A bright smile crossed over Ophelia’s features, glad that the other girl seemed to have taken her up on her offer. “Great! I promise we’ll have a good time – the people might be a bore, but you can always count on them having a really fantastic house and gardens.” Although usually they were always a little too done up and pretty for her tastes. She preferred exploring abandoned places, ones that had fallen into disrepair and held a more haunting beauty. Which was possibly a little morbid, but she’d found that capturing those places on film always looked better than something that was already conventionally beautiful, as things that had fallen apart held stories that these houses bottled up behind perfectly done floral arrangements. As she started to walk away from the crowds, she turned to glance at the other girl – who still seemed as shy as she had when Ophelia had noticed her standing alone in a corner. It was a feeling she knew well, and whenever she encountered it nowadays – be it in herself or in others, she did her best to try and dispel it. “I’m Ophelia, by the way, most people just call me Leia though – it’s less of a mouthful. You’re new here, aren’t you?” Being a stranger was something Ophelia knew well, and she couldn’t remember ever being in one place for long when she was younger. Feeling out of place was something that she’d grown familiar with, being the new kid more often than she could count. Although her parents had always been good at making it seem like more of an adventure than anything else. Now, she supposed she’d probably see it a bit differently, especially if she was thrown into high society before even getting the chance to make any friends.
Well, at least she was friendly. And seemingly more fun than the adults that surrounded them in an endless sea that Melody would never like. This made her feel like a fish out of water and she already felt that enough when she was in school, she didn’t need to feel it when she wasn’t as well. “Anything is better than this right now,” well, maybe not anything, but close enough. The girl was right, though, they usually did have quite fantastic rooms and designs outside as well. Probably paid for decorators or the wife did all of it -- either way the house was usually better than the people and their company. Honestly Mel was just happy her parent’s mansion had an indoor pool otherwise she’d be s.o.l. in winter. Following behind her, watching the shock of red hair as they made their way through the crowds, Melody kept to herself and didn’t say much. Honestly, she was most often worried she’d say something to send people away. It’s happened more times than she can count, but what she said was never wrong. Just back home... Girls didn’t like her because she didn’t always like what they did... And she was weid to them and everyone else... Which led to bullying. And her being closed off. Even when she grew into herself. There were other issues as well, but she didn’t like thinking about them, so she woldn’t. But she was definitely semi-guarded, but she loved having fun so this can’t be too easy to ruin could it? I like Ophelia. But Leia will always hold a special place...” Not that she’d say why, but let’s say it uses the letters S and W. And is out of this world. “Uh yeah, a bit. Not new to the situation, but new to New York. I’m from Cali, so... this place is... Different. To say the least.” Definitely colder... And less friendly. Not that she ever saw Cali as friendly really. Not when she faced what she did. But at least there was sunshine and ocean. “How long you been here?” That couldn’t be a bad thing to ask. It was simple at least. Not really something she should get wrong, but really all Mel needed was to relax, then maybe she’d be okay. “Lifer?”
