Campbell keen to make waves for Britain at Tokyo 2020

Interview: The 23-year-old is excited for surfing’s Games debut

dryrobe ambassador Lucy Campbell  spoke to The i Paper about chasing her dream of competing in Tokyo this summer and the advantages of winter training 🤙

Surfers Not Street Children’s Girls Surf Too program helps girls who have found themselves living on the streets or who are living in dangerous accommodation in Durban, South Africa. These girls face a daily battle against sexual and physical violence, drugs, gangs and prostitution.

By using a combination of psychosocial care, mentorship and surfing, they’ve been able to empower the children they work with to leave the streets behind for good.

Last year we helped fund a trip for some of the girls to travel to the J Bay Open to be part of the WSL Rising Tides event. They got to meet some of their surfing heroes including Stephanie Gilmore, Rosy Hodge, Gabriel Medina and Kelly Slater.

“We had got back to shore and were looking at the array of plastic collected and wondering what it would be recycled into. It then occurred to me - why not make kayaks from the plastic we collect and then use these 100% marine recycled kayaks to access more coves and collect more plastic.”

Rob Thompson, the founder of Odyssey Innovation, is passionate about ridding plastic pollution from our oceans.  In 2014 he established Fathoms Free, a volunteer group who retrieve marine plastic and ghost gear from inaccessible areas of the coast. It was on one of these clean ups that he had the ingenious idea to turn the plastic they’d collected into kayaks.

Stoked to announce that Sophie Hellyer has joined Team dryrobe as an ambassador.

As well as being a surfer, writer, producer, yoga teacher and wild swimmer, Sophie is a passionate advocate for protecting the environment.

Sophie created the #RiseFierce movement to inspire women to try cold-water swimming, to promote body-neutrality and to improve mental and physical health. What started out as a few friends getting in the sea has now become a community of women across the world supporting and motivating each other to embrace the cold and take the plunge together.
