Hi! I’m Maria Filipe Castro, aka droolwool, a Fiber and Toy Artist from Portugal, currently based in the UK. I design characters in a deliciously cute style that I sculpt using needles and wool, creating unique and one-of-a-kind Art Toys and Soft Sculptures. Using food and nature as inspiration, I love to tell tiny stories with a touch of innocence and lots of humor. My characters portray spontaneous human reactions, capturing moments that only children and especially toddlers are capable of demonstrating. With each character I create, I’ve been building a special world where fruits, clouds, sweets, and elements of nature come to life and share their personal stories about love, friendship, self-expression, misfortunes, and overcoming obstacles, among other daily life events. I’m currently teaching Needle Felting and design approach on an online course at Domestika, a technique that I’ve been developing for almost 10 years.

No, it's not the peak of summer, and no, Melting Heart isn't in the sauna either... He's just overly sensitive to all the beautiful things that surround him. A beautiful dress? A shiny new car? An expensive necklace? No, no and no! Beauty has so many different meanings, but for this heart, it means enjoying the simple things in life. Hearing a child's giggle, sipping a warm tea on a cold day, or even listening to a song that makes you feel like dancing... Valentine's day was the main inspiration for this piece, but then I thought why not celebrate a broader sense of what love is?
