Individual Dances

1. Victoria Arlen & Val Chmerkovskiy - Viennese Waltz (9+9+9=27) I loved the simplicity of this routine. It was a straightforward V.W. Len should be happy with all the content. I don’t have any real criticisms. Victoria & Val’s chemistry gets stronger each week. I’m not sure how it will stand out, being the first dance & a slow one on Halloween night, but it was great nonetheless.

2. Jordan Fisher & Lindsay Arnold - Paso Doble (10+10+10=30) Another knockout routine from these two. The theme & content was blended quite seamlessly. Super tight & clean, even in the group sections. For another couple, this could’ve been quite messy but Jordan knows placement just as much anyone. They’re doing everything right.

3. Nikki Bella & Artem Chigventsev - Jive (8+8+8=24) I liked this dance just fine, I won’t remember it but I’m not gonna drag it. I do agree with Carrie Ann, that you could see Nikki dancing with her brain, but overall it was good.

4. Vanessa Lachey & Maksim Chmerkovskiy - Paso Doble (8+8+8=24) This just wasn’t their best dance. I get what they going for but the dancing wasn’t as solid as it needed to be. This was the most unsteady I’ve seen Vanessa. I think there was so much focus on the speed and aggression the elegance became an afterthought. Off night for a usually consistent couple.

5. Terrell Owens & Cheryl Burke - Tango (8+8+9=25) T.O. is quite a charismatic performer. Once again, I agree with Carrie Ann, he’s better when it’s a lot of movement. This dance kind of robotic at time, the transitions weren’t seamless. But for the height difference his hold has improve greatly.

6. Lindsey Sterling & Mark Ballas -  Paso Doble (9+9+9=27) Best costumes and make-up of the night. This was a much tighter, cleaner paso than Vanessa & Maks’. The only thing that holds it back from being as great as Jordan’s is you could see Lindsey’s movements were restricted cause of her injury. But she didn’t falter or even hesitate. The girl really killed it, considering her pain. Had she not been injured it would’ve been a perfect score, I’m sure. It’s my favorite dance of the night so far, the choreography was superb, kudos to Mark. Very memorable. These two are easily the most consistent with Jordan & Lindsay.

The whole night has been cloaked in suspense about whether Lindsey was going to dance because she’s injured. I didn’t really worry because this is DWTS we’re talking about, few things they love more than a “Will they or won’t they?”. I figured they would power through, Lindsey has a real shot, she’s Jordan’s only real competition (though Frankie is closing in). I just don’t see them throwing in the towel, this close. I just hope her injury doesn’t affect her quality of dance / scores too much going forward, considering she’s got stay toe to toe with Jordan and Lindsay.

7. Frankie Muniz & Witney Carson - Contemporary (10+10+10=30) This was one of the few or only Halloween dances that actually felt haunting. Frankie nailed his “stalker” part. The disappearing act, played out quite well on t.v.. I liked the theme and acting more than the choreography, for me it was a lot of jumping and throwing. It wasn’t as fluid as I like contemporary to be but Frankie really brought the dance to life with his acting. Frankie is definitely Top 3 material.

8. Drew Scott & Emma Slater - Charleston (9+9+9=27) Drew is absolutely the most improved celeb dancer this season. I mean his footwork, his sync with Emma just worlds away from the early weeks. I’ve been fond of him since Week 1 and this week just proves why. Emma is kicking his butt. The wackiness of this dance was great, perfectly mixed with the Charleston content. Lots of footwork and tempo changes too, Emma didn’t hold back on Drew this week and I’m glad, one of my favorites of the night.

Team Dances (Freestyle)

Team Monster Mash:Terrell & Cheryl, Nikki & Artem, Jordan & Lindsay, Lindsey & Mark (8+8+8=24)

Lindsey and Mark and Jordan & Lindsay, stood out with their solos. I think Nikki & Artem had the weakest one. The corn stalks were distracting, but the group parts were fun and pretty appropriate for the variance in skill. It was definitely a Monster Mash, it was upbeat and wacky. Len is right it was messy but aren’t they all..?

Team Phantom of the Ballroom:  Drew & Emma, Victoria & Val, Vanessa & Maks, Frankie & Witney (10+10+10=30)

Wow... This was really... GOOD. The Phantom of the Opera theme was probably an advantage, being inherently cleaner & more elegant the Monster Mash. Everyone really held their own. I think this was the more skill balanced team, everyone is about as good as each other on this team. There was not glaring weak link. Was it the most perfect sync in the ever no, but it was boosted by the messiness of the previous team. They really looked like a cohesive dance team or cast of a play compared to Team Monster Mash, that looked like 4 different couples dancing together.

Drew & Emma - SAFE

Vanessa & Maks -  Eliminated - Wow the Double Elimination rears it’s ugly head. I said last week, Vanessa should’ve been about Top 4, she’s that good, but she wouldn’t really appreciated this season because it’s so stacked. It’s a shame while this week wasn’t their best, I thought she killed it last week. Definitely a premature exit.

Nikki & Artem - Eliminated - Nikki greatly improved from her emotionless early weeks, sad to see her go, but as the cast thins, she becomes the weakest link. Her Disney dance to the upcoming movie Coco will forever be a favorite of mine.

DWTS S25 E7 Week 6 (Movie Genre Night) Recap/Review

1. Nikki Bella & Artem Chigventsev [Foreign Film] -  Argentine Tango (9+9+9+9=36) Nikki has been a nice surprise this season. When the season started, I didn’t think her stage presence would improve quickly enough, but each week she’s standing out more. I like the mood and character of this dance, her and Artem’s sync was great but I can’t say Nikki look as confident tonight as she did last week and it’s a shame they had that wobble in the split near the end. It’s not a bad performance but as good as last week.

2. Drew Scott & Emma Slater [Action] - Paso Doble (7+7+9+7=30) Drew is stepping with confidence and purpose, his improvement each week is striking. This was one of his better performances in terms of attack, power and stage presence, he didn’t look hesitant or lost. He did get out of sync once or twice but I’m with Shania on this one, it was great. The choreography was pretty great.

3. Nick Lachey & Peta Murgatroyd [Western] - Samba (7+6+7+6=26) This was actually some of Nick’s best footwork. The samba bounce wasn’t really there, he obviously doesn’t have his brother’s fluidity but he’s definitely a performer at heart, and his commitment and attack to the dances is commendable. 

4. Victoria Arlen & Val Chmerkovskiy [Sports] - Paso Doble (8+8+7+8=31) Firstly, I want Victoria’s costume tonight..I would just wear, no place in particular just all the time. Secondly, something about this dance was refreshing, maybe it was the white hockey dance floor but it just felt “new”. This had a lot of steps in, which is always a good sign, that the pro believes in their celeb. Great mix of paso and the hockey theme. It could’ve been sharper in certain places but solid overall. Very rarely, does a celeb guest judge score the lowest of all the judges. I don’t agree with the 7 but I appreciate Shania actually having a real opinion.

5. Terrell Owens & Cheryl Burke [Spy] - Jive (9+9+10+9=37) The camera work on this dance was odd, not just the switching rooms aspect, but not showing his feet at times, just weird. The first half of this dance, I wasn’t convinced on this jive, I thought his kicks and flicks weren’t high or energetic enough but the last half one won me over. The “Feel It Still” song definitely helped. The sync spot on especially in the side step. I just can’t root for or get excited about T.O. but I can’t complain about this dance.

6.Frankie Muniz & Witney Carson [Animation] - Jazz (7+8+8+8=31) Delightfully weird this dance was and I loved every minute of it. I will be watching this dance multiple times over. It was a perfect acid trip to the Trolls land. Frankie absolutely smashed this dance, there were a couple sync issues but nothing that overshadowed sheer zany quality to this dance and Frankie’s performance for me. It was jam packed with dance, props to Witney for this one. I thought this was underappreciated.

7. Vanessa Lachey & Maksim Chmerkovskiy [Musical] - Quickstep (9+9+9+9=36) Vanessa is wonderfully consistent, it’s a compliment to her they saved for the end of the night with Jordan & Lindsey. I don’t she’ll really be appreciated for her stellar dancing and showmanship because of how good those two are, until the season ends. Any other season Vanessa would be the lock but this season you just hope she makes Top 3 or 4. Even with the wardrobe malfunction, Vanessa stayed right on the money with Maks. Clean, quick footwork, killer stamina. Putting that Charleston section at the end after all that quick-stepping was a feat. She really performed the hell out this number. Maks nailed the choreography. I’m a fan.   

8. Jordan Fisher & Lindsay Arnold [Drama] - Rumba (10+9+10+10=39) Jordan is great. What’s new. I don’t have much to say, I’m not surprised, he nailed the fluidity and technique of the rumba. Great acting and chemistry with Lindsay. I like Jordan, but I’m more rooting for Lindsay [Arnold] in this partnership, her choreography and partnering has been the most consistent these past few seasons between her & Mark, it would be a very, very fitting win. 

9. Lindsey Sterling & Mark Ballas [Sci-Fi] - Argentine Tango (10+10+10+10=40) Another signature Mark Ballas Production, no complaints here. Lindsey legit looked like a pro dancer in this AT. The robotic movements and AT lines and hooks. The jump and catch. She knew exactly what she was doing in this dance. She became a cyborg. This is what makes Mark such a coveted partner. He really feeds off of his celeb’s talents while still pushing them beyond. His imagination and realization is unmatched. The marriage of content and concept was never so perfectly executed. Easily one of the most memorable DWTS dances of all-time and Mark’s next Emmy nom. 

It’s really a two-horse race between Lindsey & Jordan.

This is what separated Lindsey and Jordan for me. We know Jordan is good, we expect, it’s not surprising, he’s just confirming what we know. But the seemingly lack of growth can get boring. Whereas Lindsey, she’s really proven herself to be a worthy adversary to Jordan but still surprising us each step of the way. I know she’s good, but each week, she’s even better than I thought. Jordan is good, but each week I know this and am not surprised or really wowed. This is not really against Jordan himself, it’s more of a flaw of casting. He was already a great actor and dancer. I don’t have a problem with him being cast, I just don’t think anyone saw Lindsey being such a threat to him, but now that she is, she’ making Jordan seem like he doesn’t have anywhere else to go, while her and Mark continue to raise the bar each week.

It’s really a two-horse race between Lindsey & Jordan.

DWTS S25 Week 5 Disney Night Recap/Review

I hate that these reviews have been so spotty this season, so many things have been going on for me & it’s not all good, but let’s see if I can get back up on track. Very fitting it’s Disney Night, my favorite theme of all.

Dances

1. Victoria Arlen & Val Chmerkovskiy - Jazz (9+9+9=27) Great dance to start the night. I loved the silent miming nature of the dance, really brought the Mickey origins to life. The sync between Victoria & Val and then the troupe was great. Great marriage of camp and content, it was playful but still had technique. Definitely worth a replay.

2. Vanessa Lachey & Maksim Chmerkovskiy - Waltz (8+8+8=24) Vanessa is undoubtedly a great dancer, but there was something a bit off about this dance. There was something disjointed in the transitions. I don’t know, I liked it but I can’t say I absolutely loved it. I thought the choreography was really good though.

3. Lindsey Sterling & Mark Ballas - Foxtrot (9+10+9=28) I think it’s a risk to do more ethereal quiet dances on a night when it’s so flashy and in your face Disney. But when it’s choreographed as beautifully and tastefully as this, it is a risk worth taking. if I had to think to any DWTS dance the really captures the essence or “magic” of Disney, this dance would be it. It was really choreographed to every flicker & flutter in the music so thoughtfully and carefully, the steps were quite fast but precise. Lindsey is a great muse and match for Mark. Another level.

4. Peta Murgatroyd & Nick Lachey - Quickstep (7+8+7=22) I have to say if I thought anyone would be out by now, I would’ve thought Nick. But I being that I haven’t seen him dance since Week 3, I pleasantly surprised to see that he actually has gotten better, his hold and movements aren’t nearly as stiff as the early weeks. His enthusiasm is infectious, that goes a long way on this show.

5. Drew Scott & Emma Slater - Waltz (9+8+8=25) Fun fact: “The Rainbow Connection” always makes me teary eyed. It’s always resonated with me. Emma’s choreography was great for this song. Drew handled himself quite well. He looked so confident and much more sure in his movements than I’ve seen him before. He was actually leading Emma. I’ve always liked Drew, I just wondered if he could improve quickly enough to last a significant amount of time, I think he has shown really promise. I really liked this dance.

6. Sasha Pieterse & Gleb Savchenko - Rumba (8+8+8=24) I really liked this dance, it was wonderfully choreographed and danced. Sasha and Gleb have good chemistry, it suited this dance well. There was a playful sexy to this dance, it was’t too much nor too childish. They pulled great lines and had fluidity, Sasha has great face when she dances, her eyes are bright and alive, connected to Gleb, which helps more than you would think. Overall, pretty good.

7. Terrell Owens & Cheryl Burke - Quickstep (9+8+8=25) I wanted to like this, but there is just no chemistry between T.O. and Cheryl in this dance. I can see Terrell was really trying to hit everything, but the connection was lost. I think the production was more exciting than the actual dance itself. I give Terrell a lot of credit, cause he really does seem to be working hard his posture was better but it just didn’t come together for me.

8. Frankie Muniz & Witney Carson - Argentine Tango (10+9+10=29)  I was nervous when I found out it was a Pirates of the Caribbean dance, because let’s face it Riker Lynch & Allison Holker, had a legendary Pirate’s paso. So it’s in Frankie & Witney’s best interest that they’re doing an AT, so not to compare. The beginning and middle of this dance was great but to me Frankie kinda lost it toward the end, he started to lose a bit of control, it wasn’t as sharp. For what it was I think it was pretty good, not spectacular but I’ve seen this dance done to this song on this show much better (James & Sharna), which makes reusing music so tricky, because I instantly think of the other dance, while watching this one. So for me that didn’t help them. Then it was anti-climatic, unlike the Riker & Allison paso. Overall this dance was doomed by comparison already, at least for a DWTS super-fan like myself. I like Frankie, but I can’t say I’ll re-watch this dance. I’m sure on it’s own, it’s better than I’m giving it credit for (the judges LOVED it), but it’s hard to ignore what I’ve already seen. 

9. Jordan Fisher & Lindsay Arnold - Foxtrot (10+10+10=30) Jordan is the best dancer of the season, thought he has tremendous competition in Lindsey Sterling, between those two, I’m looking forward to the final. With Jordan being so naturally good, everything he does has to be better than we what we expect. I liked this dance but it’s hard to be wowed, when you know this is just what they do, something about this didn’t feel like it challenged him that much. The traditional parts were great, his hold, his posture and sweeping arms were on point. Obviously he nailed the “breakdown” too. He’s so good, I’m just nitpicking. Maybe he’s so good, he just makes it look easy. But I do wonder if he’s really being pushed out of his physical comfort zone.

10. Nikki Bella & Artem Chigventsev - Jazz (9+9+9=27) My biggest criticism of Nikki back in Week 3 was that she doesn’t emote enough, but boy has that changed. She’s smiling, she genuinely seems engaged with the character and Artem, it great growth. Dancing to an unknown Disney song & movie, was a huge risk, which is probably why they got the last slot (the pimp spot). I have to say the dance made me really want to see this dance. I love how conceptually realize this dance was. Gorgeous and tasteful display of Mexican culture. The choreography was great, it was a lot going on but never too much and Nikki never got lost in the mix. She actually stood out and blended in when necessary. Nikki’s best dance by far, very memorable. In case you couldn’t tell, I really really liked this dance. 

ELIMINATION

Sasha & Gleb - Eliminated - I liked Sasha, she was actually a very good dancer, her lack of “celebrity” probably did her in. Sucks, cause I would like to see her dance more than others. It’s such a tight race this season.

DWTS S25 Week 3 (Guilty Pleasures Night) Recap/Review

So I didn’t recap last weeks Tuesday Night 2 show, cause I was busier than expected & I’ve yet to watch it in full but I do know Debbie Gibson was eliminated :(. Which shows just how good & like-able this cast is, another season she would’ve made it further.

No elimination tonight out of respect for the tragic events in Las Vegas. 

1. Drew Scott & Emma Slater - Argentine Tango (8+7+8=23) For a tall guy Drew doesn’t pull the best lines with his body, he’s so gangly. I wanted to like this because I could tell how committed Drew was to the mystery theme but it was haphazard and messy. Was it me or was the judges over-hyping it?

2. Derek Fisher & Sharna Burgess - Cha Cha (7+7+7=21) This was fun homage to The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. This was most fun I’ve seen Derek have this season, he actually looked quite confident. There’s a natural performer in him.

3. Victoria Arlen & Val Chmerkovskiy - Quickstep (8+7+7=22) Loved everything about this dance. Victoria & Val have great chemistry. Watching this quickstep I would’ve never known her circumstance. The dance was fast but I thought kept up & handled it well.. Yes there was gaping but overall it was pretty strong. Reminded me of watching Amy Purdy. SN: 

Val is crazy for not liking “Tub-thumbing”

4. Vanessa Lachey & Maks Chmerkovskiy (Out) & Alan Bersten - Jazz (7+8+8=23) It’s only been 3 weeks & 4 dances and I already feel Vanessa is gonna go down as one of the all-time great celeb dancers on this show. She’s such a natural, it makes you wonder if she really does have dancing background (not that it matters). Her placement, technique, musicality, performance is so much better than most this season. This cha cha was great example of that.  5. Nikki Bella & Artem Chigventsev - V. Waltz ( 7+7+7=21) I actually enjoyed this a lot more than I was expecting but I still wanted more. I liked the intensity & character play. Nikki did pretty well the choreography. Though I don’t think her & Artem have scorching chemistry that this dance needed, definitely seeing how much better her chemistry with John Cena is, didn’t help. It’s hard not to draw comparisons to Rumer & Val’s passionate 50 Shades V. Waltz in S20. I think Nikki’s emoting skills or lack thereof hurt the quality of her dances because she’s not performing, she’s just dancing. SN:It’s about time someone danced to Love On The Brain by Rihanna, it’s such a good song. 

6. Frankie Muniz & Witney Carson - Samba (7+7+7=21) Frankie was much better in the boy band parts than the samba. I’ve been watching enough DWTS to know when a celeb doesn’t “take the bounce” right. He had the steps but he didn’t quiet capture the samba feel for me. SN: *NSYNC will never be a “guilty” pleasure. No shame over here.

7. Lindsey Sterling & Mark Ballas - Jive (9+9+9=27) A Mark Ballas jive is wonderful thing. If you can nail one of these early on (Katherine Jenkins), or really go out of the box (Chelsea Kane), it tends to set you apart on this show. What I said about Vanessa, ditto for Lindsey. This jive works for so many reasons but mostly the concept and choreography is classic Mark but they don’t hinder each other. The opening sequence is fun but not overlong, when they get into jive it’s near perfect. Lindsey’s kicks & flicks are some of the best you’ll ever see at this stage in a season. Agree with Len dance of the season so far…

8. Sasha Pieterse & Gleb Savchenko - Jazz (7+6+6=19) Ugh, it hurts my heart that Sasha is the bottom of the leader board this week, she’s one of my favorites this season, & one of the better, more consistent celebs. Sasha’s acting really was her advantage in this dance, she’s able to perform better than someone like Nikki. I think Gleb’s choreography was the setback this week. So much “messin’ about”, which is crazy because Sasha can actually dance. I don’t know what Gleb was thinking but it felt so weirdly light on dancing and more about the comedy. 9. Nick Lachey & Peta Murgatroyd - Jazz (7+7+7=21) I don’t have much to say about Nick, except he’s getting better, slowly but surely. He seems to really be enjoying himself out there with Peta. I like that he went for some humor this week, I think it’s actually one of his better dances. Len nailed it when he said they had great, concept, commitment & confidence.

10. Terrell Owens & Cheryl Burke - Salsa (7+7+7=21) This was a fun homage to break dancing, Terrell was clearly feeling it this week. His confidence in the steps & concept were clearly showing. He handled the back & forth between the hip-hop & salsa quite well, which could’ve been a disaster but it wasn’t. I liked it.

11. Jordan Fisher & Lindsay Arnold - Charleston (9+7+9=25) You know what I said about Vanessa & Lindsey, ditto again. He and Lindsey Sterling are really neck & neck right now, doesn’t mean I expect the Finals to go that way thought they probably should. Jordan is by far the best performer this season, it’s his nature. This could’ve been a mess, but it wasn’t at all. The concept was so seamlessly blended with the style of dance. The animation, the music it was perfectly packaged. It truly felt like a superhero musical short.I could go on and on about how great Jordan is, but I have to say Lindsay killed it this week, it was quite reminiscent of something Mark would’ve done. Jordan is so great, Lindsay’s choreography is the one that has to improve each week, it definitely did tonight.

DWTS S25 Week 2 Night 1 (Ballroom) Recap / Review

So much DWTS, so little time.. I got night classes every night & work.. So tomorrow’s Week 2 Night 2 recap will probably be up later on Wednesday night.. Check our last week’s recap up top or below, if you haven’t..if you have thank so much! :) xx

1. Debbie Gibson & Alan Bersten - Quickstep (7+6+7=20) I was nervous for Debbie & the quickstep knowing her physical struggles but she really showed up. The speed was great, I just knew she would get lost but she didn’t. Could have better frame, body contact & leg extension (but what do I know??).. Overall good dance & improvement over last week.

2. Nikki Bella & Artem Chigventsev - Waltz (7+7+7=21) Been while since we’ve seen a regular waltz on the show. Good on Nikki & Artem for showing versatility so early in the season, usually we get about a good 3-4 weeks with no range from most celebs, so they’re on the right track. I appreciated Nikki’s realness & inspiration this week. The dancing was adequate, it was muted nothing in your face, which was actually nice. I just wish it looked like Nikki’s face was enjoying the dance. She’s a beautiful girl but she needs to emote more. She needs a class at the Mark Ballas School of Facemaking. 

3. Lindsey Sterling & Mark Ballas - Quickstep (7+7+7=21) Lindsey is really good, really good. Mark’s choreography & concept was a great asset for them tonight. It complimented Lindsey so well. She hit all the facial accents & musical cues. I did notice when it the turns got fast, the frame and hold deflated as Bruno noted. Lindsey is in it to win it. Deserved some 8′s compared to Nikki & Artem’s, different dances but also vastly different levels of performing. 

4. Barbara Corcoran & Keo Motsepe - Tango (6+5+6=17) I love how much Barbara is enjoying the dances and Keo. It’s evident she relies on Keo, which is endearing but crippling. It was better than last week & I agree with Carrie Ann that she was more relaxed tonight still stiff at times but better. Barbara's story is really an amazing one, whether she goes the distance or not, I really hope people can take some inspiration from her struggles to successes.’

5. Nick Lachey & Peta Murgatroyd - Foxtrot (7+6+6=19) Much better than last week, I think I’m gonna like Nick in the ballroom dances more than latin. He’s still stiff but not as much as last week. They had a little mishap in the spin but it was a wardrobe thing, I don’t think Nick didn’t anything wrong or it really affected the dance as much as Bruno suggested it did. I do agree with Len that there was some apprehension in his dancing, I just think he needs to be more confident in his moves.

6. Drew Scott & Emma Slater - Quickstep (7+6+7=20) Something just compels me to root for these two (obviously, Emma but something else too). The opening sequence with just Drew on top was pretty good & promising until he got in hold. His hold & frame is gonna hold him back. I don’t know if it’s the height difference or posture but he’s got stick his butt in & firm his frame up to really impress Len. The parts out of hold were great, Drew has great stage presence, & is fun to watch, just gotta get that hold in check. 

7. Vanessa Lachey & Maksim Chmerkovskiy - Foxtrot (8+8+8=24) I love this pairing..It’s one I didn’t know I needed or wanted but I’m glad I have it. Vanessa is so naturally talented that Maks’s tutelage just puts her on a whole ‘nother playing field. He’s tough but she’s tougher. I love sultry foxtrot’s and Vanessa was living every minute of it. She emotes, she extends, she actually dances. Easily the best dance of the night & season so far. 

8. Frankie Muniz & Witney Carson - Tango (8+7+8=23) Frankie bought the fierce this week. I was not expecting the intensity & focus that he gave in this tango. They had a great Imagine Dragons song to start and some solid choreography. This was some of the better partnering from a male celeb we’ve seen tonight. I feel like Frankie is a dark horse, people aren’t expecting him to be good but he really is.

9. Terrell Owens & Cheryl Burke - Foxtrot (7+6+7=20) Ughhh, see I’m trying not let my pre-conceived opinions on T.O. affect me this season...But why did he have to throw Barbara or anyone under the bus...If you think you were underscored fine but why call anyone like that. Whatever... This foxtrot was so sultry I thought it was a rumba at first. I feel like it would’ve serviced him better if it was a rumba, because he has the fluidity for it. As a foxtrot, for me it largely fails, not enough foxtrot content (Hi, Len) too much grinding. I didn’t want to bring this up but this is a Cheryl pattern with her big sexy men, more skin and grinding than content. It’s a shame because he was actually good but it wasn’t the best representation of the dance he was given.

10. Sasha Pieterse & Gleb Savchenko - Viennese Waltz (8+8+7=23) Ooh a sultry Viennese Waltz.. This was a better example of what T.O. & Cheryl were trying to do. Merging the sexy with the traditional but not going too far in one direction. Some of my favorite choreography of the night. Great chemistry, though I do agree with Len again.. that more hold would’ve been great but Sasha is such a joy to watch. if she follows through on her hold in transition she’ll be unstoppable. 

11. Victoria Arlen & Val Chmerkovskiy - Tango (8+8+8=24) I have to remind myself that Victoria CAN’T FEEL HER LEGS.. Like seriously, you watch her dance & think “Wow that’s good & then remember her legs and think “Ohhh sh**, how is she doing this?”..like when watching Nyle Dimarco or Amy Purdy. A much sharper, cleaner dance than most of what we’ve seen tonight. As the judges mentioned the role reversal & the intensity was great. Just amazing..One of the best of the night.

Only Val could make me like Taylor Swift’s “Look What You Made Me Do”.. (Oh the things we do for our men..)

The ladies are killing it this season.. 

12. Derek Fisher & Sharna Burgess - Foxtrot (6+6+7=19) Super cute foxtrot. Loved the sets and costumes. Carrie Ann is spot on about Derek dancing small. He has personality & charisma but his dancing isn’t big enough to truly show it. His frame in hold is weak at times but I don’t think he’s going anywhere anytime soon. His mom needs to be a judge ASAP, she knows her stuff.

13. Jordan Fisher & Lindsay Arnold - Viennese Waltz (8+8+8=24) Lindsay has been such an MVP for so many seasons, she’s bound to win at some point and I think Jordan could be the one. Of all the celeb men, Jordan had best control, partnering, acting and big, broad dancing. It was a much more contemporary V. Waltz than traditional. I think Len & Carrie Ann are right, that it was so lyrical it didn’t seem to push him hard enough. Lyrical and jazz are so in his wheelhouse, that it wasn’t as impressive as it should’ve been because we know he can do that. The more he impresses with the traditional nuances of the dances he’s given, the better he looks & he already looks pretty damn good.

I honestly don’t know if I can pin-point a front funner yet.. So many good celebs this season .

Three Musketeers: Carrie Ann, Len & Bruno are back. You know as much as I love Julianne as a judge & I really do, as well as some guest judges, it’s nothing like the seeing the 3 original still kicking after 25 seasons. 

Only one judge speaking per couple, ehhh right. lol

Next Week: 2 Eliminations & 2 Dances. Monday: Ballroom Night & Tuesday: Latin Night

1.Terrell Owens & Cheryl Burke - Cha Cha (5+5+5=15)

Cheryl was the secret 13th pro, no real surprise, she’s been away for a bit, but they almost always come back (looking at you too Mark Ballas). I’m just gonna put it out there, I’m not the biggest Terrell Owens fan but I won’t let it cloud my judgement of his dancing. I actually think he could do well, DWTS loooves a tall, dark, football player with twinkly toes.. Cheryl is a good pick for him. This was a nice, standard cha-cha for a premiere nothing too exciting, he’s got rhythm & musicality. His footwork was a lot cleaner than expected, obviously could be sharper among other things. He’s kind of flat-footed, but he has the work-hard mentality that could see him trend up mid-season.

2. Debbie Gibson & Alan Bersten - Foxtrot (6+5+6=17) I’m familiar with Debbie’s long career but knowing she struggles with Lyme disease & his pushing herself to the max for this show gives me a whole a new respect for her. Alan has been busting his butt in the troupe & as a stand-in for some seasons so it’s nice to see him get a chance to show his stuff as a pro. Beautiful foxtrot to debut with, her & Alan are cute together. Debbie is very striking on the floor, there are times when she was right on it & then a little stiff and weal posture at times. I can sense a breakthrough coming. 3.Sasha Pieterse & Gleb Savchenko - Cha Cha (6+6+6=18) I have never watched Pretty Little Liars so she’s a virtual stranger to me but I predict she’ll be around for some weeks with the PLL fan-base. She seems to have fun personality. Gleb is not my favorite, he has yet to truly impress me. I think Sasha was holding back her Fierce (prepare for season long Sasha Fierce puns, it’s happening...).She seems to be comfortable out there but hopefully she’ll really let loose sooner than later. There’s a lot more there. Best footwork so far, I just wished they used more of the floor...

4. Drew Scott & Emma Slater - Foxtrot (6+5+5=16) I’m one of the 10 people that don’t watch HGTV, but I do know who the Property Brothers but I don’t have an opinion on them, except Drew is the more attractive one, don’t @ me.  What I do know is Drew got lucky getting paired with reigning champ & DWTS sweetheart Emma. Their popularity should take them far. Easily my favorite choreography of the night so far, it was charming,, on the nose, but pretty jam packed, she made him work more than any other celeb so far. Len is right, that he’s pretty clunky with his feet & hands, hopefully that can be sorted over time. I can’t be too hard on him he had more to do than a lot of celebs. 

5. Barbra Corcoran & Keo Motespe - Cha Cha (5+4+5=14) I’m probably the biggest Shark Tank fan that exist, don’t ask why I just am. So I’m super jacked to see Barabra she’s one of the best and most entertaining sharks. I hope she doesn’t get cut too soon. What can I say about this dance, except I loved every minute of it. I love seeing people live their best life, especially people of a certain age. You got money, power, respect & fame, why not live as much as you can , what’t there to lose? Barbara totally embodies that. This dance definitely had Patti Labelle “In Da Club” vibes. Of course she can greatly improve& I hope she does, but most importantly I hope she continues to have as much fun as possible. 

6. Jordan Fisher & Lindsay Arnold - Tango (8+7+7=22) I’m not a jet setting millionaire so I never saw Hamilton, so I’m not familiar but he’s with Lindsay & that’s enough for me pay attention to him. They seem poised to go really far. He’s charming, cute & has a lot of promise. This tango was fast as we’ve come to like on this show, and pretty sharp. Best footwork, choreography & partnering so far.

7. Nick Lachey & Peta Murgatoryd - Cha Cha (6+6+6=18) Obviously, Nick’s brother Drew won Season 2 with Cheryl but who cares anymore, that was back when the show was less flashy & looked like it was shot on VHS. I’m not really in the mood to hear about this “rivalry” all season. Because, we unfortunately have to focus on Nick vs his wife Vanessa with Maks this season. I was over the competing couples when Alexa Vega & Carlos Pena were on & I’m over it now. It is cute they’re respectively paired with married couple Peta & Maks. Nick is not the most rhythmic celeb, with ironic because Peta is one of the more rhythmic pro’s. He’s stiff but what he lacks in technique, he makes up for in enthusiasm. I’m sensing Vanessa might be the better dancer of the two, at least I’m hoping.

8. Vanessa Lachey & Maksim Chmerkovskiy - Cha Cha (7+7+7=21) I gotta say marriage & fatherhood looks great on Maks. I’m glad my prediction was right, Vanessa is better than Nick. She’s actually really good, one of the best of the night. Maks’ sharp footwork suited her well. Her placement is clean, swift & sharp. One of the most synced partnerships tonight, I want to see her go far.

9. Frankie Muniz & Witney Carson - Foxtrot (7+6+6=19) I haven’t heard much about Frankie since early 2000′s except his car crash some years back but he looks healthy, happy & wealthy (those Malcom in the Middle checks had to be nice). They really benefited from a great, emotional song (Sign of The Times). For someone who once broke his back you couldn’t tell, his extension was really good. To be so shy, Frankie dances very broad, he’s got a great early connection with Witney. Definitely a highlight of the night. 

10. Nikki Bella & Artem Chigventsev - Tango (7+7+6=20) Nikki is about the only name I recognize from the WWE Diva’s. It’ll be interesting to see if she can reign in her dominance to let Artem lead her. Len is absolutely right, her looking down almost ruined the dance, I thought she was uncomfortable at first then I realized she was just watching her feet. When she was in hold it was great, her legs are super long which make for great lines. She’s got great confidence & attack, can Artem contain it? 

11. Derek Fisher & Sharna Burgess - Salsa (6+6+6=18) Derek is Laker legend, I’m excited he’s paired with Sharna who plays no games. NBA players need redemption on this show, Derek might be the guy to do it. His hips & footwork will need work, I think he needs to loosen up more, but he’s super enthusiastic about the whole experience. That ending was super close, Sharna almost ate it..

12. Victoria Arlen & Val Chmerkovksiy - Cha Cha (7+6+6=19) Victoria’s story is remarkable being paralyzed for 10 years, competing in the Paralympics, winning Gold & Silver & learning to walk a year ago & now DWTS & she can’t even feel her legs. Like what are you doing with your life right now? Victoria has a winner’s spirit, she’s incredibly resilient and partner with Val that can take her a super long way. Plus she can actualy dance, there’s no sympathy card in this pairing, Val gave her some challenging choreograph, not just for her situation. The routine was fun, uplifting & matched her spirit and personality. The fact that she can’t feel her legs just blows my mind when watching her dance and sync with Val. The placement was great & clean. These two are ones to watch, she’s got a great story, she’s got Val & she’s got moves. 

13. Lindsey Sterling & Mark Ballas - (7+8+8=22) Lindsey is an incredible violinist who is no stranger to the DWTS stage, having guest performed & she’s also close friends with the Hough / Ballas family already, so this seemed like a natural pairing all around. Obviously great to have Mark and his hair back on the show, he’s a personal favorite with Val. This was by far the single best performance of the night. Quick, sharp & technically sound. Mark took a risk with that hip-hop breakdown but Lindsey murdered it. It was complete flip on what you expected from her as Len noted, something Mark is good for. She’s such a natural and exuberant performer & Mark is such a seasoned pro, it’s a match made in heaven. Honestly, I believe Mark has been robbed many times (Chelsea Kane, Katherine Jenkins, Paige Vanzant) it would be nice to see him win his so long overdue 3rd mirrorball trophy & Lindsey might just be the partner to get it done. Tied for the top with Jordan & Lindsay

Honestly it’s so many celebs that I enjoyed Week 1, I can’t honestly imagine what 2 I would want go home next week.

DWTS S25 Pro Dancers Revealed

Happy Summer August Fall! Been a really long time since I been on this blog needed a summer break from this show since it consumes 6 months of the year, but the break has actually got me excited about the return of DWTS.. The pro dancers for S25 was just announced today on GMA.. The full cast of celebs should be revealed next week Sept. 6th on GMA

1. Mark Ballas - is back! 2. Emma Slater 3. Lindsay Arnold 4. Keo Motsepe 5. Val Chmerkovskiy 6. Gleb Savchenko 7. Artem Chigventsev 8. Maksim Chmerkovskiy 9. Peta Murgatroyd 10. Alan Bersten - First time as pro! 11. Witney Carson 12. Sharna Burgess

Nothing too surprising, it is nice to see Mark back after some time off, no Sasha unfortunately this season, I’m excited for Alan to step up as pro. Always glad to see Val, Sharna, Peta & Lindsay. Pretty solid reliable line-up. I’ll be watching & recapping as usual...

As far as the celeb cast goes, reportedly Drew Scott of HGTV's "Property Brothers" is joining the cast & Nikki Bella, star of E!'s "Total Divas" and "Total Bellas," will also be competing. I don’t watch either of their programs so I’m indifferent about them. We’ll find out the full cast next week on GMA.

Congratulations to the Season 24 Champions of DWTS!! They both deserve it, whether it was them or Normani & Val, I would’ve been happy. I’m so so proud & happy for Emma. She’s long paid her dues on this show & she took a great opportunity & partner & ran with it all the way.They both really deserve it.

I can’t ignore how messed up Normani & Val placing 3rd truly is. A real travesty, she should’ve at least placed 2nd. She got Chelsea Kane’d..

I wish they did redemption dance and fusion dance on night one of the finale and then the freestyle on the second night. I feel the freestyle is a great way to cap off the season instead of 24 hour fusion, which isn't anything special IMO.

DWTS S24 Week 10 FINALS Recap / Review

I think we’ve said everything we could about these 3, we know everything we need to know, we’re rooting for who we’re rooting for. I don’t really think this week’s dances will change what I think will be the outcome to much, unless someone someone literally falls on their face or sets the place on fire. It’s really just a countdown to the results. I think Dave is pretty much a lock for 3rd. As much as I think Normani has the edge, Rashad is immeasurably close competition. Neither outcome would surprise me. But Normani has been so fire from Week 1 without few down weeks if any. I hope it's not a Katherine Jenkins / Zendaya situation.. idkkk

1. David Ross & Linday Arnold 

Redemption Dance: Vienesse Waltz (8+8+8=33) David is absolutely the most improved celeb this season. Compared to Week, he has a lot more control over his movements, the transitions & Lindsay. It was a sweet earnest dance, he is still heavy footed but who cares at this point.. lolol

Freestyle: (10+10+10+10=40) David & Lindsay's freestyle is just a big Cubs version of their fun high energy hip hop influenced dances. ..Again won't change a damn thing but on brand, which is pure joy & fun.

SN: It’s nice when likable people like David make it a lot further than anyone ever expected over “sure things” like Simone Biles or maybe even Candace Cameron Bure over Amy Purdy, because they are what the show was initially supposed to be about. BUT the show is truthfully never about that once the finale hits, because it’s really about top dog eats top top dog. In this case Normani vs. Rashad. What I’m taking forever to say is, while it seems like it’s noble that weaker dancers advance this far, it’s really stripped away when they’re standing next to such obvious forces like Rashad & Normani, & they are destined for 3rd place. As Len basically said to Bonner, don’t overstay your welcome. The longer Bonner went on the worse he looked. As much as I like David, it would’ve been nice to see a final 3 that is competition from top to bottom (S23 is actually a rare example) because that’s really what it boils down to anyway. 3rd place just becomes a throw away situation.

This is just a side thought, not a criticism of David & Lindsay

2. Normani Kordei & Val Chmerkovskiy

Redemption - Quickstep (10+9+10+10=39) I don’t even remember Normani & Val’s first quickstep that could be commentary on the dance itself or my own memory. Heck I barely remember Erika Jayne competing this season. This was a FAST quickstep. Truthfully, as much as I loved this dance, I think it was too fast. The minute I saw the lack of body contact & (kinda messy) swinging kick turns, I knew Len would call it out for being hectic. I would watch it again tho, which in-itself is an improvement over the first one.

Freestyle (10+10+10+10=40) Yessss, this dance is so beautiful in the purest & most earnest way. The kids were a nice touch without feeling like a gimmick. Normani & Val's freestyle is such welcome change from the "emotional" contemporary freestyle that all start too look alike. It's hard too make "emotional" freestyles stand out & not seem cheesy, boring or repetitive without going too big & over the top to be noticed but they did it. They really could have a went a variety of ways for this dance, 

I wonder after seeing Rashad & Emma’s freestyle if the tone will hurt or help. They’re both perfect in completely different ways.

3. Rashad Jennings & Emma Slater 

Redemption - Viennese Waltz (10+10+10+10=40) Rashad easily had the most improved dance this round. His footing & partnering was stronger & more grounded. 

Freestyle (10+10+10+10=40) Something told me Rashad might “Donald Driver”, Normani & Val. Meaning produce a spectacle freestyle while the others focused more on dancing. Donald & Peta won S14 over Katherine Jenkins & Mark Ballas after a cowboy freestyle, & it shifted the outcome possibly. Katherine & Mark bested the competition the entire season, 10′s on 9′s on 10′s but their freestyle was perfect but maybe predictable & he won. I wonder if Rashad might have done same thing. The difference thought is Rashad is a better dancer & his freestyle had a lot more dancing in than Donald’s. His freestyle was truly that, fun, big, loud, he was front & center hitting every move with flair.  If Normani does have the edge, his freestyle is the only thing that could shift gears.

In a perfect world (at least for me), David should be going home tonight & Normani, SImone & Rashad are our Top 3 finalists.)

1, Normani Kordei & Val Chmerkovskiy

Judges Choice: Len Goodman - Viennese Waltz (9+9+9+9=36) Only Normani & Val could marry a V. Waltz with Rihanna’s “Desperado”. If these two don’t win, I will honestly be shocked. They’re just so consistent. Julianne said it best, they dance as one. Absolutely one of the most connected couples of all time on this show. Rashad is their only real competition for the win at this point & I think they still have the edge. I think Heather & Maks would’ve made these last 2 weeks more competitive but I didn’t see her ever overtaking these two.

Jazz (10+10+10+10=40) Packed with content, energy, technique, personality, chemistry. What is there to say that hasn’t been said. This girl is a star, & will go down as being one the best dancers & having one the best runs ever on DWTS.  Obviously Normani is the best dancer but her personality & humility has made her one of the most likable & easiest to root for

2. David Ross & Lindsay Arnold

Judges Choice Round: Julianne Hough - Foxtrot (9+8+9+8=34) If this is David & Lindsay’s last week (which it should be), they’ll definitely go out on a high. Their foxtrot, I thought was actually quite nice. It was smooth, no bumps, he tucked his butt in as Julianne advised. For celebs who truly aren’t dancers, David is one of the best, I don’t feel angry that he’s made it this far because he’s a joy to watch. He’s completely defied expectations. His dances are always light & high-spirited.

Tango (9+9+9+9=36) This dance wasn’t perfect, his butt was poked all the way out, his frame was kind of weird but that’s the thing about David, he tries so hard & he’s so likable, his weakness don’t seem so bad. I’ve loved watching David, he really is what this show is about. He wasn’t a dancer, but he committed to the process, his partner & the overall experience, he made the most of it and just had fun. That’s all you can really ask of any celeb. Lindsay is consistently a reliable pro, hopefully her time in the winner’s circle is coming soon.

3. Simone Biles & Sasha Farber

Judges Choice Round: Carrie Ann Inaba - Jive (10+10+10+10=30) Carrie Ann was the perfect judge for Simone & Sasha. Obviously she’s the been the most hard on Simone’s emoting skills. Carrie Ann actually spending time with Simone, really helped her find that alter ego and just let loose. She killed that jive, no kick or flick out of place. We know it’s not the dancing that Simone lacks, it was just that perfectionist veneer that made her hard to connect to. I think understanding how to dance “perfectly” but still have fun made all the difference in this dance.

SN: I actually really love Carrie Ann. Her giggly but stern drunk aunt spirit speaks to me

Rumba: (10+10+10+10=40) This week, especially in this rumba, Simone has finally come full circle, in her journey. Easily, the most emotionally connected I’ve seen Simone & Sasha all season. That was the performance everyone wanted to see from her. I think last week feeling so defeated but the judges constant criticism of her, set her up for a breakthrough. Meeting with Carrie Ann probably made her realize they’re not picking on her, they just see something more that’s she wasn’t giving us. I still feel she’s destined for a 3rd place finish (if she advances) because Rashad & Normani have been consistently more engaging but I think & hope her breakthrough makes the finals more competitive.

Judges Choice Round: Bruno Tonioli - Rumba (9+9+10+10=38) Bruno helped Rashad work on his fluidity, it really showed in this rumba. Bruno was so spot on about how the ball players have that catchers mitt / paw when they dance. This was the most fluid Rashad has ever dance, he followed through all of his lines, something he hasn’t done consistently. His sincerity when he dances with Emma really sets him apart from the other contestants.

Quickstep: (10+9+10+10=39) Len is crazy. Rashad killed that quickstep, he nailed the solo in the beginning AND the partnering with Emma. His hold has greatly improved, he really is the full package.

SImone & Sasha - Eliminated - Man this sucks. I think she had her breakthrough one week too late. I wondered after last week if her “attitude” with the judges last week might have put off voters, even though it wasn’t hard to sympathize with her. Once again Sasha is robbed of a deserving finals finish.

David & Lindsay - SAFE

If I had to call the finals,  Normani & Val (1st), Rashad & Emma (2nd), David & Lindsay (3rd). I don’t see how this should end up any other way but STRANGER THINGS…

What do you think about David & Lindsay making the finals over Simone & Sasha? How do you think the Top 3 will place?

I feel that the judges are biased towards Simone. I mean yeah no denying she can dance but last night's dance wasn't deserving of higher scores than nick. To me, Simone isn't the best. I feel the judges favor her over the rest. Nick did amazing last night! He's grown so much since the beginning as a dancer and is really trying and succeeding. He should've got all 8's. Those judges are not being fair. What's your take on any favoritism or underscoring?

I don’t think the judges ever favored Simone, in fact maybe the opposite. Her dancing was never an issue, & I think the judges just could never deny that with their scores but she was lacking a human element, that only dropped her a few points, had she had the whole package, she would be getting Normani scores. As much as I liked Nick, I don’t think he ever danced better than Simone, but I did think they were quite picky of him throughout the season & underscoring him consistently, compared to Bonner who I thought was over praised & over scored a lot..

Yeah but I actually liked the twist of the judges choosing their trio partners. They see things from the outside that can challenge them in ways they don’t see for themselves, I guess. I like when the judges are involved with the couples.

This week the pro’s get to pick the dance style & song they feel best represents their celeb in the 1st round. The trio round the judges choose the pro dancer for each couple.

INDIVIDUAL DANCES (Pro’s Pick)

1. Rashad Jennings & Emma Slater - Jive (9+9+9+9=36 ) Rashad & Emma have one of the best DWTS partnerships. They really trust & respect each other and it shows completely in every dance. There’s nothing forced about their chemistry. Their jive while it wasn’t technically their best, it was fun & enthusiastic & I can see why Emma chose it for Rashad. I wonder if nerves just got the best of him, knowing it’s coming down to the wire & he still got some strong competition in Normani (as he noted in the package). I have a feeling his AT trio will leave more of an impression.

2. Normani Ko hrdei & Val Chmerkovskiy - Contemporary (10+10+10+10=40) Val choreographed a very powerful piece representing Normani’s strength & resilience in such an exposed & vulnerable public life.This pro design-a-dance is genius. We really get a sense of how much the pro adores their celeb. Val is so mesmerized & invested in Normani as a person. He has always worn his appreciation for his partner on his sleeve & it’s clear he has this girl on a pedestal, it’s really sweet to witness.  I’ve been wanting to see Normani do a more free form style of dance like Contemporary. She has amazing control even in the most chaotic moves. The side by side with Val was perfect. The emotion was raw, never felt forced. Just as I said about Rashad & Emma, Normani & Val’s partnership is one for the books. Val has always wore his appreciation for his partner on his sleeve & it’s clear he has this girl on a pedestal & it’s really sweet to witness.

3. Bonner Bolton & Sharna Burgess - Argentine Tango (8+7+8+7=30) It’s really hard to keep judging Bonner’s dances because your just gonna keep saying the same thing. He really dances the same quality in every dance, some just look better than others probably due to Sharna’s choreography.  Honestly, I think Bonner’s lack of real improvement is even more glaring cause the judges kind of gassed him in dances he was just “Eh” in.

4. Simone Biles & Sasha Farber - Foxtrot (9+9+9+9=36) Sasha really wants Simone to be more comfortable with who she is & confident in her strength & beauty. Again it’s another really sweet sentiment from a pro to a celeb.  Sasha & Simone’s foxtrot was cute. I don’t think it was their best or most exciting. Something about it just didn’t flow. I’m still rooting for these two. I really feel for Simone cause she can give something she doesn’t have yet emotionally. I don’t see Simone winning at all but I think they still have more to show. 

5. David Ross & Lindsay Arnold - Waltz (9+9+9+9=36) The partnerships this season are some of the strongest. David & Lindsay have this father-daughter type partnership. At first I thought their waltz was going be kind of schmaltzy & cheesy but I’m glad I was wrong. How could I ever doubt Lindsay? There was something very subtle but deep about their waltz. It’s obvious David really wants to learn the technique of these dances & it shows in his footwork. He’s never quite perfect but no glaring mistakes either. David’s versatility is amazing. I’m so glad he got Lindsay, she didn’t pigeon hole him into being the comedy dad dancer of the season.  

TRIOS (Judge’s Pick)

6. Rashad, Emma & Witney Carson - Argentine Tango (10+9+10+10=39)  Rashad seamlessly partnered both Emma & Witney. I’m glad Julianne noted he adjusted to the different energy with each girl. It had this silent seduction feel to the whole dance. You could almost hear a pin drop. Of course Len is the hold out on their long-deserved perfect score.. Of course.

7. Normani, Val & Alan Bersten - Jive (10+9+10+10=39)  I was nervous when I saw the country theme for their jive. I usually never really like those dances or theme’s for some reason. Normani really sold it for me. There was so many changes in style & partner & placing but she never got lost in the mix or missed a step. Her kicks & flicks were sharp & synced with Val & Alan. I knew Len would poo-poo the judges table section & he’s right that it wastes time but honestly, this dance had so much content on the floor it’s forgivable & makes sense to the theme & to add another layer of fun. If there was more line dancing than jive I would be agree but there wasn’t.

8. Bonner, Sharna & Britt Stewart - Jazz (7+7+7+7=28) This is a borderline racy trio, reminds me of Tommy Chong’s flight attendant trio with Peta & Sharna. It’s not over any real line but you’re kind of like did it need to go there at all. I feel for Sharna cause she’s kind of grasping at straws with Bonner at this point. You don’t want to overload him with technique that you know he just can’t handle but the dance has to seem challenging to some degree. The floor work was actually one of the best parts but he’s still awkward in so many other parts. He might be trying but Bonner doesn’t have anything left for us to see, it’ll be a real shame if she stays over someone with more potential.

9. Simone, Sasha & Brittany Cherry - Paso Doble (9+9+9+9=36) I hate when dances are stylistically similar to past ones because it’s hard to judge it for what it is. This trio paso had the same galactic motif that Alfonso, Witney & Lindsay’s paso had. Which makes it pale in comparison. It just felt flat, it pains me say this cause I really like this couple. The dancing was great, that’s obviously not the issue. You could see on her face that she wasn’t really happy, like you can see in Normani’s face even in a serious dance. Clearly, Simone is blanking on the judges comments at this point. She doesn’t really know how to apply them. So they probably feel nit picky and I think she feels defeated and she’s dancing like it unfortunately.

Simone may seem devoid of emotion & stuck. But there’s something quite intriguing & compelling about long suffering Olympic gymnasts’ “emoting” narrative on this show, cause you know it’s not their fault, it’s their habit. Someone can overcome it (Nastia & Aly), some don’t.

10. David, Lindsay & Hayley Erbert - Paso Doble (7+7+8+7=29) I loved the theatrics & drama of this paso, David looked possessed . Compared to what we’ve seen from him, it was quite clunky & heavy footed and his shaping & posture was off. His attack & commitment to the character carried him through this one. I agree that the probably put more focus this week into his waltz & it showed.

I think the Top 3 is a lock, what I predicted in the beginning, Rashad, Simone & Normani. It’s just a matter of who places where. As much as I like David, I think  next week is & should be his last. He’s good but no match for the rest.

Week 8 Trios - Quarterfinals

Julianne Hough is back in 3rd judging position

This week the pro’s get to pick the dance style & song they feel best represents their celeb in the 1st round. The trio round the judges choose the pro dancer for each couple.

INDIVIDUAL DANCES (Pro’s Pick)

1. Rashad Jennings & Emma Slater - Jive (9+9+9+9=36 ) Rashad & Emma have one of the best DWTS partnerships. They really trust & respect each other and it shows completely in every dance. There’s nothing forced about their chemistry. Their jive while it wasn’t technically their best, it was fun & enthusiastic & I can see why Emma chose it for Rashad. Individual Dances

1. Bonner Bolton & Sharna Burgess - Paso Doble [Western] (7+7+8+7=29) This was the most animated I think Bonner has danced all season. Him & Simone kind of share the same emoting dilemma but for different reasons. Simone has been trained to be composed on stage no matter what, whereas Bonner just doesn’t seem to have many more notches to his personality. There are still so many weaknesses in his dancing but I appreciated his commitment & effort. Carrie Ann is right that there wasn’t much dancing. 

2. Nancy Kerrigan & Artem Chigventsev - Tango [Romance] (9+9+9+9=36)   Loved Artem’s choreography of  this tango. It had speed & flow but it wasn't rushed. There was an actual story told, as Mandy noted. I once again agree with Carrie that her arms get ungraceful in turn but overall, this was a really good performance.

3. Simone Biles & Sasha Farber - Charleston [Silent Movie] (10+9+9+9=37+2=39) Simone is giving me flashbacks to Terra Jole in this dance. That's a GREAT thing. That Charleston was killer, so fast, bouncy & difficult. Sasha is always great with choreographing to his partners strengths. So happy to see Simone showing more & more personality in these dances, cause it's I know it's difficult & so mental for her. 

4. Nick Viall & Peta Murgatroyd - Argentine Tango [Action] (8+8+9+9=34) I’ve really grown to root for Nick this season. I appreciate his commitment & growth over time. This was the first time it looked like Nick was leading Peta. There were weak moments with his hold but can see the improvement in his footwork & performance. At times he looked physically uncomfortable but now knowing he has a slight injury makes a lot of sense

5. Rashad Jennings & Emma Slater - Paso Doble [Horror] (9+9+10+9=37+2=39) I love the fact that Rashad actually wrote the story for their paso doble. He’s so fully committed to this process & partnership. You can tell that Emma trusts him completely. This is a very dynamic dance & story & Rashad’s performance matched the intensity perfectly. I once again agree with Carrie Ann, that his posture was off at times, he was leading with his hips a lot, which threw his lines off. If he can fix that he’ll be impossible to crtiique

6. David Ross & Lindsay Arnold - Salsa [Sci-Fi] (8+8+8+8=32)  Fun robotic salsa with a healthy does of hip hop. David has surprisingly good hip hop instincts, he has the moves & timing. His sync with Lindsay was great. Robotic moves can be hard to nail. The only negative is that it seem like he was going through the motions but with no real life. Mandy is 100% right about him needing more pep in his steps, they’re placed right but have no life or sense of urgency. I was surprised they didn’t get knocked more for not enough salsa.

7. Normani Kordei & Val Chmerkovskiy - Argentine Tango [Foreign Film] (10+10+10+10=40+3= 43)  It’s a rule of thumb that I always Iook forward to Val’s Argentine Tangos no matter what.  This AT is perfect in every possible way, technically, stylistically, the acting, the chemistry. She really dances well beyond her years. Naturally, Val nailed the choreography but Normani actually lived it. She physically embodied the character & dance. The best dance of the season.
