Hello! I have a small idea for a fic. Valentina leaving for a week or so, leaving just Luca and little Samuele. And everything turning into chaos or pure father son moment
Luca is a capable man. The right-hand man to the most-feared Don this side of Sicily. He is scared of only two things in life— of his wife, Valentina, and of disappointing his son, Samuele.
Much to his surprise, his son adores him; but then again, Sam is a sweet kid. He’s kind, curious. Luca can see so much of Valentina in him. His crystal blue eyes, his questioning glance, the way he carries himself as if he knows he belongs, his careful calculation of a situation.
Luca sees a lot of his traits in his boy too. Sam’s reckless confidence, his quick and sneaky hands, his humor, the way he enjoys little pranks, the way he is hopelessly devoted to his mother, the way he likes to be useful.
When Valentina was pregnant, Luca was scared to have a child, scared to have a son, and scared the child may turn out like him. His life is not one that values family time. Not very many quiet moments for the two of them to share. How could they bond? But all of those moments quickly faded away the moment Valentina handed Luca their son. Luca had hardly put him down the first year of his life. And now, at nearly 4 years old, Samuele is quick to follow him around, like a baby duck.
Per usual, the baby duck is up early, following Luca to the stables, holding his hand and talking to him about a story his mother had told him. Something or other about something or other. Words still sound clunky in the child’s mouth and Luca cannot understand him as well as Valentina can. He thinks it must be a language only a mother can know, because surely it is not Sicilian.
When they reach the stable, Luca puts Sam on his shoulders, so he can reach the horse to pet it. Sam has always been so soft to the animals around the villa. His heart is so soft, pure, Luca hopes this is something he will be able to keep. He hopes the world does not make his son into a monster. It’s a scary place out there, he can’t imagine his angel son being thrust into this life.
Inevitably, Luca knows he will be. Bernardo had a daughter and then never remarried to have a son. He is so overprotective of Isabella, and while Luca understands because he is a father himself, he cannot imagine using his own son as a political or business pawn, the way the father of a daughter has to.
Cesare is around more now, and will move into the villa in a few months, when he turns 13, to begin men’s work. But Luca can see, the Don is overprotective of Cesare as well. Lets him make stupid mistakes, he doesn’t correct his behavior, only covers it up. The Don is not training him to be a leader. Realistically, Luca knows, Bernardo must have a plan for his Samuele, that he is just not looping him into. And that thought terrifies him.
The shrill shriek of “Papa!” draws Luca out of his thoughts and onto his son.
“Si Bambino? What is it?” Luca asks, reaching into the bucket of dry oats that hang on the side of the fence, and throwing a handful of them onto the ground of the animal enclosure.
“Look!” Sam shrieks again, his small fingers pointing to something in the distance. Whatever it is, from this angle, Luca cannot see it. “Ah, OK, Sam.” he says instead.
Sam giggles from atop his head and Luca smiles to himself. It is his favorite sound in the world. Luca continues down the cobblestone path, making his way to the pig pen. His mind is still so distracted, that while he ducks under the tree branch, he forgets to tell Sam to, and doesn’t realize Sam is still looking at whatever he saw before, until he hears the immediate cracking noise of his son’s face making direct contact with the firm branch of the tree above them.
The cracking, followed by a loud and shrill cry, make Luca’s blood run cold.
He stops in his tracks and quickly gets the boy off of his shoulders. “Sam! I am so sorry, Sam! You need to look where you’re going, you need to watch, you need to pay attention. Papa ducked, you should duck.” Luca frantically says, trying to pull Sam’s hands from where he is holding his face.
Sam is crying loudly and fighting Luca not to touch him. His shoulders are shaking and he is again mumbling in that toddler language he has. “Sit still, Samuele! Stop. Let Papa see. Show me. Where does it hurt? Samuele!” Luca’s tone is building. His anxiety is skyrocketing. He is not good at consoling their son. What if something is truly wrong?
Finally, he gets Sam to lower his hands, and Gianluca can feel himself pale. Sam’s little hands covered in blood, his nose spilt at the bridge, a scratch near his eyes from the small stems of the leaves.
Luca has to remember he is the adult, he is the parent, he is the comfort, and he has to act fast. Valentina is better at this. Better at most things. He thinks it is another thing mothers are just blessed with. But she is not here, he is. He can’t show he’s upset because he knows it will then upset Sam.
He grabs Sam’s small and bloodied hand and leads him to the well. Sam is still crying, and when Luca looks over at him, the blood is beginning to drip down his face. Luca internally cringes but tries to act calm.
He drops the pail into the well, feels it fill, and then brings it up. He motions for Sam to come next to him, and Sam reluctantly shuffles over to him.
Luca dunks Sam’s hands in the water and scrubs them clean. Then Luca cups his hands together and lifts a bit of water to Sam’s nose.
It’s hot out, and Sam must think the water on his face is a game, because he starts to laugh. Luca smiles, though shakily, as he tries to clear the blood from Sam’s face. Sam’s cheeks are flushed from the bit of crying, but his cheeks are so chubby when he laughs like this.
The blood stops soon after, though the area is red, swollen, and will definitely bruise a deep purple. But for now, Gianluca can stop worrying about it. He knows Valentina will ream into him about not paying attention, about their son getting hurt, about the bruise it will leave.
Gianluca sits on the ground with Sam and pulls Sam into his lap. Luca kisses the top of Sam’s head, gently. His dark brown hair is lightening a bit in the hot Sicilian sun. Sam doesn’t seem to notice, nor care, about his injured face anymore, as he settles the bucket of water in between his legs and splashes around in it instead.
Luca finds his own eyes wet with unshed tears as he hears Sam giggling and splashing around in the blood-soaked water. Luca sees his son’s blood on his hands, on his shirt, and has to bite his tongue to stop any other emotions from flowing like this.
His son is fine. He is fine. But how much longer will he have a childhood like this? How much longer will Luca get to have a son and not a solodato?
The thought jars him. Horrifies him. Maybe more than the rage he knows he will get from Valentina upon bringing their baby home bruised.
“Samuele, let’s pick flowers for Mama on the walk back to the house, yes?”
Sam enthusiastically nods, and even though Luca doesn’t know much of Sam’s toddler language, he knows enough to know that means he wasn’t listening at all.

For how loud the cabin had just been, somehow the sudden silence rang out louder. It was all still there, vibrating through his bones, quivering in the air - the sound of glass breaking, the music blaring from the phone, Jessica screaming, screaming, screaming...
"Y'know," Josh said, startling him out of his reverie, but when Mike turned, he found he wasn't looking at him but that broken window, his eyes still following the little chips of glass as they dropped to the floor, "just becuase we lost the trois doesn't mean this ménage can't - "
"Are you fucking kidding me right now, dude?!"
His hands went up a second later, a belated defense, and while life was slowly coming back into his eyes, his voice remained flat as he stammered, "Sorry - sorry! That's just, uh...that's just how I...handle...extreme trauma...apparently...I guess."
i believe Enzo loves to read, especially historical stuff or so, and Cesare probably would call Enzo boring for sitting around reading instead of doing anything that isn’t related to reading
(Cesare definitely has no interest of reading and gets bored of it fast)
