WAHAY
SPRING IS HERE, TIME TO RE-ASSESS EVERYTHING
Of the ten resolutions I set myself, I have already completed/dismally failed 5 so here are some new things
NEW
To start saving/planning for my ISAAC FINALLY LEAVES THE EU trip in Summer 2016 (North Africa or Nepal hopefully)
Stay off social media for good
To begin writing interesting essays and stories again, privately
Stick to my Teach First action plan therefore developing my weaker skills for next year
Aaaand I would put something about enjoying my last ever academic summer but considering I have Ireland, Loch Lomond, Parklife, Latitude, Perpignan, the Cathar Trail, Barcelona, the new Street house near Reus, LabCon15 and general lazing around Cambridge all lined up it’s probably not necessary
ONGOING
Revise from mid-February until exams, securing a realistic mark around 68-72%
Use the gym every other day during term time, like last year, until we break up for summer
Continue to respect people’s feelings even if deep down I cba
Last year I managed 29 books, this year (considering I’m going to be busier) aim to read at least 20
Invest in more durable kitchenware that chimes with my aesthetic and, particularly during quiet patches in March and June, really push my culinary skillz (work with more African/Asian recipes)
FINISHED
Yes I do this now - Use more of the money I typically spend on ~basic white boy hedonism~ on the gym, maintaining my crumbling immune system and gigs/trips
I also do this now - Drink (lower amounts so I remember the night and can afford to exist) higher quality booze and attend better quality clubs, go less often, this will make the nights more special. Remember I no longer need to be plastered to unleash the fevered dancing demon within.
Lol oops - Still be in a relationship this time next year
Basically done this with Teach First and DeHav tbh allow town planning - Find a town planning internship and some experience at Coleridge for summer, complete my DeHavilland placement
Don’t need to do this now I have grad scheme - Over Summer, write up a comprehensive plan for my future based on grade prediction, Manchester/London/Cambridge situation and travelling plans
Do you guys need anything? Some snacks, a condom?
chiron at some point probably (via whathashectoreverdonetome)

I’ve spent the past couple of days asking several hundred Grindr users in Edinburgh whether they believe Scotland should be an independent country. Replies were of variable quality. Here is a representative sample:
no one follows me on tumblr so i'm allowed to post this super vain selfie in which I ACTUALLY SUIT A VEST for future reference x
White: 90%
Male: 90%
Of a queer sort: 30% (oh fuck it let's count Homer 40%)
English: 70%
Lol I do just shamefully recreate my own existence in my choice of literature don't I
Naveen Andrews in the BBC's Buddha of Suburbia adaptation. That nose.
I'm 19 and this is my current state of affairs
Hello here is a life update because Heidi wants me to post more on tumblr
I am currently sat in my godmother's house listening to a plumber fiddle with the boiler and wishing he'd leave so I can resume Despicable Me 2 without embarrassment. The nearest tube stop is Turnpike Lane and basically London is really unique geographically and socially and I'm here until the 25th so I need to get used to it. Of course I'm reading NW by Zadie Smith while I'm here, in the way that you read Louis de Bernières in Kefalonia.
Talking of books, I'm reading more spiritedly than I have since primary school. Absolutely ploughing through fiction this summer- Graves, Atwood, Virgil, Tartt, and in the next few weeks, Plato, Smith, Faulkner and yet another Woolf. I think it's because I've finally shaken off that 'I should be revising not reading' feeling I had during GCSEs and A Levels, and a general feeling of 'I'm now almost done with my main education so I need to start self-guiding more' has settled in. Anyway, it's fantastic and I'm learning a lot.
Talking of learning, I'm now doing a double Latin module next year (alongside 3 geography and 1 politics). It evolved very spontaneously but I'm quietly excited about pushing myself into a completely new discipline so late in the game. I've completed two of the Cambridge Latin Course books and I'm now onto the third. Should be GCSE standard by the time the module comes around, which will hopefully give me a good head-start.
Finally, so far in summer I have lazed a great many days in my bedroom and done a two-week stint at a language school as a social activities co-ordinator. From London I shall proceed to Oxford with Frances for a week, and then home, then to Ireland to visit relatives, to London for Nikki and Jon Hopkins, and finally to Manchester for the Labour Conference. On the 30th of September I will return to Durham for another year, and decide if I want this erasmus year in Amsterdam or not.
I suppose my life is fairly interesting at the moment but I basically still have no perfect job lined up so I'm, for once, just trying to live in the moment and not try to think too many years into the future.

5 things i have concluded since deciding i was bi
none of my friends are dicks
the straight guys i know are increasingly tedious because they tend to be far less confident in their masculinity, portray a stereotyped masculinity based on laddy values and be generally less adept at empathy and complex understanding ~ although i'm generalising there ~
[email protected] is finally an acceptable pun to make
most girls i find very attractive seem to take tons of effort to seduce and besides in durham there are like 4 attractive girls because they're all dicks who ride horses and don't know who bonobo is *breathes heavily* however guys i find very attractive pretty much are always up for it because testosterone so is it any wonder i'm getting more of the dudes recently no i don't think so
i now have even less to small talk about with dads of my friends
oh also i fancy way more female celebs than male celebs. young depp/di caprio deffo trump pixie lott but not late 90s kylie or joan from mad men.
these are genuinely my most deep and profound thoughts after a year of struggle ahhahahahahahaha

His habit of reading isolated him: it became such a need that after being in company for some time he grew tired and restless; he was vain of the wider knowledge he had acquired from the perusal of so many books, his mind was alert, and he had not the skill to hide his contempt for his companions’ stupidity. They complained that he was conceited; and, since he excelled only in matters which to them were unimportant, they asked satirically what he had to be conceited about. He was developing a sense of humour, and found that he had a knack of saying bitter things, which caught people on the raw; he said them because they amused him, hardly realising how much they hurt, and was much offended when he found that his victims regarded him with active dislike. The humiliations he suffered when he first went to school had caused in him a shrinking from his fellows which he could never entirely overcome; he remained shy and silent. But though he did everything to alienate the sympathy of other boys he longed with all his heart for the popularity which to some was so easily accorded. These from his distance he admired extravagantly; and though he was inclined to be more sarcastic with them than with others, though he made little jokes at their expense, he would have given anything to change places with them.

i secretly love having a shit dad because i can flirt around the joint and just giggle and scream about daddy issues with potential flames
