the crisp blue color of the sky makes his heart ache, reminding him of his gym. he worked hard to make his gym feel ethereal. he’s the son of an esteemed gym leader, plus his gym came 8th in a trainer’s journey; he felt the need to prove himself worthy of this position, especially at his age, and that he’d risen to the task. except his efforts now look rather useless, because the shadow pokémon emergency has ( rightly, he knows too ) become most people’s priority.
although he knows it’s important, he can’t help feeling a bit like he’s been deprived of his first year as opelucid’s new gym leader. “beautiful weather, isn’t it?” he asks, trying to sound casual as he casts a wistful gaze upon the sky. the young man sounds a little choked up.
beside sunny, emile is cross-legged and a touch groggy. he basks in the light as a heliolisk does on the roof of opelucid’s gym, squints when he turns to look at the other. ‘ man, i’m about to fall asleep up here. ’ he groans. even a few storeys above the bustle of the city he catches the hitch in sunny’s words, eyes slightly widening. ‘ you good? ’ his friend sounds anything but. growing up meant the two saw less of one another ; even so, it didn’t feel as if hardly a day had passed every time he stopped by to say hello. though, he doesn’t want to make a big deal of it, reclining to rest against elbows tucked at his sides. ‘ ohh, yeah, i know what happened. can see it on your face, ’ emile leans over with one eye closed. a grin teases the corners of his mouth and his voice lilts with a bubble of laughter. ‘ one of those shadow pokemon got you good, huh? bet it was, like, a tiny little shadow patrat that chased you and you’re too embarrassed to say so. but really, sunny, what’s wrong? ’
