kittan, Nia - everyone.) (Simon isn’t GOD, Gimmy.)But this.. her here - it was what he had hoped for, wasn’t it - at the end of a day, a journey, a lifetime, so when he feet finally gave out, that he could watch the sunset with that whomst he would fight the very stars in the sky for?
“Nia - - - ! !”
A quick glance, towards the water soaking his boots, a quick motion, and rough hands cradled the bucket for a moment, a hopeful smile daring to impede his eternal vigil, as he made a gesture to hand it back to her, along with the wedding ring that had saved their very world.
“… you dropped these.”

He wondered, then - how many different ways one could reiterate the word ‘no‘? In as many forms of communication as existed within the universe… He had assumed he had made himself clear enough, that regardless of what the incomprehensible blob was attempting to do, or why, his will to protect that which he cared for was simply just… stronger.
Not even the realization of an imminent destruction(more than likely by his own hands) was enough to stop the aging hero from wandering as a bygone reminder of war, flowers sprouting at his feet - because that had been her wish.
“No. But I bet you know that - I wasn’t pissed at you because of your reasons, I didn’t care about all that. I was mad because you had taken something of mine, and you were trying to take away everyone’s sky - I just wanted her back, and I wanted you to shut up. Your fire couldn’t outburn ours, or Aniki’s, it’s as simple as that.”
With his brother’s soul blazing at his back, even if there were very few left who would even know why they revered the symbol - it was why he continued, forward, inch by inch, so tonight, everyone could look up and see the stars, and tomorrow, everyone would be able to wake up with the sun.

Hearing Simon’s words, HEARTBREAK loosened the lines of the normally strong and battle-hardened sniper, leaving her face slack and looking as if it actually belonged to the person she really was — a GIRL who had seen far too many people die, a girl who had stood POWERLESS as far too many of the ones she so readily gave all of her heart, her soul, her TRUST to were so brutally ripped away from her hands by the unforgiving world.
Keda was one of them. And then Kaia. Mycee. Nashika. Now… It was Kamina.
Yet another name had been added to the list always draping over the skeletal hand of the patron of the DEAD, yet this name stung markedly more than any of the others combined. Kamina. Kamina. It was a name Yoko had learned such a short time ago, and yet it had become so poignant, such an integral part of all that was EVERYTHING.
That was why Yoko couldn’t even FATHOM the pain being dealt with by one who had known the name since he was a small child, little more than a TODDLER perhaps, from what she could discern. She didn’t even want to TRY to understand it, because she knew that her own pain was more than enough. Adding onto that pain even more for the sake of ‘lending a hand’ or ‘being a friend’ would not have done neither her nor Simon any good. Yoko knew that Simon was strong. He had proven it countless times. What he needed during a time like this, Yoko felt, was not PITY, nor false understanding — but rather, what he needed most right then was sound advice. And, ironically, he needed to know that he was not alone in his own unique feeling of hurt. And, in a more singular way, of despair.
There were so many things that Yoko wanted to say, but couldn’t say at the moment; interestingly, there was only one thing that she could seem to emit verbally.
❝simon. I’m … sure it must be hard for you right now. really hard. but you have to stay strong. if you don’t, then his death will be …❞
Everything will have been for nothing. She stopped herself before she could slip up and allow herself to say the words that hung so heavy like a truth she couldn’t accept — couldn’t VALIDATE, no matter what. Soon, after a shaky inhale and a holding of breath:
❝… I’m sorry. to … to be honest, simon, I’m not at my strongest. I … don’t think talking this out is the best thing for EITHER of us right now.❞

🐾—“Join with yesterday's foe to smash fate,
— and grab tomorrow's path
with our own hands!”
It cut too deep - that obscenely placid look of restraint painted across the Human’s face. His words left a crowded wound down, slicing to the marrow of his bones. Feelings of sorrow, of rage, lamentations and fury gathered, roiled, and howled like wolves, caged within his veins. And idly, the Human responsible for it all, sat across from him. Smiling. Lost. Simply waiting for a death, as the false and dutiful puppet of the New Government.
The Beastman’s broad fingers flexed within like the impatient maw of a carnivore as he steeled his emotion.
He’d watched, from the wastelands, beneath an arid sky, as progression had funneled the wisdom of tyranny into pleasant deception. Humanity… had failed. Not for a lack of effort, of course. But, despite their vast progression, Humans still toiled beneath the yoke of domination.
The harsh climate of Lordgenome’s rule had been redacted, made palatable, and diligently enforced. His fallen, maddened king was everywhere. His fears permeated every statute and edict. His acrid might, adopted and executed - left even Humanity’s young savior safely anchored to a world suited only to burn.
For seven years, he’d wondered why…
Why it was that he was made to survive, an existence without purpose or belonging? Why would a warrior for whom even the surface would not suffice, allow himself to be restrained by title and stipulation? Simon was a man who, as a child, had taken a mantle weighted with the fate of an entire living race, and unfurled it across his shoulders in defiance to his keepers.
Watching the world he’d liberated from a lofty prison… Yet he was not the Spiral King.
Why would he accept the false reaches of an artificial sky?
Viral’s grin split his face - an ivory, crescent moon filled with wet glass. But his eyes belied the embittered amusement in his mouth, as he regarded the Human with almost desperate inquiry.
❝Tch. If you knew how pathetic you looked,
you might feel like offering up some explanation.❞
The Beastman’s skin bristled in cadence to his ire, as he pressed,
❝Or is it that your indomitable hunter’s spirit only burns when you’re slaughtering Beastmen? Hn? Oppression is only thus when it comes from another race, is it?
Ah, that must be it.
Nowadays, when a Human locks you underground, you like to call it “justice,” right?❞
The blond fell silent, averting his hostile gaze. Ignoble. A petty remark, borne of frustration. He knew that Simon had been wronged, as well. It wasn’t this man’s doing alone, that had damned themed to this unsightly fate. But how stomach turned at the thought of letting this pitiful end find them at the end of all of their losses! All of the struggles. All that they had endured. Was it really to accept the sanctimonious judgement of a frightened few?
❝Oi, Ningen… I fought you with the same irreverence that you might host when sweeping dust from your doorstep. Soon after, I fought you because I despised you - loathed that you had taken my sense of aplomb from me. Later, I fought you just to sharpen my teeth on your bones. To test them. Fought you, striving to be worth the survival that you’d cursed me with, after defeating my kin.
…for seven years, more, I fought you.
But not because I despise you.
Not because I desire commendation from my ruined regime.
Today, I would break your nose to just to wring some of that stagnant blood of yours out. I want to grind it into the earth that you don’t touch anymore. I want to dirty it with air that has never crept through a sterile duct. If I drag enough blood through your teeth, maybe it’ll wash the words of someone else, out of your mouth.
Simon. If you can’t give me a decent reason why I have to bear witness to the end of us here - the end of the faces we can only remember, everything that wrought us, by force and by grace alike, here in this unsightly pit,
then I’ll at least break your legs, so you have a reason why you can’t stand.❞
The Beastman canted his head, slightly, a wry expression replacing prior distress. He found that he didn’t believe it. As tempting as it was, to fear that Simon had been tamed by children in white, enraptured by a glimpse of bureaucracy, he didn’t believe it. The Human’s will might be fragmented - but it wasn’t extinguished. And it was uncanny, wasn’t it? Ridiculous, even, that trying to rile the flames behind Simon’s dark eyes had kindled his own conviction. His thoughts had flickered to memories of that man, as he recalled the last time his spirit had rallied with nothing but belief in victory.
Was there still that much blazing fire within just the memory of him?
Could he revive that voice within Simon, from so long ago?

It was fine, if they directed all their resentment to him - it had been by his hand, his will, that caused each and every beastman to be forced to make such radical changes to their lives. Accept this skewed sense of peace and live under the sky, or be forgotten like his brother’s sacrifice had been. But he wouldn’t let them forget his NAME - and he would not let them forget his SPIRIT. - - THEY HAD KILLED EVERYONE(Mom, dad, Aniki), WITH NO REGARD, and he was being chastised for trying desperately to find a middle ground between giving the inglorious defeated a decent existence, and not just slaughtering MURDEROUS, GUILTY life like feral molepigs in a pen. It wasn’t his decision, the choices others made - he didn’t condone suffering, but he couldn’t exactly abolish ill-intent from the world - (WHAT DO YOU WANT FROM ME?) (I’M NOT ANIKI.) (I’M NOT THE SPIRAL KING.) Teeth grit, that dull throb forced into solitary confinement deep within his chest and fumed in an explosion in his throat, threatening to erupt in a seething inferno as dull eyes sharpened, reflecting the fallen soldier with almost glowing teal instead of the dark, dark navy his irises normally boasted. Lips parted as a break in a dam. Then closed, his outcry blocked and swallowed as he drug his knees in closer, draping broad shackles across either knee and letting his head hang momentarily between them, letting the blocky confinement shield his expression for a moment - the choke was audible, and lacked anger. - - Viral knew - he knew, didn’t he? (They felt those things too, right?) What it was like to lose EVERYTHING, to bare witness to something you could do nothing about, to claw at success over and over, only to be met with your GOD(Kamina) killed in front of you. He listened, instead of attacking, then. And he wanted to apologize - for letting down someone else who believed in him. At least he could count on something(someone) to be consistent, in this hellish place.
“What... do you want me to say....? What do you want me to do? You want me to admit, maybe - that I don’t want to save them..... ...I want.. to know if she’s still there - right now, I’m not a hero, sorry. I’m not Aniki. I don’t even care if they burn - but... someone else does, he can handle this - I can’t...” An exhale, and his nape hit the cold wall again. How did one explain, the sensation of wanting to burn down your own accomplishments, after seeing how they were all wasted on an ungrateful world? (SHE GAVE THEM THIS LIFE) (NOT A SINGLE ONE HAS ASKED ABOUT HER.) Not everyone was like that, of course - his team, his friends, random, scared folks who had nothing to do with anything but their own survival...

A dull throb was all he could mange, the clamoring echo of extinguished flame roaring in the back of his mind, wrapped in grief and dampened by an almost serene sort of distance between reality and recognition. IF I DARE TO TAKE A STEP, WHAT WILL HAPPEN?
HOW DARE THEY SPIT ON ALL HE GAVE US. IF I MOVE, THE MOON WON’T MEAN SHIT.
(She wasn’t gone she wasn’t gone it wasn’t her it wasn’t her.)
And all this time, the spirit he was desperately trying to contain, the passion and drive he had tucked safely into a filing drawer labeled ‘the past’, this beastman had been carelessly raking out of his chest at every opportunity.
Familiar, lilting tenors, always managing to illicit just the right amount of instinct that could put anyone on edge - what, now, was he really frustrated with him?
“Ah.. is there… really anything to talk about?”
His calm might sound like resignation, a quirk of a brow might seem like poise and control. His heart was a crackling, swirling storm, and Viral didn’t deserve to be deafened by the lightning that beckoned the booming thunder of the rage he contained.
An idle shrug, the clink of heavy metal raising and falling against the cold floor as he adjusted the bar shackles around his wrists, even donning a small, polite smile as though they were merely old friends discussing a long-dead grievance.

No, no no -no no - no… - - - The chorus of his own swirling thoughts, a debilitating cacophony of uncertainty, was thunderous within the boy’s mind, a wide gaze trained directly upon the dirt beneath him as though he could will the earth to open its maw and swallow him whole - He made no vocal excuses, teeth grit in defiance against his own better judgement - Of course he didn’t want anyone to die, he didn’t want anyone to have to fight…Bu - - The ‘no’s, inward, suddenly blended with an outward voice, overriding the negative barrage overwhelming the young man’s psyche, in a blaze of authoritative excess - he could have shirked for the shame, was his distress so loud, that his beloved soul-sibling could hear him, even in spirit?
“I - …. I - - …”
This wasn’t.. someone of all people, all others, that he wanted to let down - not him, not the man(brother.) who had been the only one besides his own parents to look at him as though he wasn’t the dirt on the ground in which he tunneled into.
A deep breath, clutching the metal at his heart tight into his chest, and an exhale, releasing every bit of logic from within his being in favor of the future,
That dark gaze finally trained upwards, towards the sun, towards that which gave him the sky and the stars - it wasn’t anything akin to confidence, but he was steeled.

It wasn’t as though he doubted... no, maybe that wasn’t exactly true, doubt was a constant companion with no end to resources and tribulations within the boy’s head... it was far more accurate to say that he chose to put aside the immediate consequences that came to mind whenever his beloved soul-brother said or did... just about anything. Within dirty digger’s hands was a cup of water, which he was attempting to nudge gently, but with vague insistence, into the elder’s grip.
“Aniki - ah....”
A pause, words swallowed - he didn’t actually have any better ideas, so what good would it do to damper their forward momentum? He’d just be scolded, wouldn’t he?
“That.. don’t you think it was too reckless? That last fight?“
In the end, it was concern, fear of loss, that lead the words to rise from his throat.
