I've forgotten what I was going to say about this word
Congee
Def: A Chinese rice gruel eaten for breakfast.
Mm, breakfast: The most important meal of any time I'm hungry. Or bored. Bored of being hungry. Sometimes I eat breakfast food just because I'm in the kitchen, and hey, why not? I have a feeling that last sentence was undergrammaticated*.
Why is this dish called Congee tho? Is it food that was an unwilling victim of a conga line?
Rice Gruel: Oh hey, I'm just sitting around being gruel
Conga Line: RICE GRUEL! Dance rice gruel! dance!
Rice Gruel: :(
(Rice Gruel becomes Congee. End scene)
I wouldn't eat rice gruel for breakfast. I wouldn't even eat gruel. There's a reason things are described as being grueling. People have essentially taken gruel and made it an adjective for hard work. And if i'm correct, gruel is like porridge. People have been saying "I had a porridgey day at work" for centuries without even realising it.
Damn you Congee. Damn you.
*this word is patent pending.
unexceptionable
Definition: Beyond any reasonable objection; irreproachable.
Well that sure is an exciting word to start off my word extravaganza (extravanganza would have been a lot more interesting).
It is unexceptionable that this word is somewhat silly with syllables, and is remarkably close to the word unexceptional, which is what my brain first read. Freudian slip perhaps? The idea of a Freudian Slip is unexceptionably a disturbing one. Ye olde therapists shouldn't be running around in ladies underwear. Unless, of course, ye olde therapists want to relive their youth, albeit a youth that is characterised by being an old, sexually confused man.
Unexceptionable seems to be a word that is very obstinate and overly sure of itself. It is without doubt and leaves no room for questions. Much like old men, one of whom was Freud.
It seems my brain has concluded that Unexceptionable is the Wordly equivalent of Austrian psychoanalysts. Thank you brain. You can shut up now.
MY NEW PLAN!
I will post about every word in the dictionary. Or interesting words. And then people will be surprised at how very funny and interesting I am. And they will laugh and yearn to be like me.
I've thought about this plan. I will change it to being an entry about the word of the day at thefreedictionary.com. This is mostly because it is free, and fulfills the basic requirement of being a dictionary.
My first two posts are going to seem SUPER incongruous after this...
In other news, I need to learn how to hyperlink.
The Phone saga continues...
dum dum DUM!
I decided this afternoon that I needed a phone, because my existence was on the verge of actually becoming meaningful and productive without one. I was super-okay with going to go buy one until I walked into the shopping mall. I hate shopping malls. They're not full of people, they're INFESTED with them :( I hate shopping. What added to my troubles was that when I went into the phone shop (I shall call it Phone Shop. Or, to be 90s, Fone Shop) I realised I have very little money. Apparently you need money to be a consumer-pants, and I don't have any. Money, that is, not consumer-pants.
Which means that I am still awol from the world. I shall now drown my sorrows in L.A. Noire. Adios!
Woes from a swimming pool.
My phone is dead. Forever. Instead of a background of something super rad, or a meme that made me giggle, it is now a litter of water droplets. It's kind of these droplets, really, for being a constant reminder that I am a complete tool. Very considerate. Fuck you water droplets. Perhaps it was stupid of me to stand near a pool with a phone in my pocket while drunk friends were near, but I wasn't thinking too clearly at that point in time either. I was attacked, airborne, and immersed in chlorinated water. My thought pattern went something like "lalalala jelly beans are nicewoooahhwhatisgoingonANTI-GRAVITY! i am so in a swimming pool right now! this is awesome! but my phone was in my pocket earlier! and goddammitbloodybloodyfuck it's cold." WHAT I'M TRYING TO SAY IS: Don't let your friends push you in a pool. Unless they give you jelly beans.
What is surprising me though is how much it's annoying me. I always liked to imagine myself as one of those "yeah technology is really useful but I am more in tune with how I feel and I don't need a phone! i talk to real people." Fuck that shit. I don't talk to people in real life because mostly I am stuck at home watching cake shows on tv (there's been a remarkable upsurge in cake shows recently. It's marvelous). And cake shows are only cool to watch if you can send someone a message telling them to watch it too, so you don't feel so alone in your weirdness. What is truly inconvenient was realising that I had to turn on my laptop to check twitter and couldn't just continue vegetating on a couch, and instead had to go fetch my laptop. Except wait! the wireless doesn't extend to the lounge. I had to check twitter, from my BEDROOM! I felt so primitive, and so goddamn entitled at the same time. How have I become such an indulgent creature? Oh no, my phone is AWOL, now I have to check facebook, twitter and my emails off a laptop which is basically just a bigger phone? excuse me while I turn off my tv and sulk about how unfair it all is. Truly though, I do feel like I have become way too taking-stuff-for-grantedy. How do I feel okay sitting for hours everyday talking to people because everything else is too boring and uninteresting. Is this perhaps why my personality is suffering? Maybe I do need to take some time to assess my interests, because as it stands, if there's no qwerty, I'll move on.
This is not to say I'm a socially inept person wholly reliant on text messages to talk to people. I do much prefer the company of a biological organism to plastic liar. But le fact of le matter is, I've become so reliant on my phone to initiate these social exchanges that today, without a phone, was exceptionally lonesome. I think I need to go to Conversation Addicts Anonymous... do those even exist?
And the reason this post is so fragmented and disorganised is because I am halfway between awake and asleep. Masterful sleep-typing, I know.
