      as she holds to one hand,  the other raises to brush a smudge of blood from his cheek.  he never did say that beron had died naturally. but he had raised his hand to the high lady of autumn one time too many and now reigned, and breathed, no more. there is a breath as he watches her, her words stirring within him the thing he’d been holding close from the start. a plan. mad perhaps, never done before he knew.  but while still lightly holding her hand he moves slowly – dropping to a knee as he draws with his other hand a ruby ring, the stone resting shade wise somewhere between the flaming red trees of his court – and the sunset pink of hers.   ‘   high lady sancia – will you marry me? ‘  he does not wish to merely align his court with hers, but himself. 

         marriage has never        been an important topic for her  .  sure  ,  in her many years she as courted before  ,  but the secret of her ancestry has always forced her to keep others at arm's length  .  sancia had never considered it before now  ,  and so she finds herself needing a moment to contemplate it  .  she won’t marry for power  ,  would refuse if she thought eris simply required her court’s alliance to secure his placement on his father’s former throne  .  but the heat behind his eyes tells her that it’s more than that  ,  that this question has come from deep within him  .  the ring he offers tells her that this decision wasn’t made hastily  ,  he’d come to her mountain with this in mind  .  maybe it’s not love  ,  or it is and she doesn’t know it yet  ,  but it’s far beyond anything she’s had before  ,  felt before  .  “  yes  ,  ”  the word escapes her lips in a breath  .  “  yes  ,  i will marry you  —  but only if you swear to stay at my side through all we still have to face  .  ”
