I am very pleased to officially introduce you to the short documentary film I have been working on for several months, 'Brooklyn Grange- A Portrait of Urban Farming'. It is a project that I conceived last year and have been filming for the past six months with a group of fantastic young filmmakers here in Brooklyn. Our director is a very talented guy named Michael Tyburksi and I am producing the film alongside Ben Nabors, owner of Group Theory, a production company based in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. We have been following these crazy agrarians trying to build the world's largest rooftop farm since the roof was bare early this spring, and will wrap shooting in the next month or so. The film will be released Winter 2012 and there will be plenty of opportunities for everyone to see it once we finish (film festivals, screenings, etc). Please check out the links below to watch some featurettes and get more information about the farm. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to ask and please pass it along to anyone you think might be interested. I believe the food we put into our body is the driving force behind living a good life, and these farmers are working tirelessly to improve the way this city, and consequently the world, eats! Cheers!
tonight i made one of my favorite lazy man dinners of all time- pasta with hot sauce. this evening, after a long week of overnight shooting (i work in film and tv), i just needed some relaxation. i cracked open the high west rye whiskey and cooked up some penne. drain the pasta but save some of the cooking water to make a sauce with hot sauce. tonight i also added some cream cheese i had in the fridge to the franks red hot and pasta water. pure magic of creamy spicy deliciousness!
so then, as i was eating, i started thinking about the burn. love it, but why? here's the answer. and FYI, the pain can't cause physical damage- just a trick of the mind!
get hot.
very very interesting- sad stats on the US though...yikes!

saturday morning breakfast- aged raclette from valley shepherd creamery right downstairs from our home, baguette and sweet cerignola olives. perfection
already knew this, but this study can back me up! but remember, a life of moderation and balance is of utmost importance, and that goes for drinking as well.
shall i crack one open to celebrate?
be proud if you're one of us!
our bounty of wine from sonoma has arrived! we had a lovely afternoon and drinking at peterson's winery and ended up with half a case of deliciousness: rose, shiraz, cab and zin (Taken with Instagram at The Gernert Co)
course ground gorilla coffee, roasted right down the street in park slope. ready for our cold brew system. in 12 hours it will be a dark syrup form of gold! (Taken with Instagram at A+B Home)

this is haunting, and absolute proof that we should avoid applebee's like the plague!
last week we cooked a lovely fresh ricotta smothered mint cukes salad, made with the trifecta of mint, basil and chives and good evoo- simple recipe, great result. we put it next to a piece of baked white fish and it was a lovely meal for a hot spring afternoon!
few issues get us fired up more than american eating habits. we love to eat, we love to drink- but for the love of god, do it in moderation! binge once a week, maybe twice, not every night. it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this problem out!
spoiled morning, americano (black of course) and a warm croissant at el beit in Williamsburg. happy.
it's an art we practice with whole-hearted commitment. whether it's an early morning pint of guinness at nevada smith's for a liverpool match or an afternoon of reading with a few ipa's. pure magic!
