"Newsflash: We are halfway around the world." She smirked, quirking a brow in the process. “And I still got to it. Face it, I’m unstoppable."
"I meant halfway across the world form your given location," Danny said with a good-natured eyeroll. "So, in this case, that'd be.... England, roughly. Since America is just a stone's throw away if you flatten out the earth." He shrugged, picking up the discarded and dented cans.
"Maybe you should’ve had a better foundation then," She grinned an innocent smile, “Not my fault the architect sucks."
"Well the architect never graduated highschool so I'm guessing I asked for it." Danny sighed good naturedly and went about collecting the toppled cans. "though next time I build something I'll make sure it's halfway around the world so you can't knock it down."
Kicking her foot into the cans, she watched them topple, moving her leg out of the way and wincing at the one or two that hit her. “I’m glad.” She spoke, “Anything outside the complex? Maybe it’s causea me.” She cracked a grin, “I am covered in blood, afterall.”
"Not that I could see," Danny shrugged. "But I didn't look down so maybe." He frowned at the toppled masterpiece before frowning up at her and pouting. "hey, I built that. I put a lot of work into it. Took me three years!" He joked.
Sam quirked a brow and turned to look at him, “Considering there’s not 13 months, I’d guess day, month, year.” It was the way Europeans marked their cans, but she’d have to take a look at it to be sure. “Good plan though. There weren’t any incidents?”
"No, it's quiet out there." Danny frowned, setting everything out. "Very quiet. It was...strange." He sat back, looking at the cans before sitting forward again and setting them up like a pyramid. "But I guess it's good for us? I mean, I got food and didn't get attacked."
“Check the expiration dates at all?” Not that it mattered, they were used to eating rotten food, well she was anyway. By the way Danny’d cringed about the fruit when they’d found each other, she doubted he’d eaten any.
Matthew was still a mystery, though she had her suspicions considering his eagerness to overeat earlier. “It doesn’t really matter, but I’m just curious since you were gone so long.”
"I would have, if I could read what "12symbol 3 symbol 13 symbol meant." Danny murmured, not that cans really went skunky quickly anyways. They were usually pretty good for months after their expiry date had passed. "It was more trying to find enough to fill my backpack than any trouble with anything." Danny mentioned off handedly.
Sam smirked, taking a bite of the chocolate bar before offering it to Danny. “Let’s just hope you didn’t pick up a can of motor oil or something.” That’d be a fun time, opening and cooking a can of motor oil, or any oil for that matter.
"I'm pretty sure everything I got is some sort of food." Danny shrugged, taking the bar and taking a bite out of it. "I mean, I can understand pictures just fine." At least, the pictures had seemed to be food like, so he hoped it was food.
Well, they'd find out soon enough, he supposed.
“As good as a shower can be without hot water.” She frowned, she would’ve loved a hot bath right about now. Ice cold was never fun, and she could never stand it, to be honest. Danny cold? Yeah. Danny turning the pool cold? Sure. His ice cold was different, for whatever reason, and it was something she could stand quite easily.
She heard the mattress creak before he kissed her forehead and she grinned, nuzzling his cheek, “Yeah, but if you were tired enough to pass out, I figured you’d need your beauty sleep.”
Danny chuckled, putting his arms around her. "I was just dodging zombies all day is all." He said teasingly, pulling away and smiling at her. "But I did get a little tuckered out. Though there weren't that many out there today, luckily."
He sat back, shaking his head. "I dont know if you can figure out whats in the cans by the way. I dont know I just grabbed them, but Matthew ripped some labels off."
Hopefully whatever was canned wasn't toxic or anything. He wasn't sure what the Japanese ate aside from a lot of fish.
Sam noticed the boy asleep at the table, Matt not far behind, buried in a mountain of crayons and art supplies, and she sighed. Picking him up off the floor and carrying him to his room and tucking him in. He was sleeping a lot lately, and she had the distinct feeling it was because he wasn’t moving as much as he should be, what with being cooped up as he was. When she was feeling better, she’d have to get the kid used to exercising and regular sparring.
She headed back out to the living room and hooked her arm under Danny’s, carefully lifting and maneuvering him to the master bedroom and laid him on the bed as well, wrapping the covers around him.
She wasn’t quite sure if she wanted to resume her nap or grab a bite, and settled on rifling through the filled foodstuffs Danny’d gathered, grabbing an almond candybar before heading back into the bedroom and sitting down beside the bed.
Danny stirred in the sheets once Sam had tucked him in, muttering something under his breath as he got adjusted. He wasn't sure how he ended up in bed, so he yawned, rubbing his eyes and rolling over. He could hear Sam--or someone--crunching on something. Opening his eyes, he glanced up at Sam with a small smile. "Hey. Good shower?" He asked quietly. For some reason, he felt like loud noises would break the moment.
He yawned again and sat up, rolling his neck to get rid of the stiffness in it. "You could have woken me up you know, you didn't need to bring me to bed." He chuckled, leaning over and kissing her forehead.
She’d noticed the temperature drop slightly, but she didn’t think anything of it, the water was cold because it’d been sitting in the pipes, and she figured the heater was blown, since none of it was warm from her earlier baths.
After she was settled and dried, she threw the tampon wrapper int he garbage and took a look around the bathroom.
It was a mess. And she didn’t want to clean it.
“Leave it for the next person who finds this dump.” Sam muttered as she exited the bathroom and headed into the main room, which was empty.
“Hello? Danny? Matt?” She called, a little confused.
Danny had fallen asleep at the kitchen table, having been exhausted from the raid earlier. He hadn't wanted to fall asleep, but he just couldn't keep his eyes open anymore.
His head was tucked into his arms and he breathed slowly, occasionally letting out a little snore as he shifted, catching up on sleep.
Sam sat there, a look of utter confusion on her face as Danny left the bathroom, he thought she was a cat?
Where the heck did he even get that idea?
She snapped out of confusion just long enough to call out to Danny, “Grab me some new clothes, would you? I’m gonna take a shower first.”
She needed a proper one since she was still sitting in those ruined pants.
Unclothing and steeping into the curtain-less shower, where it had gone, she had no idea, who would steal a bath curtain? She thought back to what Danny had said and shook her head. “Cats. Really?”
Danny phased in quietly while she was in the shower, swapping her old clothes out with some new, dry ones.
He wasn't too sure what Sam would want to do with the old clothes, considering they were pretty much ruined, but he figured they'd think of something. Looking up at her really quick Danny froze. There was no shower curtain and Danny could see her in her entirety.
Every muscle in his body went stiff and he had to force himself into invisibility He hadn't realized there wasn't a shower curtain, and hadn't meant to walk in on her. He didn't think she'd appreciate it.
Gulping, the halfa watched her for a few more minutes before taking a step back. He didn't want to be caught staring, even if she couldn't see him currently. He took a few more minutes to watch her, feeling more and more like a creepy pervert before his embarrassment drove him to phase through the door again. Taking a deep breath he let himself regain visibility and leaned against the wall, trying to catch his breath. Damn she was nice to look at.
Taking the tampon from him and setting on the toilet seat, she scowled. “Enough.” She groaned. “I feel like a prune.”
She’d been sitting in the water for much of the day, and she was lucky it was pretty warm int he apartment, or she’d be at risk for catching a cold.
She quirked an eyebrow,baffled at Matt’s description of a tampon, “Mice??”
"Mice." Danny repeated with a nod. "He believes that you're a cat. That all women are cats, and that these mice toys help you get over a nasty infestation of cooties." Danny crossed his arms with a grin. Children had the wildest imaginations when they wanted to. "I'll leave you alone so you can um...insert that." He waved a hand at the tampon, going to the door.
She batted at his hand, fidgeting and trying to stay alseep, but she failed when he brushed her hair out of her face and peeked her eyes open.
Blinking a few times, she stretched with a yawn, only to bonk her head on the water faucet and groan. Settling back down and rubbing her head, she noticed Danny and jumped slightly, leaning up to sit, “Oh hey, you’re back.” Her voice was groggy and it was clear another yawn was coming, but she was glad he was back, and he looked to be pretty much unharmed.
Danny nodded, holding out a tampon for her. "Been back for... maybe half an hour?" Danny said with a smile. "Matthew and I were discussing tampons. He thinks they're mice." He said offhandedly, stepping back a little. "How many baths have you had today?" He asked with a lopsided grin.
“Mnnnn.” Sam groaned at his voice, turning over in her sleep, and pressing her face up against the faucet, before she slid down a little ways. Still uncomfortable, she let out a whine before settling, unaware that Danny’d even returned. The clove in her hand lying forgotten on the floor. Her position, more uncomfortable looking than the last, with her neck craned at an odd angle against the side, and her body curled up. Her arms scrunched beneath her and discarded behind her.
Danny rolled his eyes and came over, putting a hand on her shoulder and shaking her a little. "Hey. Wake up." He muttered, putting the tampons on the counter for the time being. "I brought your gross women things, the least you could do is wake up." He chuckled, brushing her damp hair out of her face.
While Matthew worked on his gift for Sam, the woman in question was sleeping in the bathtub. Having not really moved since earlier, aside from showering off every so often, unsure of what else to do concerning the issue. Half-eaten food laid strewn around the small room, a glass of water here and there, and the remains of a garlic clove closest to her arm, which draped over the side of the tub. The other cloves in the sink.
She’d fallen asleep in what looked to be a pretty uncomfortable position, same clothes as earlier, though thoroughly soaked. Soap bubbles clung to the sides of the tub and her clothes, remnants of the clothed bath she’d taken earlier, in an attempt to not make things awkward, had Danny chosen to walk in at an inopportune time.
Danny watched Matthew for a few moments before getting up. "You said Sam was spending her time in the bathroom?" He asked Matt and after getting a nod from the four year old he stood up and cracked some stiff joints. He wanted to get to bed soon, the raid had tuckered him out. But for now, he had to talk to Sam and get her to come out.
Subtly so Matt didn't see, Danny grabbed a couple tampons and made his way casually to the bathroom. He was hoping that she hadn't bled too much, or that she'd had the sense to plug it somehow, but was bracing for the worst.
Knocking on the bathroom door and receiving no answer, Danny frowned and called out softly, he didn't want to startle Matt into thinking something was wrong. Again getting no answer from the bathroom Danny's frown deepened. He was concerned and confused, but he glanced at Matt carefully before phasing through the door and stepping into the bathroom.
When he saw her he just stopped in his tracks. She was asleep in the bathtub--he knew she was asleep because he could see her sides moving as she breathed--but his eyes wouldn't move from her. Her clothes were wet and clinging to her, letting him see her shape nicely. The scent of garlic in the air was almost suffocating but he ignored it,--where did she get all that garlic from anyway?-- opting to breathe shallowly through his mouth instead.
He could tell she'd done it to keep the blood off, but it did nothing but excellerate his heart rate and force his eyes to become glued to her body. Boy was she hot. He once again felt lucky to have her by his side.
"Sam?" He called out once he'd managed to get past his shock. "I brought you some tampons."
“Sounds a lot like cats…” Matthew mumbled before signaling he wanted down. As soon as his tiny feet touched the floor, he went rummaging through the bag, muttering, “I’m gonna make Sammy a nother present.” He grabbed a few things and retreated to his corner with the crayons and some paper and started drawing and peeling the labels off certain cans to be used in his gift.
Danny rubbed his forehead and leaned his head on one fist that he propped up on the table. He was tired from his long day and dealing with Matthew wasn't exactly helping him. Not that he minded all that much, Matthew was a good kid and he was generally not hard to handle. Danny just didn't know what to say when he asked certain questions and it made it hard on the older boy.
"Yeah you do that." Danny nodded, watching him with a bemused smile. "Have fun. I'm sure she's going to love it."
“And they only work for girls?” Matt frowned, connecting the dots. “Why do girls get all the cool things, I want a magic mouse!” He wasn’t sick and when he was sick, his mommy and daddy never gave him one, so he guessed the mice didn’t work for boys. He could only imagine what they do; did they turn into real mice? Were they just mesmerizing? Did they hold magic? ”Are girls cats?” He suddenly asked, “Cause they don’t look like them but they really like mice toys. Do the mice keep them people formed? So they don’t turn back to cats?” Girls were a mystery, especially his mommy and Sammy. The little girls he played with at the park never used cat toys, not the mice anyway. One of them brought in a feather stick once to kindergarden, which Matthew only thought proved his theory on girls in actuality being human cats.
Danny wasn't all together sure how to answer Matthew's questions but he furrowed his brow, trying to think of something to say. "Not...quite." He started, trying to figure out how to say it without going into the whole birds and bees thing. "It's more... they keep them from getting really cranky and agitated." He wished Sam were here now to help him with this, he was really starting to flounder. "They're pretty useless for us boys though. Just because thats' how things worked out, I guess." He said with a small shrug. Kids were hard.
“What ones are for Sammy?” Matt asked, picking canned foods out and dropping them to the floor below when he discovered he couldn’t read anything. He was interested to see what ‘things’ Danny’d picked up for Sam. He dug out one of the tampons and studied the packaging for a few seconds before recognition lit up his face and he looked up to Danny. “Sammy likes cat toys?”
He’d discovered a bunch under the sink that his Daddy told him were cat toys. Little mice that his mommy was fond of. If Sammy was sick with something only girls got maybe the cat toys would make her better. “Do you think the mice will make her not sick?” He asked.
Mice toys? Is that what he thought they were? Danny felt a grin spreading on his face and he nodded. "Yeah, Sammy likes mice toys." He played along, not knowing what else to say about them. What could you tell a four year old about tampons anyways?
"The mice will help her a lot, they're almost like magic." Danny encouraged, leaning his head on a fist and eyeing Matt. The longer they could convince the boy that the tampons were toys the longer Danny had to figure out how to give him "The Talk".
