Good samaritans carry Tom Eckman and his pregnant girlfriend, Claire James away from the line of fire.  

Claire laid on the hot cement next to the dead body of her boyfriend for an hour and half after being shot by spree killer, Charles Whitman. After getting hit by the bullet, Claire said, “I thought I’d stepped on an electric cord because when you get shot, it feels like this huge jolt.” She collapsed to the ground as Tom shouted, “Baby!” and lunged for her. “He didn’t say anything else. I had no idea he’d been shot. I just knew he didn’t talk again.”

Thanks to the brave individuals who risked all to carry Claire away, she lived. Heartbreakingly, her boyfriend, the “love of her life” did not survive, along with her unborn baby.

Ouroboros

Ouroboros is an ancient symbol depicting a snake biting its tail. The origin of this symbol is unknown, as it appears in history of almost every nation and is a symbol of many things. Ouroboros is a symbol of eternity and infinity, darkness and light, as well as the infinite cycle of nature’s endless creation and destruction, life and death.

According to Norse mythology, the serpent Jörmungandr grew so long that it encircles the world and grasped its tail in its teeth. When the end of the world comes, Jörmungandr will fight against all gods. But the cycle of life and death will never end. There will be new gods, new people and new monsters. A never-ending battle. 

The symbol was also used by many famous psychiatrists. For example, Carl Jung created a system of archetypes in which Ouroboros represented dualism. There is a constant battle inside of us between creation and destruction. And this battle keeps a balance in our mind. This state guarantees mental health.

On July 20, 1985, serial killer Richard Ramirez forced his way into the Khavonanth home. Somkid was awakened by Richard’s presence and he immediately rushed to her, clamped a hand over her mouth, and put his .25 auto to her head, ordering her not to make a peep. He left her and found her husband sleeping in the bedroom. Richard killed him instantly with one shot to the head, returned to Somkid, and raped her. Afterward, he tied her up and raped her again in the bedroom where her deceased husband lay. During the assault, an alarm went off in her 8-year-old son’s bedroom and he ran into the boy’s room, tied him up, and gagged him with a sock before beginning his frenetic ransacking. He returned to Somkid and demanded that he guide her to all the valuables that she owned. He dragged her around the house by the hair all while cursing and slapping her and made her repeatedly swear on Satan that she had no other valuables left. After swearing on Satan there was nothing more, Richard bound Somkid’s ankles and took off, leaving her tied up on the bathroom floor.
