Drummers:

If you’re cracking your cymbals you have one or both of these two problems.

1) You have cheeseball cymbals (i.e. poorly made or defective). You almost always get what you pay for. Having two really great expensive cymbals is way better than having a dozen cymbals, 9 of which you never use and all of which are just itching to crack.

2) Your technique is bad. Believe it or not cymbals sound so much better when you hit them softly with the tapered shoulder of the stick with a “glancing” motion. There is no need to caveman smash your cymbals. All you’re doing is making them sound worse and cutting their life span drastically. Also you’re damaging your own hearing and that of your band mates.
