HUMANITY AGREES WITH HER NOW better than it did millennia past. ancient gods walk those streets untethered, blend in with the people, only show the sharpness of their teeth in dark alleys and purple-lit clubs. her own head is bare of crown, and in her hand no sceptre ━━━ traded for a leash instead, cerberus on a happy trot beside her. summer is ripe and bright, air heavy with the promise of an evening shower, but the sun is still high in the sky, apollo dragging his chariot lazily across the backsplash of blue.

and so the sudden tug is entirely unexpected. it does not quite force gravity to cast its snare around her limbs, no matter how heavy this body always seems to be, all bones and viscera and skin pulled taut over muscle. what does happen is this : cerberus runs, only to topple a stranger to the ground, paws against his chest and tail waggling as lolling tongue gives a happy lick to his face. she catches on quickly, though no amount of tugging at the leash prompts the dog to move. ❝ i’m so sorry. are you hurt ?? he is usually far more well behaved. ❞
