Swapping flies, wearing too big waders, having the time of my life.
Whispering sweet nothings to Rainbow Trout under rainbow skies.
That was one hell of a good time. Until next year, Descend!
Descend On Bend 2017: 300+ overland vehicles, 4 huge bonfires, 3 boot stompin bands. One super concentrated dose of #vanlife.
It was snowing & I couldn't feel my fingers but shoodang I was happy.
Vanlife + Cascade Lakes = 10/10 would do again
If you put a Thomas Kinkade painting and a pumpkin spice latte in a blender, you get this picture.
Twilight fishing for the win.
Everything is here // This is everything
You know those moments you want to live in forever? This was one of them. Pulling native Brookies out of my dream stream left & right, scampering over granite boulders, sneaking up on perfect pool after perfect pool... it was my favorite day of fishing I've ever had.
I try to go mountain biking once every 5 years just to see if I still hate it. So when I got the seemingly innocuous text, "hey wanna go mtn biking?", I realized with trepidation it was that time again. I walked into the garage and stood in front of the wall of Rubbermaid tubs. There it was. A red tub, covered in stickers with the word "Bike" Sharpied on the side. As I popped the lid off, a wave of lycra, race numbers, energy shots and a mishmash of eggbeater pedals flew at me. Apparently I had packed that bin to the max when I gave up on racing bikes years ago. I tossed on some bibs, contemplating if that's even a thing that mountain bikers wear, while simultaneously acknowledging that what I'm wearing is probably not what is going to be embarrassing about this situation. I glanced at my shoes and pedals & thought about giving them a go when I pulled out my pedal wrench & saw that it was completely mangled. (Your guess is as good as mine.) Flat pedals & sneakers it was... and probably for the best. I put air in the tires & tossed my bike in the car & we were off. As I hopped on at the trailhead, a feeling of nostalgia & hopefulness washed over me but was quickly replaced by panic as i realized I was grabbing handfuls of brake with no actual braking. No brakes? How exciting. A little finagling & we were back in business. With warm sun on my shoulders, I settled into a distantly familiar rhythm of pedaling up hills & swooping back down them. Suffice to say, the bike box will stay unpacked this summer. I might even have to get back into cyclocross this fall, but that's a lot of commitment. We'll just take it one ride at a time...
Is metalsmith Monday a thing? Someday I'm gonna know what I'm doing. 😉 For now it's just fun to put on good tunes & fire up the torch. 🔥
Me + Cloey Underfoot + a cabin in the woods... Livin that dream life this week.
Powder days. Cloey Underfoot. Taylor guitars. These are a few of my favorite things. Not a bad little Monday.
Idaho, you're pretty.
Montana, I like you.
