red is fake
Yonggook’s fork sailed up to his mouth as he popped in another piece of cake. He usually chose to avoid desserts, keeping to his strict diet of whole-wheat, vegetables and protein shakes, but everyone had to give in to sweet things, right?
Even the health-conscious Yonggook enjoyed a slice or two of pie and a few doughnuts every now and then, especially if those doughnuts had creamy icing with plenty of sprinkles.
“It’s carrot cake.” He answered her. “I figured the carrots make up for the fact that it’s cake.” He laughed a little. “Or at least that’s what I try to tell myself.” As if to prove his point, he scooped a large chunk of cake into his mouth, closing his eyes as the flavor hit him.
“What about you?” He asked. “What are you having?”
"Lemon buttercream icing... on white cake?" Misung used her fork to scrape away a bit of the heavenly tart icing to look underneath. "Yeah, white. But that isn't what matters here."
Laughingly, she took a bite. "And you can keep telling yourself that, but I honestly don't see the point in guilting yourself over a little treat every once in a while."
What had started out an obnoxiously boring day in a lone of many many boring days was turning out to be a little more fun than Misung had anticipated; Yonggook was a friendly guy that it felt strangely okay to hide less around. She wasn't going to be spilling her darkest secrets around the guy, but it felt good to be able to say something and know that it was -mostly - the truth.
With a wry smile, she took a sip of her cooling coffee before turning back to him, "So how long have you been working here? I think I saw your name on the teacher roster somewhere."
