Winter 1791 - Boston, MA

As Ginny prepared for her wedding ceremony in the cold basement of the church she heard the sound of heels clacking down the stone steps.

"Ginny..." Edith's voice echoed in the empty space, "You look well."

"I did not expect you would come," Ginny replied, her mind was elsewhere.

"I gave my word I would stand with you. I do not break my word."

Ginny exhaled softly, then turned to face her, "You ought to hate me."

"I tried."

"And?"

Edith's gaze sofened, "I could not bear it."

Ginny closed her eyes, "Eddie is a good man. He earns a respectable living. He means to take a better house come Spring."

"Aye, I have heard. Tell me, Ginny, if you had been born with a little fortune of your own, would you still be marrying him?"

Ginny hesitated before weakly responding, "I do not know."

"I thought as much."

"When you walk out that door...that will be the end of it.," Edith said firmly.

Without another word, Ginny leaned in.

"Ginny?" Edmund's sharp voice broke through the moment.

"Eddie..." Ginny said.

As the Hoffman family prepares to welcome their firstborn, Innen recieves the news that she has been let go from her job. While she is left shaken and worried about their financial future, her excitement is unwavering. Especially with William by her side.

Dear Mrs. Hoffman,

We regret to inform you that your services as a cook at the Marahr hosuehold will no longer be required.

It has come to our attention that your present condition renders you unable to fulfill the full extent of your duties. We trust you understand the necessity of maintaining both propriety and efficiency among our staff.

As such matters are of a delicate and personal nature, we shall not swell upon them further.

You will recieve wages due up to this date, along with a small consideration in acknledgement of your prior service. We wish you well in your future endevors and trust that you will find a situtation more suited to your needs.

Or do you simply not care? Ginny: And what would you have me do? Refuse his hand? Court you? Ruin us both? Edith: I would have you speak plainly. I would have you say what exists between us is more than idle fondness. Ginny: It does mean something. Edith: Yet you marry him all the same. Ginny: I must marry someone. A woman has little choice in such matters. Edith: Then I am to be your secret comfort? Ginny: Do not be cruel. You know my circumstances. Edith: I know only that you shall have his name and he your future. Edith: I send my congratulations on the engagement. You and Eddie seem quite happy.

My dear mother,

I hope this letter finds you in good health and fair spirits. I write to you with the happiest of news – on the fourth of this month, Innen and I have wed. I know you had hoped to be present, and I cannot say I did not wish the same, though I felt your good wishes with us.

I have enclosed a photograph from the day, so you might see for yourself how radiant Innen looked. I scarcely believe my luck that she has agreed to be my wife, though I have spent the better part of a year trying to convince her I was worth the trouble.

With it I included a small sum. Not much, but enough, I trust, to take some weight off your shoulders as the colder months approach.
