๐ท๐ฐ Beltane ๐ท๐ฐ
๐ท Also known as May Day
๐ทย Art By: Jacqueline De Leon on Instagram
________________________________________________________________
๐ฐ When Is Beltane?
๐ท Northern Hemisphere:
30April - 1 May
It can be celebrated either day or is traditionally celebrated from the night of 30 April until the day of 1 May
๐ท Southern Hemisphere:
31 October - 1 November
________________________________________________________________
๐ฐ What Is Beltane?
๐ทย Beltane is celebrated because we are now at the peak of spring; the sun god has now taken over. For many of us, summer is arriving, or is coming very soon. Itโs super joyous, happy, exciting day that honours life. The earth is buzzing and all of the earthโs energies are thriving: fertility, sexuality, passion, energy and new life are at their peak of stimulation at this time. Fertility is the main theme for Beltane. The Triple Goddess in her maiden form and the Horned God are finally united and they are bringing new life on the earth. Itโs the time of the year when we need to grant luck to the summer months and the growth that is coming. It is one of the solar festivals, the other being Samhain. Beltane represents birth, while Samhain represents death, which is why Beltane is seen as the most important celebration by some people.
________________________________________________________________
๐ฐ How To Celebrate:
๐ทย Beltane celebrations focus on fertility, abundance and all of the amazing gifts that the earth gives us at this time.
________________________________________________________________
๐ฐ Activities:
๐ทย Create amulets made from rose quartz and give them to loved ones, friends and family. This is a gift that can help with positivity and passion and they can help to lower anxiety too. For specific loved ones this can help with the passion and romance between the two of you and it can also calm nerves!
๐ทย Flowers and greenery are a huge part of Beltane.
๐ทย Create flower crowns.
๐ทย Create daisy chains.
๐ทย Wear flowers on your body.
๐ทย Make a green man mask from leaves.
๐ทย Beltane is a time of love, so if you have a loved one that you would like to make a commitment to, this is an excellent time for marriage, handfasting and promise rituals. You may want to plan your ceremony for Beltane.
๐ทย Dance round a maypole; this is a pole that is typically made from wood or metal and that has ribbons tied to a wreath around it. The maypole, is a phallic symbol of the male, the wreath around it and the ribbons coming off it, the vagina. We are celebrating fertility and the marriage of the two of them around this time! You can do a traditional maypole dance around this pole holding the ribbons. Look out for nearby maypole festivities - there are probably more than you think; if not you can create one yourself with your loved ones or your coven.
๐ทย Also if you have plans to conceive, now is a great and lucky time!
๐ทย Another way to celebrate love is just to go for a walk- you could search for a hawthorn tree, make a wish , have a picnic and collect some wild flowers. Share this experience with a friend or loved one or enjoy a solitary walk.
๐ทย Spells to cast at this time are love spells and vitality, protection, romance and purification spells. Casting your circles with oats around this time of year is also a good idea! They are a traditional Beltane grain for good luck.
๐ทย Light a Beltane fire- have a Beltane fire ritual with your friends and family, serve food and have an outside bonfire. Fires are traditionally to honor our sun gods, and celebrate the warmth and the sun god taking over the cold.
________________________________________________________________
๐ฐ Altar Ideas
๐ทย Decorate it with seasonal spring flowers.
๐ทย Drape it with green cloth and ribbons to represent the green earth as it is now here!
๐ทย Add birch and hawthorn branches, burnt in your cauldron.
๐ทย Light red, pink and green candles.
๐ทย Red and pink represent passion, love and fertility, which suit the theme of Beltane.
________________________________________________________________
๐ฐ Food And Drink
๐ทย Oats in all forms; oat cookies, oatmeal, oat bread
๐ทย Dairy, cheeses and milks or dairy-free alternatives
๐ทย Also spicy food, to represent the element of fire and the sun
๐ทย May Day wine
๐ทย Vanilla-flavoured foods
๐ทย Fairy Cakes
๐ทย Ice Cream
๐ทย Sweet breads
๐ทย Elderflower and other flowery-flavoured cordials
________________________________________________________________
๐ฐ Crystals
๐ทย Relevant crystals to carry around with you this time of the year and to meditate with, use in divination and spell work, place at your altar and, around Beltane, give as gifts to loved ones and partners, are:
๐ทย Rose Quartz
๐ทย Emerald
๐ทย Sunstone
๐ทย Pink Tourmaline
๐ทย Beryl
๐ทย Pink angel aura quartz
________________________________________________________________
๐ฐ Herbs And Flowers
๐ทย Any herbs and flowers that are blooming now where you live are perfect or Beltane. Try to get the most vibrant and powerful blossoming herbs to work with at this time of the year.
๐ทย Lilac
๐ทย Thistle
๐ทย Flaxseed
๐ทย Paprika
๐ทย Hawthorn
๐ทย Rowan
๐ทย Daffodil
๐ทย Honeysuckle
________________________________________________________________
๐ฐ Incense
๐ทย Good incense to use during casting circles, burning at your altar around Beltane time and for cleansing and consecrating, as well as for magickal workings, are:
๐ทย Peach
๐ทย Rose
๐ทย Vanilla
๐ทย Jasmine

In case you werenโt aware- this is what snapdragon flowers look like when they die!
When the flowerโs seed pod dies, the flowerโs head resembles a miniature human skull. Ancient cultures once thought Snapdragon Flowers held supernatural powers, and it was considered good luck to carry one around with you. Another myth is that the Snapdragon Flowers give lifelong beauty and youthfulness to any woman who consumes them. And no I have not eaten one snapdragon head. I promise๐

Bring Nature Inside: Part 1
Last Spring I delved into gardening more than I ever had before. I planted all kinds of flowers, trees, herbs, shrubs, and more! It was fantastical to dig in the dirt and care for these plants, watching them bloom and grow and stretch toward the sun.
Then winter came and one by one many of my plants began to whiter or stop giving off blooms. This is obviously upsetting but also a reminder to contemplate the nature of life and death and everything in-between.ย
However, there is a simple way to help bring that joy of plants and growing into the home through houseplants! Below I have provided some house plants that I personally care for as well as both mundane and magical properties of the plant.ย ย
๐ Devilโs Ivy (Pothos)๐
Devilโs Ivy is one of the easiest plants to care for in the home.
Mundane Properties (Devilโs Ivy):
Only water the plant every two weeks (over-watering is the most common way to kill a devilโs ivy and under-watering rarely harms the plant).
The plant is toxic to both you and pets. So if you have any familiars lurking about that like to munch on things keep it out of reach!
The plant is easy to propagate and after a while you can have hundreds of them around your home.
If your plant looses a leaf it will never grow back on that part of the stem.
Pothos is fairly slow growing but will live for decades if properly taken care of.
Magical Properties (Devilโs Ivy):
Save stems you trim off to be used in binding or banishment spells.
Like most ivy, growth this plant around the walls or floors of your home can protect it.
Can be used in witch jars as a form of poison magic.
๐ Spider Plant๐
Mundane Properties (Spider Plant):
A spider plant is a great addition to every home!
Although all plants will remove toxins from the air, Spider Plants are one of the most effective house plants and achieving this goal.
Over-watering is the leading cause of death for plants at home.
The plant, when happy, sends off shoots that produce babies which can easily be snipped off and potted to create more plants.
This plant is non-toxic and is safe around familiars and people!
They prefer a bright North or East facing window.
Magical Properties (Spider Plant):
Spider Plants can be used in all kinds or protection magic.
The pups can be cut off and placed in a spell jar to filter out bad spiritual energy.
Long stems and leaves of the plant can be tied into a witchโs ladder for protection.
Placed on your altar the plant can help equalizes the energy of your altar and tools placed upon it.ย
๐ String of Pearls๐
Mundane Properties (String of Pearls):
The String of Pearls can be a difficult plant to get right, however, once you do you will be happy with the beauty it can bring into your home.
This plant requires a fairly consistent temperature (room temperature or a bit warmer is perfect for this girl).
Make sure to place this plant away from any breezes (windows, fans, and vents can cause this plant to stop growing and possibly die).
Only water this plant when the soil is completely dry, take care to ensure the pot you have it in has good drainage.
You may need to work carefully with the String of Pearls to unravel itโs many creeping tendrils and prevent it from looking a mess.
It may take a few tries but the String of Pearls is a fairly easy plant to propagate and give to friends.
Fairly fast growing in the right conditions.ย
Needs very bright light.
Slightly toxic when consumed, some people are also receptive to the juice and sap of the plant.
Magical Properties (String of Pearls):
The fairly fast growing tendrils can be snipped (this does not hurt the plant) and be used in love charms and love magic.
Growing in the home, the plant promotes positive energyย and happiness.
Pearls which fall from the plant can be used in divination bags once dried.
When the plant flowers the energy surrounding is perfect to use in all magics wishing to draw something to you.
(Disclaimer: This is by no means a comprehensive guide to each of these plants. Doing research on any plant before attempting to grow it yourself is highly advised. The magical properties of these plants are my own interpretations and you may find different or alternative uses for them.)
It sounds crazy but I got a wack creative idea and if anybody has ever done this please know that I love you.
But turning a fish tank into an altar for more water based deities or whatever it is that you worship and work with.
Dried dandelion flowers ๐ป I will be using them to make dandelion infused oil and a salve, useful for aching muscles/joints and dry skin.
finally redecorated my altar to honor Aphrodite :)

chthonic worship tip
In my experience, chthonic (underworld) gods really appreciate hearingย โthank you.โ (This includes Hades and Persephone as well as Hecate, Hermes in his psychopomp aspect, Hypnos, Thanatos, Morpheus, and others.) They all do incredibly dirty, difficult, and vitally important jobs and rarely get recognition for it.
Things you can thank them for:
Sheltering, protecting, and taking care of the dead
Treating everyone fairly, meting out divine justice to people who escaped it in life
Allowing us to extract precious metals and material resources from the earth (I usually pair this with a commitment to do what I can to be a responsible steward of the earth, and follow the principle of xenia rather than hoarding wealth)
Maintaining the boundaries between this world and the next, and allowing people to pass through when appropriate
Making new growth possible by clearing away that which is no longer useful (this can be both literal and metaphorical)
Guiding and looking after people who are going through grief, depression, or โdark nights of the soul,โ enabling personal rebirth and transformation
Protecting and nourishing the roots of plants, making all plant life and agriculture possible
Things that come from or are sheltered in their world include: sleep, dreams, precious metals, plant life, reincarnated or newly incarnated souls, magic, purpose and destiny โ and according to interpretation, vaccination, EMDR, anesthesia, X-rays and MRIs, mass social movements, psychology, shadow work**
Also, please do something nice for Charon. Iโve long thought of him as the patron of customer service workers who are frequently yelled at.
*sources: Greek Religion by Walter Burkert, Ancient Greek Cults by Jennifer Larson, The Greek Way of Death by Robert Garland โ these three books are my go-toโs for info about the roles the chthonic gods and the underworld played in ancient Greek religion and culture. Add to this the underworld as metaphor in Jungian psychology and archetypes (Iโm less well read in this area, but see also The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell)
**I once read a great series of essays on the rivers of the Underworld (which I can not find right now) that posited the principle of vaccination comes from the Styx. According to myth, Achilles was dipped in the river as a baby and this protected his body from injury โ just as exposure to a dead pathogen grants our bodies protection from a live version of that same pathogen. Along these lines, things like anesthesia and EMDR would come from the Lethe and/or the Acheron, psychology and self-reflection from the Mnemosyne, and so on. And modern astrology understands Pluto (Hades) as a god of invisible forms of power, which makes him also the ruler of things like X-rays and MRIs, nuclear energy, mass movements, and lots of other thingsโฆ
Historically Sacred Items/Offerings to each of the Ouranic Theoi! I made this for my Hellenic polytheism group on discord, so I thought Iโd share this information with all of you as well.
All information has been taken from theoi.com as well as various historical books on the gods, and I have decided to make this powerpoint so that other people donโt have to sift through all the pdfs and books themselves.

๐ฟMagical herbal salt๐
Hi!๐น Today I want to share here one of my magic salt recipes!๐ฎ๐
First at all I took some fresh herbs from my little balcony garden and rock salt.๐ฑ
Salt is a crystalline mineral made of two elements, sodium (Na) and chlorine (Cl).Salt magical properties are cleansing, purification, protection.
I used Parsley, Lavender, Basil and Marjoram.
Herbs magical properties are:
Parsley - increase strength, vitality and passion.Parsley is also supposed to protect food from contamination.๐ฟ
Basil - helps steady the mind, brings happiness, love, peace, and money and protects against insanity.๐ฟ
Marjoram - cleansing, purification, and dispelling negativity.๐ฟ
Lavender -love, healing, purification, sleep and beauty.๐ฟ
So that all herbs make my salt more magical and powerful!๐๐ฎ
I used mortar and pestle to mix that all.๐ฟAfter that I added my salt into glass jar and I left in on my altar๐ฎ.
I will add my herbal salt to everything that I cook.
Also I will use it for my protection spells and rituals.๐ฎ

Everyday Witchuals to do with/for a cat
Bonding to little fluffs can be very grounding and meditative. Here are some of my favorite little things to do for my favorite little things!
With a highly vibrational crystal (selenite, blue kyanite, blue celestite) in your hand, pet your cat. When they begin to purr, visualize the flow of energy between the rumble of your kitty and the rumble of the mineral.
Leave an offering of catnip on your patio for neighborhood cats.
Create a small (not sharp!) crystal grid on a perch area where kitty lays often.
Make quartz gem elixirs or moonwater to add to kittyโs water dish, or set a similar water dish out for neighborhood cats.
Drink your coffee/eat your breakfast at the same time as your cat eats. Be present as you commune together, accepting nourishment from the earth simultaneously.
Let your cat pick a tarot card (or a few!) to read for yourself.
Draw or stitch a sigil onto their collar for protection.
Charge their dry food in a clear jar by setting it on a windowsill under a full moon or setting citrine crystals on top of the lid for 12 hours. Say a blessing when pouring it into their dish.
Enjoy ๐ฎ๐ฑ๐
Me, walking into a spiritual shop: โrOcKs??โ
Shop owner: โYes, we sell crystalsโ
Me, excitedly: โROCKS?!!โ
