thoughts upon rewatching game one of the 1991 nba finals
when mike dunleavy sr. came on the screen my thirteen year old son said ‘mike dunleavy?!? how old IS he?’ which would be a pretty silly thing to think if not for the fact that mike dunleavy jr. absolutely looks like "some sort of mutant ageless beast"*Â
kobe bryant patterned himself after jordan so well that at at least three different points during the game i thought 'kobe!' (said in the way jerry seinfeld says 'newman!'). these were related to mannerisms rather than the way he played. i've always thought the 'look at the similarities between kobe and jordan!' thing was a bit like finding out everything the person you like likes, pretending to like it too, and then marveling at how much you have in common
i ended up feeling nostalgic about really stupid stuff. like they were talking about sneaking into places while guards read newspapers and i said 'oh man. guards probably don't even read newspapers anymore.' like what kind of world is this if security guards aren’t reading newspapers.Â
bill cartwright looked so old to me when i was a kid and seeing him again i thought ‘holy cow. he looks old to me even now.’ so i googled and of course in 1991 he was the age i am now. feeling good. Â
even though i absolutely knew what was going to happen, i felt nervous like it might change
it was really troubling to my son also that the time left and the score weren't constantly on the screen. also that the refs didn't review calls. (the last minute of a basketball game lasting only slightly over a minute! what!)
also aw vlade divac, you flopping fool http://i.imgur.com/YUasFOi.gifv

to be honest, i think shabazz napier has a thing or two to teach catherine zeta jones about passion
kobe bryant's reaction to missing the last second three that would have tied the game is a half step away from the scene in the simpsons where ralph wiggum's heart visibly breaks. the awkward stance, the 'oh god' look in his eyes. everyone is looking with disbelief in the direction of the basket but him. he's already turning his back on the him who took that shot.Â
the most jason terry photo ever taken. every time he touches the ball he feels smug about it
i'm telling you. as soon as you get a mohawk, everyone thinks it's okay to touch your hair any old time
it looked like everyone was holding their breath, okay, so this was the obvious way to waste 20 minutes
the totally amazing joakim noah piece the incredible cory cravatta did that is now hanging in my home if you are into chicago sports (especially the blackhawks) check him out:Â http://corycravatta.com
