It's been a bit, but I just wanted ya'll to know Baron is happy, healthy, and a pain in the butt as usual. Also. He turns 8 this year?? I've had him since he was a baby, still covered in green, so it's a little shocking to think it's really been 8 years. Here's hoping he lives another 20+ years!

7 years later and this is still how baron prefers to spend his time- tucked under a blanket to cuddle.

Ignore how horrifyingly dirty his pen is, I had just cleaned it that morning and he proceeded to toss his litter box all over the place.

But behold. Bun

So. We adopted a rabbit. Which is something I've wanted to do for a long time. But with connor going to be continuing to work from home it finally became possible. So we got the pen all set up. And he has moved in and is doing really well. Hes best friends with the cat (he lived with 2 cats full time before we adopted him so hes not afraid of them), but is terrified of the dogs.

Well today I had him finally meet baron. Barons screams were scaring him, so i hoped that seeing what was making the noise might help. Baron didn't go into instakill mode, so that was good. Bun ran up and leaned up to check baron out which scared the ever loving daylights out of him. So baron flew off. Which scared the rabbit to the point he hid under the bed. They recovered after a good 15 minutes. But needless to say baron didnt expect the ball of fluff to move, and the bun didnt expect the pepper on my shoulder to move.

There’s nothing like the joy of a bird who has just realized the new toy in his cage, is stuffed with nutriberries.

My mom talked me out of a sedan and into an SUV by saying "emily how will you fit a bird cage in that".

You got me there mom. You got me there.

Alright quick question on cages. The conure we may be bringing home is a black capped conure. Which is fairly small. What do you guys consider appropriate for bar spacing? I'm used to going 1/2-3/4 inch for birds in that range but wanted an outside opinion. The cage I'm using for quarantine is 18x18x57 with 3/4 inch spacing. My hope is to just buy a duplicate of barons cage after quarantine is over which is 30x22x63 with 3/4 spacing. Duchess was never able to stick her head through 3/4 spacing, but I dont think she really tried in the same way a conure might. Thoughts?

Is it just me or are bird cages large enough to satisfy me just sold out or missing right now? Even the play gyms on wheels seem to be more or less sold out. I am not pleased by this. I'm trying to get a duplicate of barons cage and am struggling to find it. I found a similar one on wayfair under a different name but this is getting annoying.

So theres a tiny chance in the next month or two we may end up with a second conure. We have a lot of schedule stuff we have to do to get things to where we have the appropriate time. Get current animal responsibilities nailed down a bit more. spice up the bird room. Figure out what we would be doing for quarantine procedure. Procure the appropriate sized cage. Etc etc. Which by the time we get all of that done this particular chance to bring home another bird will likely have passed. But we refuse to do the whole "bring home bird figure it out later" method. And most importantly we have to make sure we truly have enough time for all of our current animals which is why we are going to spend a month strictly feeling things out and seeing how much time we can actually spend with them.

I'm pretty sure baron just shreds half his food and doesnt eat it.
