"You sure you want to try that princess?"

“I’m not…” then she stopped herself, frowning at him for the name. She hidden the stolen food behind her back a few moments prior, sure that nobody had been looking.

“I’m not -er- not sure what you mean,” she hoped it sounded convincing, but the tone rang false even to her.

She pursed her lips, thinking. Maybe she could get somebody to help her, but she didn’t really know, anyway it made sense.

But scraping together the courage was difficult, the food she stole could have been for other hungry mouths, but she was hungry too.

“Do you steal -er- a lot?”

He shook his head. “Not anymore, and when I did it was only cause I ‘ad no other choice.”

“Now you.. you’ve got more choices?” she wondered what that was like, to have escape routes. Not that she’d leave behind everyone she had to help.

In the small satchel she started putting in the cans and packaged food, nothing that’d go bad too quick. Even though he could see her, it was a big late to hide.

On the one hand scared that he’d tell someone, but on the other thinking stealing, even if it was deplorable, might have been a good skill to have. In the hard times the Cat was suffering from she’d need to feed herself and her friends.

“Well, if ya don’t have clothes or somethin’ ta ‘ide it in it’ll be best ta cause a distraction first. Working in teams ‘elps a lot.”

He got up ignoring the water on him and the sand, the dirty sand over his ragged and wet coat. It seemed it used to have a tint of navy blue but even that shade is gone now. “What year is it?” he asked. His voice seemed…normal. Like a young man’s. His voice was deep and smooth.

He looked around, the place hasn’t changed. He smiled a little–thinking he was free,until he turned and saw his reflection in the river. Black eyes. Immediately his face grew to a frown.

He turned to Amelia for the suggestion, “Why?” he asked strongly.

“It’s… it’s 1837..” she said nervously, she was afraid, but void demon or not, she’d help him. Would Daud help her if the man was a evil? She didn’t know how she’d contact him even. Maybe she’d hit her head and was stuck in a dreamland, a nightmare.

“I think… I mean you -uh- you look cold and sick…” she said, shying away from the gaze of his inky black eyes. “Or -er- or at least get you warmer clothes, maybe.”

Amelia wanted to question him, but what would she ask? None of it made sense, but he might have been in trouble and that was enough of a reason to help him.

Shakily she got to her feet, adjusting her clothes to shake out the sand, then reaching out a hand to help him up.

He got up with no problem and stared at her hands then furrowed his brows then looked at her. He walked forward,passing her but then stopped then frowned. He looked sad. “I don’t– How do I look sick?”

He only stood quiet for moment then hesitated. He stayed with the woman– perhaps he would accept her offer.

He stood up without her help, almost gracefully. He was looking at her extended hand and she awkwardly lifted it to her neck to toy with the black choker she always wore.

He looked so sad, she wanted to reach out, to help him in the only way she knew how, in the way her father had done for her.

“You’re so.. so pale. Your -er- lips are blue… please come with me?” she pleaded, worried that if he didn’t he’d die out in the cold, forgotten.

She did find herself in the worst and most dangerous of situations. Unlucky, some would say. There was blood in her dusky pink skirt, stained in her shoes and ripped stockings.

Gangs plagued the city nearly as much as rats, a woman, a woman with nothing on her, was stabbed while Amelia hid. She was a coward, a coward covered in a dying woman’s blood as she tried to staunch the flow. She looked up at a sound, afraid the gang had come back.

Instead inky, almost empty eyes, stared at her.

“Can you… go get someone,” her voice was breaking “Please,”

The corpse like man did as he was told and opened his eyes. Anyone who were to look at his eyes could feel their heart drop. His eyes were all black. Bleack and no pupils. Only black. Purple bags sat under his eyes. He looked like a living corpse.

Finally he sat up slowly looking around. How could he be alive? He’s so pail…. and thin. Pail skin, and..freckles? Either way those freckles were also drained of color, and his lips looked like a small tint of blue like the sea.

“Where…where am I? What’s today’s date?” he asked still sitting in the sand.

Amelia had a split second of joy as he stirred slightly, moving her other hand towards his face. The heavy bags couldn’t have been healthy; she had to get him somewhere else fast.

Then his eyes opened.

Black and glinting like tar in the early morning light, they had no irises, no whites. The effect of his pale skin and dark eyes shadowed by dark eyes and cast blue was terrifying, but he looked near death and Amelia couldn’t leave him to die on the beach, even if he was just a monster of the Void. She took her hands from her mouth of where she’d stifled her frightened scream to set them so she could sit up better.

“It’s… it’s the ninth day of the month of Hearths,” she all but whispered, her voice shaken, wavering slightly. “I think we need to -uh- need you to get some place warm,” she was shaking, beneath the once fine coat she wasn’t cold, but her hands were shaking none the less.

A young man lay on the wet beach’s sand, mud and many other curiosities of the water stuck on the young man’s face. His eyes were closed. This man looked like he were dead– either way his hair is wet and a dark shade of what once was a copper red. His face was pale and skin was salty. He smelled like the Wrenhaven river, after all the water is hitting his skin roughly. He seemed to be not affected by it.

He only laid there,eyes closed and perhaps asleep, how long had he been there?
