Bad Gamer: The Last of Us
Bad Gamer is where I come to admit my failings as a console gamer and where I pledge to make it right.
Naughty Dog's The Last of Us was one of the biggest games of 2013. It sold over 3 million copies in just it's first week out. It has been hailed as a masterpiece and is the recipient of many awards. The art I've seen for it is hauntingly beautiful. And it supposedly hits a player on an emotional level. This game should be sitting on my "never going to trade" shelf at this very moment. But it is not and that is where I fall into Bad Gamer territory.
I have not played this game. I read all of the hype. I had the time. I even wanted to play it, but I didn't.
Ok, so, why didn't you play it?
Honestly? I am a fraidy cat. The Last of Us falls into a gaming category that I tend to avoid- Survival Horror. In my entire video game life (20+ years) I've only played two or three survival horror games and I only remember ever completeing one. Resident Evil 3: Nemesis.
I still shudder when I think about trying to get away from Nemesis. I had to have all of the lights in the house on and my grandmother in the room with me when I played that game. The last survival horror game I tried to play was Resident Evil 4 on the Nintendo Gamecube. My brothers raved about it, but the mood of the game was way too creepy and I like to sleep, so I noped out. I don't think I lasted 30 minutes.
But I feel The Last of Us supercedes my fraidy cat-ness and should be played. So, I am pledging to play The Last of Us until completion within the next three months (hey, gotta be realistic).
Welp, so long, sleep and peace of mind.
The Last of Us is available for the PS3
