characters
Currently I have fourteen playable characters, but for the most part I usually post about my Warrior of Light and his merry band of adventuring friends. You can learn more about the whole cast on the character page (once that's done) but for now, here's some info about the main adventuring party under the cut!
Raginmar Steelbiter
• 48 years old (post-DT)
• RDM / SMN / MCH
• Formerly the Warrior of Light, this war veteran-turned-adventurer now spends most of his time travelling the realm(s) and inadvertently preventing apocalypses, one calamity at a time.
• Current progression: post-Dawntrail
Hyllizirn Ahldachtwyn
• 28 years old (post-DT)
• WAR / VPR
• Raginmar's younger sister; she put down her mantle of Field Commander of the Immortal Flames' Free Brigade to travel the realm alongside her brother in search of her next great adventure.
• Current progression: post-Shadowbringers
Kirika Kagutsuchi
• 26 years old (post-DT)
• WHM / AST / SAM
• A Hingan healer whose time is divided between adventuring with Hyllizirn, her partner in love and life, and providing medical assistance for the needy in the city of Ul'dah.
• Current progression: Shadowbringers
L'vazha Tia
• 43 years old (post-DT)
• SAM / NIN
• A travelling merchant-slash-treasure hunter seeking to expand his business in Eorzea and beyond; in reality he is one of the lords of Hingashi's underworld, and his true motivations are unknown.
• Current progression: Stormblood
Adricienne Brookes
• 32 years old (post-DT)
• SGE / DRG
• Formerly the Second Azure Dragoon of Ishgard, the half-Hyur, half-Elezen disinherited daughter of House Dzemael laid down her lance to take up the mantle of Postmaster instead, delivering missives and connecting people across the realm.
• Current progression: Stormblood
Canso Lechanteur
• Age unknown (post-DT)
• BRD / DNC / RPR
• After escaping Imperial conscription and fleeing to Eorzea for asylum, he joins the Order of the Twin Adder as part of Captain Sanson Smythe's bardic unit, acting as the unit's historian and scout.
• Current progression: post-Stormblood
Marzanna Branmirasch
• 40 years old (post-DT)
• ALC / MNK / BLU
• Seeking the truth behind her younger brother's death, she travels the world looking for a reason to live and a way to atone for her past as a scientist and engineer in the Imperial Legion.
• Current progression: Heavensward
Sasariku Nonoriku
• 22 years old (post-DT)
• PLD
• All alone after grieving first the death of his father figure and later that of his closest friend, he leaves behind all that he's ever known to find a new purpose in life.
• Current progression: post-ARR
Baelsar's Wall was an eyesore, that much nearly every person in Gridania could agree on. It was a symbol of the Black Wolf's arrogance, an ugly reminder of his ambitions of conquering Eorzea. It stood stark and bleak across the landscape, marking the border between the Black Shroud and Gyr Abania and further deepening the divide between the two formerly-warring nations. It was a monument to a great many number of things; but for Sasariku, it would always be a reminder of the friend he failed to save—the one who used to stand where he stood now, gazing longingly eastwards home.
Man and chocobo alike gazed at that which was once Yyasulani; now ensconced in a crackling dome of energy, with lightning flashing intermittently within, the distant sight of it marred the view of the plains of Shaaloani considerably. It was a beacon of danger and things unknown, and it would be prudent to rest before attempting to breach it. Raginmar would not be travelling through unfamiliar lands, not after his travels with Wuk Lamat and the Scions, but not even he dared to traverse that fusion of two worlds, so riddled by catastrophe, without care.
for those who want to know the url of the biphobe, it's @/nights-at-crystarium
after his blantant biphobia he has chosen to ignore people who have called him out and also has the audacity to act as a victim as if he is not the one who is outright hostile to bi folks. he also thinks if he grows big enough, his biphobia will be more acceptable.
so. supporting gay ships isnt the problem here. i do have many many gay ships as well, and i would never ever put down my fellow queers. Anyone who goes to my blog can see this. i have spelled the problem out for this person, that being "if you ship emet with a woman you're homophobic" and "all threatre queen flamboyant men are gay and cannot be bi" parts are the problem. This person has deleted a comment someone asking "does this include bi people as well". Frankly, they have blocked everyone regardless of how polite they were with them, and they refuse to answer dms about this situation. they're refusing to engage with a constructive communication with fellow queer emet fans which they have hurt.
that anon ask they have said "i agree with everything you said" also had a quite bit of racism about japanese folks and the op's refusal to engage with me as a queer brown person from west asia speaks volumes.
it is especially disappointing to see this from an artist who used to be my mutual, whose work i have admired and supported for so long, whom i shared headcanons over raha. it really hurts.
It also is disappointing that they're doubling down and accusing people who are calling them out as "y'all are homophobes."
i had to close this tab 5 times bc my relatives walked into my room. i face homophobia in a way that is actually unsafe for me. i will not accept such an accusation from someone who has said "if you ship emet with a woman you're homophobic" especially since this person is incapable of accepting queerness apart from their very narrow understanding of queerness (if flamboyant can only be gay and nothing else) and their weird perception of queer cultures besides western imperial one (that weird comment about japanese).
Rumours whispered of an elixir that could tantalise the senses and bring someone to paroxysms of divine joy with only a single drop on their tongue, so potent and sought after that a single vial could command millions of koban. Nobody knew from whom nor whence the elixir originated; only that after the visions of heavenly pleasure faded, the drinker is left with a thirst that could only be quenched by more and more of the elixir, increasing with every swallow until it drove them to madness. While liable to empty the coffers of even the richest of hedonists, it was not necessarily difficult to obtain; in fact, the elixir could easily be purchased in the markets of Kogane Dori should one possess the requisite koban, its unassuming vials hiding in plain sight amidst other medicines and poisons of the mundane kind.
I still need to come up with captions for three more FFXIV vanilla gpose challenge photos before 2nd June ends in PST but also my one hope for 8.0 is for my WoL to stop going through things that make him grow exponentially more powerful
Despite what his single-minded zeal for the bardic arts might suggest, Captain Smyth was not blind to the festering prejudice and discrimination that had sunk its claws deep into the hearts of Gridanians—not just in its citizens, but also in those who had sworn to protect all who called Gridania home. The Adders and Wood Wailers alike turned a blind eye to these oathbreakers; they could not pursue justice for the downtrodden and ostracised many—Moonkeepers and Duskwights and outsiders all—without alienating their own, and yet, to Canso's grim amusement, they also turned an equally blind eye to any who would hunt down those who preyed upon Gridania's outcasts. After all, Captain Smyth had said with a meaningful glance, death had a great many number of ways of befalling someone should they so carelessly choose to lurk in the dark.
While the lovely waves that curled around her shoulders and side-swept bangs were the work of the remarkably talented yet eccentric aesthetician Jandelaine, the pastel purple colour of her hair was in fact natural; he had simply enhanced them a little. By dyeing the ends several shades darker in order to create a pleasing contrast, it made her hair even more reminiscent of the paulownia flowers that she had been named for.
"Look at you!" L'vazha had crowed. "The Rising Star of Ul'dah, the shining champion of the Free Brigades!" It was a ridiculous title, born from that one Mythril Eye article that had gushingly lauded her achievements in battle during her early days in the Immortal Flames, but she had to admit the illustration that accompanied the silly article was very impressive. With her axe held aloft as she prepared to rain death on some poor beast or other, she made for a rather striking figure. Years later, once Kirika had given in to her father's beseeching letters and deigned to accept his gift of an estate in the Goblet (and their party had gleefully outfitted it to serve as their headquarters), a copy of that illustration, yellowed and carefully torn out from its page, was the first thing to go up on its walls.
Mayhaps there existed a world where her mother never fled from her ancestral home and remained a proud, loyal daughter of House Dzemael—or its mirror equivalent—to the end of her days. Adricienne couldn't imagine a world where her mother had never fallen in love with her father, but stranger things have happened. Would the her of that world be born to her mother still? She imagined a portrait of herself, painted in that style so favoured by the Ishgardian high nobles, and it was an image so foreign and displeasing that she banished it from her mind at once.
There are many fun reasons to have a character avoid using guns, but I think "this otherwise-awesome fighter is a really terrible shot" is an underappreciated one. Yes, they're available in my setting and would work against my enemies. No, I don't have a moral code against them or a power that makes them redundant. I just can't aim for shit!
In general IMO the more badass and hypercompetent a character is, the more they're enriched by having one skill they're just absolutely hopeless at. Terrible shot, terrible liar, terrible dancer, no poker face, no sense of direction, can't drive, can't swim, can't cook, can't read, always broke, always late, always falls for a certain trick...
Good friend of mine got screwed over by some chargeback BS that's put his bank account in the negatives. He and his partner need at least 500 USD to make rent and could really use the help!
I'm just saying, if you're going to worldbuild magic being a "raw, primal force, akin to and interweaving with nature itself" you gotta explain to me why animals don't use it
I know the normal answer is "they just aren't smart enough for it" but idk I've seen enough media where a character uses a spell in a moment of brain-off panic ilI feel like animals could probably stumble into a spell or two like, accidentally
Thinking about how the Scions openly discussed their plans liberate Doma from the clutches of the Garlean Empire right in front of Gyodo, con-Namazu and known Imperial informant who's already tried to sell them out to the Imperials once before (twice if you include Gosetsu) and I just
Before you head to the Ruby Sea with Soroban, you can still head into the Ruby Bazaar's office to speak with several characters including Gyodo, whose dialogue is him asking how long he's going to be kept in the offices since he's given his full cooperation. What exactly happens to him while you're on your way to Othard, we have no idea. Maybe Lyse's struck the fear of the kami into him with the asskicking she gave him after the aforementioned treachery, or maybe Hancock threatened to bring down the might of the East Aldernard Trading Company on his head if he squealed to the Imperials, but all of that's speculation. I just think it would've been nice if the story didn't gloss over Gyodo's knowledge of the Scions' plans (given they were discussing them right in front of him) and the possibility of him going to the Imperials with that information and at least acknowledged how they were going to deal with him, instead of leaving it to the player to speculate.
