I don’t know you so I didn’t have a bloody clue as to what to get you. So um, here. Merry Christmas.
From someone you don’t know AKA Secret bloody Santa
Cassidy watched as the smile spread across his face, it was something she hadn’t seen for a long time, at least a smile like that.. Chewing on her bottom lip softly she watched him as they walked together. It was a strange feeling of comfortability and although Cassidy was still terrified, the feeling was a little duller than it had been before. She glanced around at the shop they came to a stop at, she couldn’t help but wonder why on earth they were at a rentals place. “What?” she smiled as he smirked at her, following him outside. Their hands disconnected as he climbed onto the bike and she couldn’t help but watch him for a second, smiling gently and shaking her head at the stupid grin that had crossed his features once more. In that moment, when he was smiling at her like that, she knew. Her heartbeat picked up in pace and her palms felt clammy but she fought against every fibre in her being as she walked straight over to him, cupping his face gently in her hands she “i..” she hesitated slightly, but shook it off “I love you Dylan..” she whispered, this time she didn’t drop eye contact, she forced herself to keep looking at him - not dropping his gaze. Unable to force any more words out, she figured it would be enough, that he would know how hard it had been to say.Â
Dylan’s grin turned to a look of confusion when Cassidy didn’t get on the bike straight away and instead moved closer to him and held his face in her hand. His green orbs watched her carefully as she started to speak then hesitated, his chest tightening. I what? That one word could have literally lead to anything, but as she continued speaking he knew he had nothing to worry about. Those four words made his heart swell with happiness, and a bright grin pulled at his lips. He knew it was a big deal for her to say that to him, for her to admit it, but hearing it made him so goddamn happy. Unable to say anything, Dylan reached up to place his hand behind her neck, gently pulling her closer and pressing his lips against hers. The kiss was gentle and warm and everything he was feeling inside, but after a few seconds he pulled back and smiled up at her. “Come on, let’s find that privacy,” he said gently. “And for the record, I love you too.”Â
“I don’t get the excitement around christmas, at my place it usually ends in my parents wanting to kill each other and my brother not even showing up in the first place because he’s way too drunk or stoned somewhere - honestly i’m so glad i’ll be alone in the city” Â
“As much as you want to be alone in the city I might just have to drag you home with Ev and I. Cool? Cool.”Â
Cassidy’s arms instinctively wrapped around his neck, holding onto him. As he pulled back she looked up at him, smiling softly as she did “I didn’t even notice..” she admitted “Can we go somewhere?” she asked, pressing her lips briefly to his once more “Can we just go somewhere away from here for a bit.. Please?” she asked. She hadn’t let herself fall into someone like this since they’d first met and right now, being around so many people wasn’t what she wanted. She just needed to be away, even for an hour.Â
Dylan smiled softly at her as she spoke, his grin widening. “I have the perfect place,” he murmured, pressing a soft kiss against her lips once more before he linked his fingers with hers and started walking down the street. It was only a short walk to where he wanted to go, but before long they were at a rental vehicle place. Keeping his hand linked with Cassidy’s he walked inside and headed straight towards the counter and renting one of their bikes. After being handed over the keys he smirked down at Cassidy and gave her hand a gentle squeeze before walking outside to where the man at the register said the bike he had hired was waiting for them. “Let’s do this,” he grinned, kissing her cheek before he hopped on the bike and waited for her to get on behind him.Â
All she needed was even just once. Even if it was just that, even if it was just once. As he spoke? Her eyes fell closed. She didn’t feel like she needed to say anything else or explain herself or anything like that.. so instead she opened her eyes briefly and just whispered. “okay..” before his lips pressed to hers. Cassidy’s hand moved gently to rest in the back of his hair as she kissed him back deeply, moving in closer again. It had been a long time since she had allowed herself to get this close to him and honestly? it terrified her. But at the same time.. it felt normal
Dylan smiled into the kiss as she deepened it, his arms snaking around her waist and pulling her closer. It had been so long since they had both been this relaxed around each other, and it made him unbelievably calm. After a few long seconds he pulled back slightly, resting his forehead against hers. “We should probably slow down considering we’re in public,” he murmured.Â

“It’s pretty hard…”
Cassidy could feel her chest tighten, in that all too familiar way it always had when he carried that look on his face. It was a mixture of pain and… something. She knew that she was hurting him and she knew that she would continue to for as long as he stuck around. She looked back up at him, even as he kept his gaze low she looked at him. The two of them standing in complete silence. Cassidy’s eye’s snapped closed for a few moments as she took a deep breath, before opening her eyes once more, taking a small half step closer to him. She waited for a short moment before she lifted his chin softly to look at her. The tears in her eyes still taunting the girl, threatening to spill down her cheeks, she let out a shaky breath, leaning into him, so her forehead gently rested against his “Just..” she started to speak “Forget everything just.. forget it all..” she nodded “Can we just.. do this..” she whispered “One more time…” she nodded.Â
As she stepped closer, Dylan kept his face turned away, that was until he felt her petite hand touch his chin, making him look at her. He stared own at her, green eyes full of all sorts of emotion. As she leaned in, his hands moved up to rest on her hips. He stayed silent for a few seconds as her words registered then very slowly, a tiny smile pulled at his lips and he nodded once. “I’m yours..” he whispered back. “As long as you’ll have me, until you get sick of me, I’m yours..” he murmured, leaning in slightly to close the gap between their lips and gently press his against hers.Â
Cassidy couldn’t hold eye contact, she physically couldn’t hold eye contact with him, even as he cupped her face in his hands. She couldn’t.. hearing him say things like that scared her. “Dylan, i’m only going to let you down..” she whispered because thats what she knew would inevitably happen. She let her hand fall from his cheek. She didn’t know what else she could say to him.. she could only warn him so many times.. “i hope so, for your sake..” she whispered, almost inaudibly.Â
Dylan continued to look down at her, fighting with everything he had not to just let his heart sink and give up. There was only so much he could say to convince her he wasn’t going anywhere and that he didn’t care if she hurt him as long as he had her he was happy. He rolled his lips inwards before finally lowering his gaze and turning his face.
Cassidy’s eyes remained closed for a moment “Dylan.. I” she paused. Honestly. She didn’t know what to say. There was so many things rushing through her head and so many of them, she wouldn’t allow herself to say yet. Instead she stayed silent, looking up at him “You deserve better than watching me crumble..” she whispered “you deserve better than someones who scared to say they love you, whose scared to let you in..” she bit down on her bottom lip to stop it from trembling. “I’m so fucked up dylan.. I’m so screwed up.. and you deserve better than that.. i don’t want you to fall apart with me..” she let out a small shaky breath, letting her hand rest against his cheek softly, trying to stop her eyes from welling up once more “.. honestly, you deserve someone whose going to give you the world.. and i’m just an ocean you’re going to drown in..”Â
Dylan pulled back slightly to look down at her, shaking his head and cupping her face gently. “Don’t tell me what I deserve. I don’t care about that, all I care about is you,” he replied softly. “I don’t care how fucked up you are, I’m not looking for someone who’s perfect.” he added, lowering his hands as she reached up to touch his cheek. Her last sentence made him smile a crooked smile. “Well you know, I’ve always been pretty good at swimming,” he murmured.Â
Cassidy reached up to wipe her eyes, cursing herself as she did. She hated being emotional in front of others it made her feel stupid, weak even. Usually.. she probably would’ve shrugged the hug off but this time she didn’t “I don’t want to feel anymore..” she whispered, shutting her eyes to avoid the tears “I would rather be numb..” she let out a shaky breath. “I don’t get it.. you.. you have feelings for me.. caine likes me too and i just.. don’t get it..” she shook her head “it’s like you don’t realise..” she whispered “I’m destined to self destruct..” she whispered “I have always been the disaster waiting to crumble..”Â
“I have feelings for you.. because I got to know you, and I fell for all the things you don’t realize you are. You’re my best friend Cassie. The one who used to sneak out of class with me, the one who went to prom with me and saved me from Chrissy who ending up throwing up on the guy she did end up taking. I have never, been as close to anyone other than immediate family than I have to you, that’s why I was stupid enough to fall for you.” he said, sighing softly. “Being numb is only a temporary fix, it won’t last forever.. and I know you are, but I guess I’m destined to be here when that happens. No matter what, I’ll always be here for you.”Â
“When will you understand Dylan..” she shook her head, letting out a sigh “I’m not scared of you.. I’m not scared of getting hurt by you..” she squeezed her eyes shut for a few moments, she didn’t mean to sound aggressive or angry. So she let herself breathe for just a few moments before she opened her eyes once more “I’m scared because i know.. i’m going to hurt anyone that is stupid enough to love me..” she whispered, swallowing the lump in her throat. tears building in the back of her eyes “I’m scared.. because feeling.. feeling scares me..” she whispered “I’m scared because.. there’s you and i’m just always going to..” she shook her head, cutting herself off “i’m scared because i feel a lot at the moment.. in different ways.. you and caine.. and hera.. and theo.. and it feels like you’re all breaking down my wall” she heard her own voice crack and frowned, “And.. I built that wall…I built it for a reason..” she shook her head, too scared to look up at him “i don’t know what i want dylan..” her voice was shaky, tears threatening to spill past her eyes “I really.. don’t know what i want..” she frownedÂ
Dylan glanced away for a second, looking back up at her quickly when she said she was scared of him hurting her. As always, he stayed completely silent, lettng her talk and get everything out before he spoke, but right now her words had left  him speechless. Her shaky tone of voice and the tears that pooled in her eyes made him stand up quickly, stepping closer to her he pulled her against him and wrapped his arms around her. “I’ll never hurt you.. you know I’ll never hurt you.. and feelings.. they’re inevitable Cassie. It’s not good for you to try and shut them out, as hard as you try to, and I know you try hard. You’re the strongest girl I know, but if you build your wall so high that no one can get anywhere close you’re just setting yourself up for self destruction..” he mumbled, resting his chin on top of her head. “Don’t isolate yourself love.. because you’re the greatest thing that ever happened to me and I can’t stand to see you fade away.”Â
“-oof. Alex you elephant. G’off. “Â
Cassidy felt guilty for hurting him, for hurting everyone she had and lately.. she had felt nothing short of screwed up. Mentally, Emotionally.. just in every way possible. She dropped her gaze from his “You’re right you know..” she whispered, folding her arms over her chest “I’m scared..” she laughed humourlessly, avoiding looking at him “I’m scared of being my parents.. I’m scared of being my brother..” she whispered “I’m scared of hurting people.. I’m scared of opening up.. I’m scared of letting people in..” she nodded “I’m scared of feeling anything.. I’m scared of feeling” she brushed her fingers through her hair “I’m scared of everything dylan..” she whispered “Even now.. just standing here.. I.. I’m terrified”Â
As Cassidy started talking, Dylan stared at the ground for a few long seconds, eventually finding the strength to lift his gaze. Everything she was telling him was nothing he hadn’t already known, but it was a huge step that she was admitting it.  “You don’t have to be scared of me Cassie..” he murmured. “I’m not.. some demon or monster that’s going to hurt you, any feelings I have for you, is on me, not you.” he said gently, running his hands over his face. “I don’t know what I can do Cass. Just tell me what you want from me. You know what I want, you know I want you, but I can’t keep running around blind.”Â
Alex felt himself being lowered into a chair, trying to get his breathing back to normal. He didn’t want to go into shock, it would only end badly - but all he could feel was cold sweat drenching his body as well as the all too noticeable tremble his body had, Alex only gave a half nod in return, gripping onto Dylan as he kneeled before him. He just needed to know soemone was there, someone familiar and that cared. Wincing as he felt someone touch the wound on his faceÂ
Dylan continued to grip onto Alex’s arms, his eyes watching carefully as the medics started gently applying things to the burn on his face. As soon as the boy winced, Dylan looked back at his eyes, giving his arms a gentle squeeze. “Hey, I know it hurts okay, but you’re tough, and you’re going to get through this. I’m going to help you Alex, but just try and breathe nice deep breaths for me okay?”Â
