The security and safety challenges of smart cities are an area of hot discussion and it seems everyone has an opinion on it. So it's surprising that most technical research on smart-cities isn't addressing cyber security adequately in their design or only as an afterthought. And anyway aren't such things better left to a security specialist (poor sods who are left to provide a best-effort approach, almost like trying to tune a French car, or putting sprinkles on dog poo).
