Okay, general announcement for everyone, but I'm especially tagging people I have threads with.

So, I've been thinking about it on and off for a while now, and with everything that's been going on lately, I'm deciding that I'm going to put Duffy on hiatus for a while. Things are trying to get sorted out personal-wise and I'm usually focused on Indy a lot more lately.

Maybe I'll get a muse back for him in a bit. Right now, he just isn't cooperating and I don't want to give you guys bad quality stuff as I try to keep up. I'm still planing on checking in occasionally, but for the most part  I'll be putting things to reply to in drafts for now so I will have it when Duffy decides to cooperate. 

I'm sorry, guys. I feel kind of crappy for doing it, but for right now, it's just for the best bet for me to worry about only one character while things are getting sorted. But everyone can always reach me on Indy or on aim if you got that. Most of you guys follow me on that account anyway, so it's not like you won't see me.

Thanks for listening guys. You know I really appreciate everything.

He shook his head, waving him off. “It’s fine. Might be a bit better to get this off my chest, no how.” He said with a small sigh as he straightened up his coat. “But you’re right, drinks do sound better than wallowing away on useless things. C’mon.”

He gestured Duffy with him towards the door and finally stepped out, walking off towards the car and getting into the passenger’s seat. With a smile he turned to the other man. “Question is y’ready to show me the part of Boston I ain’t ever seen?”

Duffy chuckled in response as they returned to his car. "Well, I know one or two good places in Southie you might like. Good drinks and pretty good company." He checked traffic before pulling out onto the street. "There's probably a lot of Boston you haven't seen yet, though, huh?"

As they walked to the eastern side of their little community where the crops were grown, Duffy started to get lost in his thoughts. Murder and defense. Life and death. There was no real way to tell which was which anymore, and it was disturbing. Maybe they could get back some form of structure that was shaken by this incident. 

The pair stopped at the edge of fields, he took a moment to survey the situation. "You think that's him?" he asked Carl, pointing to two figures talking together about a hundred yards away.

Beth smiled. “Well we do have magazines and crossword puzzle books to pass your time but if I were you I would sleep. The pain medicine we’re about to give you might help with that.” She nodded, “See you then.” She then changed his IV bag before leaving.

Duffy dropped his head back onto his pillow again. He really did appreciate Beth's help. She was a good person. Must have been something to do with being not from Boston. Blinking up at the ceiling, his mind started to wander. Someone better be hunting down whoever shot him because he was not looking forward to the rehab period. Thankfully enough, the pain meds kicked in quickly and he passed out soon after it started to circulate through his system.

Stepping out from the bathroom after he got changed he met Duffy’s eyes and gave a slight shrug. “Big change, for me mostly.” He sighed heavily as he pulled on his jacket. “But I’m not sure if they miss me. Maybe my boy but…” He closed his eyes briefly and looked down. “…I’m divorced.” Forcing a smile he met Duffy’s gaze again and grabbed his keys. “It’s fine though, ain’t much of a story.”

He frowned slightly at the admittedly expected news. Just from the way Rick  had talked about his life in Georgia and why he was transfer, made him suspect. Damn detective instincts. Though it was probably easier to just get it out in the open now. 

"I'm sorry. That's just shit. I didn't mean to drag it out of you. You don't have to say anymore man." He nodded his head to the door. "We'll get some drinks instead. You ready?" he asked.

Eyes swept the street and buildings as he crossed into the apartment building. He kind of wished his friend could do better, but sometimes you just couldn't do much at a time with a situation. And it just sucked. 

Duffy climbed the last few stairs to Mira's floor . Knocking - or rather kicking at -on the appropriate door, he announced himself with a simple "Delivery!"

Beth smiled him and shook her head. “I’m far from it, just a woman  that deals with those two… guess dealing with them is pretty saintly.” She joked with a laugh. She then nodded. “Alright well I’ll see you tomorrow morning to get you home. Anything I can get you before I go?”

"It is. At least in my experience. Don't let yourself think otherwise." Duffy gave her a smile back before glancing around himself. "A better way to pass the night?" he joked.  "No. I don't think so. But thank you, though. I'll expect you to spring me early tomorrow then."

Beth smiled as she looked at him, “Hey I spend all of my time waiting hand and foot on grouchy old 70 year old men I think you will be just fine.” She then smiled. “They are going to say thank you for being such a good person if they still want someone to clean up them and their place.”

Duffy smirked and  let his head fall back against his pillow. Guess he probably was a better option, then. He laughed even more at her response concerning the boys. "You're a saint, you know, Beth." The detective sighed and looked down at his leg. "Should be interesting," he said, looking back up at her with a smile. "Gotta get back to work soon, huh?"

Duffy looked over at her with surprise. Well, not really surprise in the fact that she would be willing to do that. But more of the fact that she would be willing to that for him. Beth had two other people to look after the majority of the time, who got hurt a hell of a lot more more than he did. “No! I don’t think I would be uncomfortable with that. I’d honestly rather have someone I know keeping an eye on me if I have to. That’s just…really kind of you.”

Beth gave him a sweet smile. “Oh trust me it is no problem at all. I deal with those two nut cases every day this will be like a little vacation for me.” She jokingly told him. “I will have to stay over the first two or three depending on your comfort level, that okay?”

He let out  sarcastic laugh. Yeah, that sounded about right. He'd seen the amount of trouble the MacManus brothers could get into. "That's okay with me. I could work with it. I'm gonna apologize in advance for being an ass though." He pause. "What are the boys gonna say?"

Fastening his seat belt and getting himself sorted, Duffy took a moment to check traffic before pulling out on to the road. He knew a decent Chinese place that was not very far out of the way. And he may or may not be getting a decent spread.

Conflict of Interest - Murphy & Duffy

Shuffling about his desk in the squad room, Duffy tried to get all the necessary paperwork together as well as make room for the new individual that was to be joining him -and to a certain extent his other two partners. The department liked to rotate who was getting a junior officer or someone interested in becoming a cop for a shadow. It was Duffy's turn this time around. But then again, his turn came more often than not. He hoped that said something about how decent of a cop he was. 

He was curious as to what this individual would be like. All he really was privy to was that his name was Murphy MacManus and he would be arriving sometime this morning. There were one or two interesting cases that they were handling at the moment, so at least the kid wouldn't be bored. Even though he knew mentoring someone came with the boring aspects of the job - paperwork, regulations and waiting for results - he did like that he could give someone a well-rounded experience when they were deciding if they were going to actually become a cop or not. 

Duffy reclaimed his seat at his desk, intending on finishing up with the annoying paperwork that came with this part of the job. There was always paperwork, but this was more to cover everyone's ass in the event something happened. Something was always bound to happen in Boston, but in the detective's experience you never knew what it was.
