Heard about this recently and made a little art about it. "The forty" is a local area where unhoused people have camped, some of them continuously, for a decade. This is a town with so little available housing, I recently had over 40 people respond to a single sublet listing, and all of them were both employed full-time and presently unhoused. So, in response to people necessarily being pushed to find a place to camp, the city has recently started hiring contractors and pd to forcibly remove our neighbors and destroy the few things they own. So much worse is happening outside our very liberal little town, but this being a small town, these are people whose names we know, who we all see every day. If the goal is beautification, seems like an opportunity for the city to commission an art village for the unhoused rather than go this stinky mainstream route. Art free to use if you love your neighbors 💙
