Brain picking.

Every so often my friend and I run into funky problems or scenarios that are just begging to be solved or explained. One of the more recent ones, involving complicated colors, even got its own blog post. That got me thinking about how much content I make that I don’t post. A lot of them are funny wordplays or quirks in language, like:

Guess where I’m

or

That, that that “that”’s that? [1]

Others are specialized technical rants about things that I want a full mental map of. Things that I need to pick my brain for, and get a more solid understanding. So where am I leading with this? Essentially I’ve been feeling very lazy in regards to my blog. Despite being productive in other ways like hiking Wachusett Mountain, taking the SATs, getting my GED, and starting my journey towards college... I still haven’t really felt accomplished. So what I’ve decided to do is every time I write a large rant, no matter how specialized, I’m going to write a blog post about it. I think this will help me feel more accomplished by giving a visual indicator that says to the world: “I didn’t do nothing today!”...

I’ll be making my first post tomorrow, probably on how much I hate technology, or how collision works in a game engine. Anyway goodnight for now, Internet.

So Julien and I promised each other that we would both write a blog post today. Well, internet, here I am.

I don’t exactly have a specific topic for this post, so I’ll just ramble about whatever.

Once upon a time I promised myself that I’d consistently make blog posts. As you can see that might or might not be so true. That doesn’t mean I’ve been doing nothing. Well, for 2 months I might’ve done nothing, but this month I’ve actually been doing quite a bit.

Recently I started attending an “Education for Employment” program at Y.O.U., Inc.. You may or may not know this about me but about halfway through last year I dropped out of high school. I’d rather not get into why, but Y.O.U., Inc. has helped me complete my GED (HiSET) in barely 3 weeks. That’s a big thing, but more importantly there’s a chance I can get accepted into a state university because I scored well on the tests! Without even taking the SATs!

I’ve also been working on my secret project and learning OpenGL when I have the time. I’ll talk more about that when I have more to show.

Along with that, I’ve started becoming a part of the Java OpenGL community and even started contributing to an “unlicense-lib”, a JOGAMP based unlicensed development library.

Quick Transition

A few days ago I transferred my domains from GoDaddy to Google Domains, and while the process isn’t quite complete yet, it should be done pretty soon. With this, I’ll also be changing the format of the website a little bit. The daily updates page hasn’t really been working out, so I’ll be converting that into a personal blog. I often find that I just want to say something that’s not really important, and I simply can’t find a reason to clutter my dev log with it.

I’ll be separating the site into separate sub-domains for each part. The dev log will become dev.dwbrite.com, the blog will become blog.dwbrite.com, and the about me will become simply dwbrite.com. Then I think I’ll just add a portfolio and everything should be set. Things might get ugly for a minute but just pretend nothing happened. :)

For actual projects/development, I’m finally starting the headphone/audio cable! All the parts should be here by the 14th at the latest so if everything goes as planned I’ll get a post up shortly after.

On a similar note, I haven’t made a post regarding the creation of the light board. For that I’m sorry, but I do have an explanation. I really don’t want to take it all down, and I haven’t had a reason to make another one. They’re pretty darn expensive after all!

I guess that’s all I have to say for now, so Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! I’ll be back in a few weeks!

I’ve been working on some things slowly since the last post, but I don’t really know exactly what I’ve done at this point so… Yeah stuff has been done.

I also need a spot to upload a picture for the favicons so I’m going to put that here :)

Quick post to say I’m not dead. Sorry I’ve been dead though.

My cold really messed up my sleep schedule and I’m just getting to fixing it.

I found a really nasty glitch in my special floor tile system in which if you switched areas when stepping on a special tile (Like the grass at the edge of Pallet Town / Route 1) it would not work. This needed an overhaul for area-switching and collision-checking logic. It’s much much cleaner now, so that’s nice.

This also led to a weird glitch where you can go north but not south. I’m completely puzzled.

Edit: I fixed it. I was multiplying by the tile size where I shouldn’t have been. Whoopsies.

Attempted to make grass work twice. Failed miserably.
