Your showing up does have a nice nostalgic symmetry. Style points.
from the table in the corner they could see a world reborn
“Of course, none of this really works onscreen without Jason Segel’s astounding, pitch-perfect performance. The degree of difficulty here, really, is off the charts; there are a hundred different ways Segel could have failed, miserably, and taken the entire film down with him. That he doesn’t, that he actually captures David Foster Wallace—the lumbering physicality and Midwestern drawl, the recursive self-consciousness and subtle internal machinations, the various shades of Wallace’s persona and affectations—without making him a caricature or offering up an SNL impression of him, is remarkable. Nothing, really, in Segel’s past performances (with the possible exception of his early work on Freaks and Geeks) spoke to the possibility of this type of nuanced, lived-in performance.”

The End of the Tour (2015)
Dir: James Ponsoldt
The End of the Tour (2015) When I think of this trip I see David and me in a front seat of his car. We are both so young. He wants something better than he has, I want precisely what he has already. Neither of us knows where our lives are going to go. It smells like chewing tobacco, soda, and smoke. And the conversation is the best one I ever had. David thought books existed to stop you from feeling lonely. If I could I'd say to David that living those days with him reminded me of what life is like, instead of being a relief from it. And I'd tell him it made me feel much less alone.
