My study project. I have always dreamed of making an animation based on The Silmarillion and I also really like Tomm Moore's cartoons. And I think the book's tone and cartoon style would have worked really well together.
I absolutely admire the genius move by JRRT to leave people to wonder if the cursed blade Gurthang really had consciousness or it was just the unlucky Turin pushed to his limits, on the verge of suicide, hallucinating the voice of his sword, telling him that it wants his blood to make up for Beleg’s and Brandir’s, iniquitously spilled by him.
There’s this idea in my head about the Dagor Dagorath, that a reforged Gurthang is what leads a revived and reluctant Turin into battle: a vengeful bloodthirsty blade that got shattered once by feisting over his owner’s iniquous blood, and now wants to take revenge on Melkor, the most evil one, for the curse he put on Hurin and his children.

Over time, the Silmaril has blinded him, his retinas are severely burned and he has developed cataracts. the hallowing of the Silmaril is how he's able to still guard the doors of night, where it detects evil intent directionally. he can still see light and shadow very patchily and blurrily, but it's mostly light because. silmaril.

His primary vice is that he could not be everywhere at once, and sometimes he ended up not seeing his family for long periods of time. When he was home, he always tried his best to be there for his family, but his thoughts were always turned to the West. He could not, in the end, prioritise the family he had with Elwing and their sons over his fate, his love of the sea, and finding the West and his parents. It's less that he loved his family less, and more that he loved so much that he couldn't choose. He gave everything to them that he could give, but some things he simply couldn't surrender.
He flew Vingilot straight into Ancalagon to kill him. Ancalagon's blood was extremely toxic. Eärendil died from it. This was kept incredibly hush-hushed because people can’t know their Star of Hope literally fucking died. He succumbed to chemical burns from Ancalagon’s blood a few days after killing him, and was back within the week.
The silmaril itself and the circlet it was set in have kind of integrated into his forehead over time, and he can’t take it off anymore. The circlet is a silvery pattern on his forehead, and the Silmaril is part of his skull.
he got that tattoo of the valacirca (the big dipper) on his cheek on a dare when he was 17
He wanted to grow a beard like Tuor, but can't. He has a smattering of body and pubic hair, but no facial hair in sight. If even Aragorn, all those generations down, can't grow a beard (and yes, this is confirmed despite his portrayal in lotr movies) can't, then Eärendil probably couldn't.
This is meant to be a Gondorian mural from the early fourth age in reference to the lore of the first age, so the symbolism is in reference to that. This mural was requested by my husband due to the toilet here being ridiculously tall and hence we call it ‘Thingol’s throne’
