A tiny blueberry with a tinier space lizard
âDid you get bit by something?â
âIâm not sure,â Jag admitted, âbut Iâm certainly starting to think so.â
The mark below his ear was certainly not getting any smaller. It was painful and itchy. Also, he was fairly certain that he was running a low-grade fever at this point.
âOrdinarily, this is where Iâd make some sort of a joke about you and bugs and biting but, honestly? Iâm-- Oh.âÂ
He didnât so much sit down as melt onto the floor. It probably wasnât his most dramatic move so far, but it was one of his most necessary. âI think someone turned up my gravity.â
Strenuous
Jaina gave a groan, trying to get out of bed even as he tells her to take it easy. Looking out for herself has never been her strong suit. She was headstrong and not accustomed to giving anything less than her best at all times.Â
âI need to. I canât afford to sit on my ass for weeks. Some crazy thing will come up and Iâll need to go deal with it and I need to stay sharp.âÂ
Even as she insisted, she winced while she tried to get to her feet again. She definitely shouldnât be doing much of anything but when had she even been sensible? Maybe she just doesnât know how to let go, even when her body isnât prepared to take any more. Â
@jedilegacied
âJaina,â Jag said, shaking his head, âyou are absolutely not getting up until youâre medically cleared.â
He reached out a hand to place on her shoulder and steady her in the bed. âI should be furious with you, you know. You said that you were fine only to pass out at Master Skywalkerâs bedside. I am definitely not thrilled that you would downplay your own injury to such a degree. You need to take better care of yourself.âÂ
He sighed. âIn any case, you will be off of your feet for quite some time. If some âcrazy thingâ requires you to âget off your assâ, then someone will come and tell us and I will tell them to go to hell.â

Academy Anecdotes
Zekk didnât say anything, but he thought it was interesting to compare Jagâs more limited experiences with the Organa-Solos to his own lengthier one. In recent years, the family had embraced the importance of sharing intelligence as a matter of necessary safety as opposed to preserving secrets under the premise of protecting people from unpleasant truths. It wasnât hard to understand the cause of the shift, of course: Jaina was older now, and thus ostensibly in less need of being âprotectedâ from things her parents would have rather not told her, and they had furthermore all lived through a war together. Zekk had known Jaina since they were both kids, and sunk deep in the âyouâll understand when youâre olderâ category. Jag, on the other hand, had only entered the picture once the war was already underway; he had never seen Jainaâs parents deal with her a child.
It was still funny to hear Jagâs statement, and think back to all the times in the past that attempts by adults to keep their kids safe had led them into trouble.
Bringing that up wasnât likely to amuse Jag, though. Especially not right now.
(Part of Zekk was tempted to bring it up explicitly because of that, but that wasnât a part of himself that Zekk let out to play often. Not when it mattered, anyway. And Jag, apparently, had decided this was something that did.)
Instead Zekk shrugged. âMention whatever you like. Talk about whatever you like. Iâm not your marriage counselor, Jag, and Iâm not your commanding officer. Iâm Jainaâs friend, and so she asked me to spare her a potentially painfully awkward revelation. Which, as it turns out, was unnecessary because you already knew all about it.â Which Zekk still thought was hilarious, even as he found Jagâs sensitivity grating. âBut since we didnât know you knew, I came to make sure you did, because she didnât want to keep a secret from you. And now everybody knows that everybody knows, huzzah.â
He raised an eyebrow and added drily, âThe two of you can discuss your respective fathersâ torrid affair exactly as much or as little as you want to from now on. That is a choice that I am going to leave completely in your hands. Iâve officially now spent way more time and energy thinking about Han Soloâs sex life than I ever planned to. And way way more time thinking about Soontir Felâs than I ever, ever wanted. Ballâs in your smashball court now, hon.â
It was probably common knowledge to most that, while no longer actively Zekkâs rival in any respect, he and Jag werenât exactly compatriots most of the time. He didnât tend to care for the way that Zekk couldnât seem to resist reminding him how well he knew Jaina. There wasnât anything that Jag coudl do to compensate for a friendship of that longevity. He had met Jaina when he had and, though he honestly believed that it wasnât soon enough, there really wasnât much that he could do about that.Â
Still, Jaina had very clearly made her choice, as had Zekk for that matter, and the whole thing was now just sort of irritating and somewhat wearying to Jag.Â
âFine,â he said, unsure of why he would want to belabor the point much longer. âThen, you can consider your mission accomplished and report back that I have been given all relevant intel,â he shrugged, crossing his arms over his chest. âAnd, I can assure you, we have both spent more than enough time on that particular subject for one lifetime. I donât think there will be any need to discuss it more for the time being.âÂ
At least that was one thing that they could agree completely on. Jag had no desire to spend any time thinking about either his father or his father-in-lawâs sex life. Even when it appeared that theyâd overlapped.Â
[I will be around off and on today.Â
I got a new desk a while ago, and Iâve found that it makes me more productive and want to do more writing than lounging in my bed.Â
Anyway, if you want to do things or want to chat, hmu]

Jains shook her head slowly, not wanting to move quickly with the pain in her head. The accidental nap had helped a bit but she imagined if she didnât treat it sheâd be this way for a while yet. Really she should have used a pain spray before laying down but sheâd more or less just stumbled into the bed and burnt out.
âI never got far enough to find pain spray. Just kinda⊠crashed. That would help probably.â She looked up at Jag with a lopsided and apologetic smile for the trouble she had caused already. âIf I could get it to stop pounding in my ears we could probably still make dinner.â Even as she mentioned it she brought a hand to her head, rubbing at her left temple with a wince where she could feel her pulse as if someone was thumping her in the side of the head rhythmically.
Jag looked around, seeing if he could find some pain spray in the drawers of her room. âIsnât there some Jedi trick you could do? A meditation or something?â he asked. Sometimes it was still very hard to figure out what all Force-sensitive people were capable of. It seemed to be an ever-changing list.Â
He picked up the pain spray once he found it and brought it back over to the bed where he handed it to her.Â
âHere. Forget dinner,â he told her, shaking his head. âIâll go and get us some sandwiches or something while the pain spray kicks in. Then we can just eat it here. Sound good?â

Long days were common for Jaina to no oneâs surprise. She was not one for setting herself down for long stretches. But today had been especially long. She just short of stumbled into her room after finishing her day, tossing herself into her bed with a groan. Her head was pounding, headache strong enough that she was experiencing auras of light and scent. She needed... a pain spray? Sleep? Who knew. She groaned as she rolled over, kicking off her boots. At least that would be a small relief.
jedilegaciedâ:
If she was honest with herself Jaina would have to admit the pain in her head was probably due to too many days with little or no sleep and only a few trances to keep her going, but she wasnât always honest with herself. She had a job to do and that meant the war came first and her health came second until it was done. She couldnât afford to lose anyone else because she was napping.
âMad because I forgot we were supposed to be together tonight. I feel like the worst partner aroundâŠâ It was difficult having a relationship in their situation. Most of their time together was borrowed but theyâd made it work. But standing someone up was a pretty trashy move. âI hate that I screwed it up.â
Jag shook his head. âNo. Iâm not mad. Itâs not your fault if youâre feeling unwell,â he told her. âWas I a bit upset when I thought Iâd just been randomly stood up with no reason? Sure. However, clearly this qualifies as a reason.âÂ
He looked around briefly. âDid you use some pain spray? Do you want to sleep for a bit?âÂ
While not the original plan for the evening, he didnât see why they couldnât spend time together while not necessarily conscious. Especially if Jaina was this exhausted. It really didnât seem to make sense to offer to do anything else.

Jaina paused, rubbing at her eyes in hopes the pressure would ease the pounding in her head. She really should have expected him to try to help, to notice so quickly that she was as wobbly as she was. He was always good to her even when she had done something stupid like this.
âIâm just⊠my head hurts. Happens sometimes. Mostly exhaustion.â She shrugged, setting herself down beside him on the bed. âI was thinking about how to get it to stop. I forgot what day it was.â She did feel bad about being late. They so rarely got downtime together and sheâd unintentionally burnt some of it up half asleep.
She leaned against him, letting the warmth of him sink in and unwind her tense muscles a little. âYouâre not mad, right?â
Jag sighed and shook his head.Â
"Jaina, you have got to stop working yourself this hard,â he told her. There wasnât really any admonishment in his tone. After all, they could hardly choose their own hours, these days. Still, he wished she wouldnât let herself be everything to everybody so often. âMad?â he asked, his eyebrows raising at the question. âOf course not. Youâre not well. You should rest. Why would that make me mad?â

Jaina had been half out of it, not quite asleep and also not entirely awake when the door opened. She was fairly sure sheâd imagined it, since she had an arm over her eyes to block out whatever little light there was in the room. She would have written it off if not for the voice int he dark that she recognized about the same time she recognized his signature in the Force.
âJag,â she mumbled, about to ask him what he was doing there before she remembered they were supposed to meet and flung herself up on the bed, making her head pound with a spike of pain. âKriff! Ah, I⊠forgot. Iâm the worst⊠Sorry.â
She winced, wobbling sightly as she sat there. âGive me⊠five minutes. Iâll make it up to you.â Even as she spoke she tried to pull herself up and out of bed, attempting to find a pain spray in one of the drawers in the room. There wasnât enough time for a healing trance or sleep but that would do, right?
âWhoa,â Jag responded, throwing up a hand as if to stop her movement..âTake it easy.âÂ
Something about the way that she was jerkily tearing around the room, not quite steady on her feet made him concerned. Â
He watched her digging around in the drawers. âWhatâs wrong? Youâre clearly not... Somethingâs clearly not right. Whatâs the matter?âÂ
He moved over to sit on the edge of the bed, reaching out to place a hand on her shoulder. âWhat can I do?â

Jag was not a person unaccustomed to being stood up. Schedules were crazy for people in their lines of work, and sudden, unexpected meetings or situations came up frequently on both sides.Â
Still, it wasnât like Jaina to stand him up and then not find a way to let him know what was going on. Either through a direct message or through a proxy. So, when he found himself still in the dark ninety minutes after they were supposed to meet, he found his way to her quarters and keyed in the entry code that sheâd given him. He wasnât sure if she was asleep or just resting, but the light was out and she wasnât moving. âJaina?â he asked, softly. It wasnât like her to just fall asleep and forget her duties and appointments.

This, all of it, was still relatively new to Jaina. For most of her life sheâd only ever really left her brothers in under her guard. Even their parents were held at a careful distance as if she was always waiting for the other engine to drop out on her. People knew the outside presentation they got: cocky young Jedi, ace pilot, those sorts of things. They rarely saw the softness or vulnerability she could display, but somehow Jag had slipped under her defenses without her planing on it. She was still figuring out little by little how to cope with that.
At least he was patient, and frankly his touch trailing over her exposed back didnât hurt either. She didnât honestly know what to do with being caled beautiful, but she appreciated that he felt that way and she shifted enough so that she could look at him and flash him a brief smile. Everything else might have been hell aropund them but if she had one good thing in the middle of war it was this.
âItâs been too long, I know that much for sure,â she stated with a grin. They rarely had the luxury of downtime where they were free to enjoy one anotherâs company without worrying about who had their next meeting when. It was actually nice to be able to take their time like this and she only regretted that they wouldnât be able to do it often. âI wish we had more than just today butâŠâ In the end duty came first for them both, as unpleasant as that might be.
âDuty calls,â he finished for her, continuing his gentle path of exploration. He wasnât really trying to incite anything at that particular moment. Force knew that heâd incited enough before their sanisteam. And during, come to that. Now, he was just relaxing and enjoying seeing as much of Jainaâs skin as he wanted to. Far too often, their moments together were furious and to be completed before the next meeting or duty roster assignment. In fact, more often than not, they didnât even get to remove more than the absolutely essential clothing, and then it was back to work before anyone noticed them gone. This, though? This was magic. Just being able to be for a moment and to not have to worry about running off. Theyâd have to emerge for food eventually but, for now, the sandwiches heâd snagged from the cafeteria would be fine. They had caf and they had sandwiches. Force knew that the two young pilots could survive on that for quite a while if necessary. They certainly had in the past. âI just canât figure out how I got fortunate enough that youâre spending your day at liberty in my room and in my bed. Whatever I have done to make this a reality, it was certainly not a waste.âÂ
Wedge Antilles: Fel. I thought I stationed you... not here!
Jag Fel: Right. I'm just here in the plaza looking for, um, this!
Wedge Antilles: A half-eaten box of McNuggets?
Jag Fel: Yup, it's my lunch.
Wedge Antilles: Uh-huh. And what type of food is a McNugget?
Jag Fel: Some type of a paella?
Wedge Antilles: You had to know that was a bad guess.
Jag Fel: Well, the point is, I needed my paella and I noticed the sky bridge, so I thought I might be of some help, but I'll just go back and stand next to a piece of tape and do nothing.
jedilegaciedâ:
âItâs fine.â Jainaâs comment was flippant and she tried her best to make sure her voice sounded so as well. It wasnât that she truly didnât care, just that she didnât know how to talk about these things. They were things that no one could change or fix so rehashing them for too long just felt like banging her head against the transparisteel of her cockpit. âI mean, you donât have to be sorry. Besides, everyone says itâs better for me to talk about it.â he didnât tak about it though, becasue she didnât want to think about it, didnât want to face it. Sheâd rather just pretend sheâd dealt with it and keep moving forward. She couldnât afford to stop for grief when they were still fighting a war.Â
She shrugged, turning slightly so that she could see him better when he lay down. DIstraction was the better options, clearly, though she had a feeling saying so would earn her one of those concerned looks he gave her every so often. WHen they had a rare moment to be alone she didnât want to spend it with him feeling like he needed to pity her. âNo, Iâd rather just be with you. We donât get to do this often, like you said. Gotta make the most of it.â
âWell, I certainly am not about to stop you from making the most of it,â he told her, reaching out to continue tracing his hand over her skin. It was still very nice to get to take his time to truly explore each other, and he was going to map out every inch of her with his hands until it was etched into his mind. He knew that, in the past, heâd be tempted to try to get her to talk about it anyway. To attempt to convince her to open up a little bit more. However, he was quickly learning that those attempts were not so much appreciated and he didnât want to get on her bad side. Sheâd open up in time, if she wanted to.Â
âI canât remember the last time we actually got to take all of our clothes off,â he teased. These days, it seemed like they only had time to shift, pull, unzip, or unbutton whatever was absolutely crucial to accomplish their goal. The luxury of actually getting to take a shower together and then lay in bed, fresh and clean, while they sort of examined each other? That was not common at all. âYouâre beautiful,â he said. Because she was.Â
