International Women’s Day 2021!

Women of the world want and deserve an equal future free from stigma, stereotypes and violence; a future that’s sustainable, peaceful, with equal rights and opportunities for all. 

To get us there, the world needs women at every table where decisions are being made.

Women’s full and effective participation and leadership in of all areas of life drives progress for everyone. Yet, women are still underrepresented in public life and decision-making, as revealed in the UN Secretary-General’s recent report. Women are Heads of State or Government in 22 countries, and only 24.9 per cent of national parliamentarians are women. 

At the current rate of progress, gender equality among Heads of Government will take another 130 years.

Women are also at the forefront of the battle against COVID-19, as front-line and health sector workers, as scientists, doctors and caregivers, yet they get paid 11 per cent less globally than their male counterparts. 

An analysis of COVID-19 task teams from 87 countries found only 3.5 per cent of them had gender parity.

The Singleton Old Fashioned !

Ingredients:

50 ml The Singleton of Glendullan12 YO

10 ml Simple Syrup or Honey

2 dash Angostura Bitters

Method:

Fill Mixing glass with good quality ice cubes and add all ingredients and keep stirring for 20 seconds. Strain into a chilled glass with fresh ice cubes and garnish with an orange twist.

Happy International Women's Day!

Today we celebrate and acknowledge women all around the world.

ALL women.

EVERYWHERE.

We celebrate individuality.

We celebrate diversity.

And we celebrate the millions of women who are fighting for their rights all over the globe!

But designating one day to this cause is not enough and it never will be. Creating a gender equal world demands constant awareness and actions - all day, every day. Raising your voice on this day is without meaning, if you stay silent the rest of the year and despite the many miles we have already trotted in the right direction, the road is still long ahead of us and there is still much to be done.

I've been quiet for too long and despite always having shared the values and passion for gender equality, I've failed to speak out.

But that ends now.

I am raising my voice through my poetry, speaking out against the inequality, stereotypes and bias I've met and am still meeting every day.

I might just be one person, but staying quiet is uacceptable.

We all need to speak out.

It's too early to become complacent.

There is too much left to fight for.

You cannot raise an army without raising your voice.

International Women’s Day

To celebrate this day i’m posting pictures of my favorite feminist icon: Katara from Avatar the Last Airbender. As a little girl I watched her fighting an old traditional man because he wouldn’t teach her to fight because she was a girl. She eventually got her way and became the most powerful waterbender of her generation.

She inspired me greatly. I always give her as reason for my feminist/equalist ideals. I have always fought for equality and will keep on fighting. Untill we reach that horizon.
