Given her mother’s warnings, Rapunzel had been expecting the stranger to lunge at her and immediately start chopping off her hair. Instead, the girl introduced herself, calmly answering her question.

As the blonde listened to her, her tense posture slowly relaxed. Her fear remained, rooted at the base of her stomach, but it wasn’t was she primarily feeling anymore.

“O-Oh, no, you’re not intruding.” Rapunzel said quickly. “It’s just…well… I wasn’t expecting anyone.” She laughed nervously. “I’m Rapunzel.”

“I can’t imagine you expect many people to this hideaway, it looks amazing, I’d probably want to keep it to myself too.” Aqua walked further in and looked around at the little grotto.

 “Do you live alone out here?”

Amethyst shrugged. 

“Fair enough, I suppose. Where I come from, innate magic is almost entirely unheard of, let alone summoning…. hey, what’s a Heartless? And why do I get the feeling your definition of Nobody isn’t simply an insult to people you don’t like?” She asked, now curious. Of course, the promise of food was something Amethyst couldn’t resist.

“I’ll take your word for it, about the ice cream, that is. I also don’t need too much when it comes to a place to live, if it helps. I grew up on the streets, after all…. used to living under cardboard boxes and the like.” She admitted, sighing at the end. And then, it clicked, about the name.

“I see.. it makes sense. What other types of people live here, while we’re on the subject?”

“You...don’t know? They’re manifestations of the darkness found in people’s hearts; they can look like a variety of creatures but usually have something off about them. Heartless are what happens when they well...essentially a person is consumed by their own darkness.” Aqua sighed thinking about the whole thing, that the darkness had made it through into the worlds after everything she and her friends had done; only delayed the inevitable battle.

The master kept on walking, “They may have been present before you fell through to here. As for Nobodies, well, they’re what’s left behind when a heartless is made, some look like normal people. Others are twisted things that are too inhumane in some way.” Not to mention they were essentially neutral until given direction by one of the stronger willed Nobodies. Really they were just tools. 

Troding along Aqua sighed a bit thinking over the things she’d had to learn about them as well when coming back to the town. “You won’t have to do that here, the people are really accomidating since they have been in the same kind of situation when they arrive. Mostly you’ll find people who’ve made themselves a home to replace the ones they’ve lost.” Finally they’d begin coming up to the ice cream shop ran by the triplets.

Rapunzel stared at the stranger who entered the glade. She had just finished climbing down her tower and was ready to set off into the woods, when the vines that led outside parted to reveal a blue-haired woman.

The blonde was so caught by surprise that she just stood where she was, rooted to the spot. Her senses were screaming at her to climb back up to safety, but her curiousity got the best of her. 

“Hello? Who are you?”

The bluenette looked around the forrest, it was enchanting, making her remember her trip to the Enchanted Dominion, serene and filled with life. The master hadn’t expected to run into anyone out here besides potential unversed but it was welcomingly quiet. 

When the blonde was in sight and staring at her she politely bowed her head, “My name is Aqua...nice to meet you. I hope I didn’t startle you too much, I almost didn’t notice this place.”

“I...hope I’m not intruding.”

“So, it’s Aqua, huh? Nice to meet you, I’m Amethyst!” She introduced, smiling. Sure, this world was strange and confusing, but at least it wasn’t uninhabited. It seemed to actually be pretty well off, now that Amethyst could pay attention to the details and not worry about being electrocuted or otherwise slain by some security system she’d never had to contend with until now. In fact, she was starting to look for shops she could… borrow from…

“Heh, it probably is some sorta high-level magic, but it’s beyond me. Magic isn’t commonplace where I come from, but it seems to be normal here, with how casually you’re talking about it… not to mention the fact that you didn’t panic when I called in Corvus… It’s a load off, to say the least.” She admitted, relaxing for a moment. She then smiled.

“Hollow Bastion… that’s a different name, but not the weirdest name I’ve heard of for a city. Thanks for the welcome… err… could you show me around?”

Aqua nodded, “Nice to meet you Amethyst,” the master smiled and tilted her head. “High level magic summons are still rare, so I wouldn’t recommend summoning him too much in town, might make people think we’re about to go to war against another horde of heartless or nobodies. They’re very wary...hence the security system.”

The bluenett turned around, “Follow me, I’ll take you to the main heart of town. Nothing like a sea salt ice cream after being dumped through a strange portal. You’ll also find it’s the best place to get supplies and make stuff. We can also probably find you a place to stay.” She walked forward at a casual pace but not too fast to leave her escortee alone. 

“You’d be surprised how many people have found themselves here, the name is kinda symbolic; it’s a place for people to call home but not their real one...hence Hollow Bastion.”

Said woman flew in a bit, and leapt off of Corvus’ back, dismissing her summoned ally with a smile. She then turned to face Aqua properly, and shrugged.

“Etro help me if I know. Last thing I remember was being on a mission to guard Academia researchers while they were studying some old Pulsian ruins… but, given that a portal was the culprit, it probably had to do with the Paradox Effect…” She admitted, before suddenly making a face of realization.

“I’m running my mouth about things I don’t really get, and I don’t even know who you are! How rude of me!”

She smiled at the blue-haired woman.

“What’s your name?”

“Hm, oh, I’m Aqua,” she watched as the large summoning soared off and looked with her collectively calm eyes at the woman. Hearing terms not entirely familiar might make some excessively inquisitive or give them dumbfounded looks. But as the master had learned and been  trying to teach, accepting the unknown as fact made navigating worlds and people from them not your own easier. 

“Sounds like time magic gonna a little wrong, luckily you’ve landed where people are used to getting drifted away from their homes by strange...things.” The bluenett crossed her arms and brought a hand up to think for a moment. 

“In any case, welcome to Hollow Bastion.”

“It’s how it should work. It’s what I want to inspire.” The King stated with a kind smile and then thought. “Oddly enough they seem to scared to come here directly. But they usually appear at a distance - in front of my kingdom.” 

“That’s not reassuring, it might mean they’re weaker here or they might be holing up somewhere waiting to strike.”

She had been on a mission to guard Academia researchers when she found herself pulled into a portal that had appeared right behind her, and then, it proceeded to spit her out… well, wherever here was.

It wasn’t any place she knew, and she knew every back alley and dark hole of Cocoon, plus she had learned Gran Pulse pretty quick. And that wasn’t even the end of her woes-the place had some sort of self-defense system, which was now torturing her. She hissed, and finally decided enough was enough. 

“Corvus!”

With the loud cry, a mechanical humanoid raven descended from the skies, and shifted into a mountable version of itself, which she backflipped onto, panting. She shook her head and ran a gloved hand through her now-somewhat-razzled dark purple hair, taming it. She then looked up, her goggles concealing her eyes, and saw the blue-haired woman.

“Hey, you, can you… um, turn this… whatever it is off? It’s kinda trying to kill me!” She asked.

“Oh...right, let me just,” Aqua moved her hand in a quick pattern calling up one of the consoles and having it register the...flying woman with a very large other worldly creature hovering overhead. “Do you mind me asking first...how you came to be attacked by the city’s grid? I mean, you can’t have just fallen out of thin air unless,” Aqua’s voice trailed off before she cleared her throat and turned off the platforms and sighed. 

“Right, there you go, shouldn’t give you much trouble now.”

Sitting on the upper battlements of Hollow Bastion, the master watches out over the empty valley. Feeling something pulling her out there, some familiar prese~

 A loud secruity grid bump snapped the master from her thoughts and sent Aqua running down the steps to investigate what had triggered the town’s security. Normally she’d have called the two apprentices in town to assist her but they were resting after her rigourous training exercise trying to get them to handle throwing their weapons and having it pull back to them. 

Finally the bluenette got to the lower battlements seeing someone being juggled by the security system pads.

“You’re kingdom is very lucky then to have a king who not only stands against the darkness but lets them know they can do the same. If you don’t mind me asking...have the heartless and nobody attacks centered around anywhere inparticular?”
