character A wants to propose to their partner.
They've been thinking about it for a long time.
And they're pretty damn sure they couldn't live without B; they would rather die. They gotta do it. The more time passes, though, the more pressure and nerves A is feeling. They gotta do it. They gotta.
so they take B out somewhere special. A beautiful hike, a favorite restaurant, you name it. The ring is in their pocket. They're so, so nervous. B's gonna say yes, of course- will they? Right? Is A gonna fuck this up? Lose them?
as the 'perfect opportunity' approaches, they're sweating buckets, got shaking hands, maybe shaking everything, red in the face from the adrenaline and their pulse it through the roof, they can barely think straight- they might puke, they feel like they're gonna vomit any second now-
and maybe they do. Or maybe they just feel B's cool hand on their head, a soft whisper saying "hey. A. You're feverish. C'mon, why don't we...let's go home."
A is so caught off-guard by this that they let themselves be dragged home. Or maybe they pass out in the car. Either way, when they eventually wake up feeling slightly more lucid, they're overcome with disappointment and maybe guilt.
at this point, A just wants to get it over with. Maybe the proposal style doesn't matter. They just needed B to be their fiancée with all their heart. Maybe they'd rest easier knowing they were.
"B, could you...could you go grab my pants for me? What I was wearing?"
A fetches them. B pulls out the ring box and does their damn best to sit up.
"Sorry to do it this way, but...B, I would rather die then live without you. And l've been planning to say this for three days, it's not the fever talking. I want to be with you forever. Would you marry me?"
obviously, B says yes. And then forces them to take a nap. But B makes sure the first thing A sees every time they wake up is that ring, so they know it wasn't a dream.
