Butting Horns
A simple text, short of 200 characters; that’s all it took. The message was simple, a place to meet, and with his rolex fastened along with his car waiting downstairs, Dane was off to meet up with no one other than Jude Castillo. The Books as Dane calls him behind his back, was the left hand man or would it be right hand man? Really the young visionary gunning for the top should know this, yet regardless Jude was the brains behind most operations. The calculator, the one who handled accounts on top of accounts, a paper pusher, the lap dog of the infamous Desmond Beaumont. Frankly Dane would feel sorry for him if he didn’t seem content, let alone efficient. As much as they two weren’t different, they shared some level of respect since both of their worlds floated between the same gravitational pull---so to speak. They both had common enemies and common goals. Both had time to make money off one another... So when Dane got the message all he saw was chance to cash in, work his way up, or at least get a free drink off of Jude.
Thirty minutes passed by between traffic lights and congestion; it was terrible to drive through downtown on a night like this but Dane stayed patient. He focused on his phone, while his other hand nursed a glass of chardonnay. His eyes kept trying to read through the text, to see if there was picture as to why Jude was summoning him so late---while in the fashion that was so cloak and dagger. Honestly he’d expect this from Faye, but not for him. Either way the car rolled up in front of the bar, it’s neon lights glinted against the limo’s windows while he swung open the door to exit.
“Bosley, I’ll be here for a good hour, just circle around and don’t go far.” he spoke firmly.
With that he entered, lending his coat to the man in the front while he moved passed a few drunk bankers and their mistresses toward Jude. The dim light shaped around his body, as he sat alone in the back corner booth. His frames hung slightly down his noise, causing Dane to smirk at how handsome he could be if he wasn’t so meek. “Castillo, my man.” he brazenly spoke while approaching, “Two shots of tequila please.” waving at the bar tender before sitting. “Long time no see....”
