One of the island tufas at Mono Lake. The light appearing to come off the tufa was actually a rainbow that I wasnt able to capture for some reason even though I fired off a mess of shots. Chalk it up to one more Mono Lake mystery....

Ok, this was NOT photoshopped. Apart from a small contast adjustment this is straight from the RAW file.
While shooting during sunset at Mono Lake, this massive storm came upon us. As the weather started to turn, I wanted to get a few shots of the clouds as they boiled over the mountains. I fired off a few shots and started heading with the group back to our cars.
Imagine my surprise to see this face in the clouds! Can you see the eyes? I know, they look Photoshopped, but they arent. Creepy! That's just what I needed right before I went to bed last last.
During the course of this trip, I learned truly how valuable light is. This shot lasted less than 60 seconds before the light was too harsh

Landscape Photography: The Spray & Pray Technique
While on landscape photography workshop, we pulled over and jumped out of the car at the urging of our guide to get a shot that only lasts a few minutes while the sun is rising and only during this time of year. I was completely confused as to what I was supposed to be shooting and just starting spraying and praying. I was supposed to have gotten a layered shot of the different grasses in horizontal lines. Instead I got this, which isnt too bad as long as you dont zoom in too much to look at it. The 100-400mm lens requires a bit more skill to wield than I had at that time. Well, you learn through your mistakes.
