I spilled my coffee all down my shirt. Everyone at work, including the kids, saw it. Typical Alexa.
Five points to Gryffindor.
Movie Night || Ethan+Savannah
A fake offended expression worked it’s way onto Savannah’s face and she looked over at him using it. “I am not defenseless. I just prefer to make you handle all the scary and potentially dangerous things because my face is way too pretty to get beat up.” She said with a shrug. Despite her protest of being able to handle herself though, she did feel way safer with him around. But if ever questioned about it, it would be firmly and quickly denied. She smiled at him laughing at her and was slightly tempted to stick her tongue out at him like a little kid, but refrained from doing that instead choosing to just stay silent and focus on the screen. “Actually if it was my investigation, you’d be the first person I questioned. You just radiate guilty of all crimes.” Sav said with a smile in his direction.
She really did try to focus on the movie, but his arm and hand, particularly the movement of his thumb, kept grabbing her attention. Also the urges to glance over at him didn’t help. Sav even went so far as to move her hair to the side between them and use it as a block in a lame attempt to get rid of the distraction he was providing. Even with her half attention though, the movie managed to frighten her. She started off with pulling her legs up to her chest and looking at her knees everytime she got scared, and when that stopped working, she gave in and wrapped both arms around Ethan’s torso using his shoulder as a hiding place when she didn’t want to look anymore. “God Ethan. How the hell is this your favourite movie?”
"Uh. I'm hurt. You wouldn't stick up for me or come to my defense? Some friend you are." Ethan scoffed dramatically. He normally didn't use the word 'friend' - for anyone, and certainly not in front of anyone. It had sort of slipped out. He acted like it was nothing, his usual mask of indifference moving back onto his face with practiced ease. But truthfully, there were a few of his normal rules that Savannah broke and he tried not to think about it too much. If he let himself consider it, and let himself admit that she, y'know, meant something, it would only be a matter of time before the world decided to tear her away from him with some shitty excuse. So no, this, their harmless banter and antics, with the occasional romp between the sheets, was where he would let things stay.
The movie played, and Ethan was half sucked into it, half focused on the girl wrapped in his arm. He pretended not to notice the way she glanced at him every so often, and smiled slightly when she pulled her hair between them to provide some sort of shield. However, he could tell when he scarier parts of the film were getting to her and he pulled her a little closer as she started to stare at her knees instead of the screen. After the first brutal kill though, she was wrapped around him and he couldn't help but laugh slightly. Ethan's other arm came down to wrap around her as well, assuring her that she was still safe. He shrugged at her question. "Because it's a classic. Robert Englund is a fantastic Freddy. Plus he's impossible to kill basically, how do you beat a killer that kills you when you sleep? One of the most basic needs of survival. Bloody brilliant." he muttered, shaking his head slightly.
Movie Night || Ethan+Savannah
Savannah’s laugh at his comment about her bed was short, but her smile fell back into place instantly. “Oh right, how could I forget? It’s upstairs if you and it want some alone time. I promise not to interrupt.” By now things like this had become routine for the two. He’d make some smart ass comment and she’d throw one right back at him. It had been that way since the first day they met, and if Savannah was right in her judgement of Ethan, it’d be that way until the day one of them died. And she was perfectly fine with that if it meant him sticking around. “Um, hey. I could totally watch them if I wanted to. I just don’t feel like it.” And with that, the fast forward button was pressed to skip them all.
The fast forwarding was just another test of her patience though, and she soon found her fingers tapping on her thigh. “It’s a sign of your future career. But don’t worry, when you’re in prison for murdering a hundred people, I’ll come visit you. I might even bring my bed.” It wasn’t until she threw a smile over at him that she noticed his arm had moved to behind her. For a couple of seconds, she deliberated what to do before just thinking screw it and moved closer to him, reaching behind her to pull his arm down from the couch and around her shoulders instead. With that done, she grabbed the remote again and pressed play. The screen was dark for a second until the movie began, and Savannah prepared herself for whatever potential scares she was going to get that night.
"Oooh, very tempting, but I wouldn't want to leave you alone with a pile of horror films." Ethan replied with a smirk to her offer of letting he and her bed have some 'alone time'. "Honestly, the night could turn into a scene from The Ring and someone could crawl out of the TV screen, and I'd probably never forgive myself if I was enjoying your bed and left you all alone and defenseless." he joked, knowing he should probably shut up before he spooked her out of wanting to watch a scary movie. He had to admit, the idea of Freddy Krueger crawling out of the television at them was even a pretty terrifying image to him. Ethan laughed as Savannah pointed out that she could watch the previews if she wanted to. "Mmmhm, sure you could." he said, clearly unconvinced.
He figured his point was proven when he saw her fingers drumming against her thigh impatiently. He smiled and shook his head slightly, but decided not to comment. "A hundred people? Wow, that'd be pretty impressive, I think." he nodded. "Oh, do you think they'd let me have it?!" he asked, acting like an eager child for a moment before chuckling and shaking his head. "C'mon, you've gotta have a little faith that I'd be skilled enough to not get caught. Besides, who would ever suspect the handsome bloke with an accent?" he flashed her an innocent grin. She moved closer to him, pulling his arm down around her shoulders, at which point he pulled her a little closer as well, alright liking the way this night was going. Ethan's eyes moved back up to the television and he watched as Savannah pressed play, the corner of his lips turning up in an amused smile when he felt her tensing up slightly as she waited for the horror to come. His thumb idly rubbed her shoulder up and down in a soothing motion, as if to assure her that he was there, and whether Freddy came out of the TV or not, he wasn't going anywhere.
Savannah took a moment to stop and look around herself at the piles of bedding, and shrugged her shoulders. “Nah, we’re still sleeping in the bed. I brought these down just in case we did fall asleep down here first.” She answered, looking over at him with the smile she always wore when he was around. As she had suspected, all signs of her nerves had disappeared once he was inside and the door was closed. The only sign that she had ever been freaking out now was her heart which was still beating rapidly in her chest, as she figured it would do for quite some time. She couldn’t pretend she wasn’t aware of him sitting right beside her and it took more effort then she would have liked to admit for her to focus on his words instead of the way his lips looked as he spoke, but she managed to. And she was damn proud of that.
With the name Freddy Kruger out, she looked down at the Nightmare on Elm Street case and tugged her lower lip under her teeth chewing slightly. After a sideways glance at him to see if he was kidding and noting no hint of him joking on his face, she shrugged her shoulder and picked up the case. “Nightmare on Elm is it then.” Ignoring his comment on how it was up to her, she stood and walked over to the DVD player just beside the tv and popped the movie out of the case, slipping it in and grabbing the remote on her way back to sitting down. Leaning back against the couch, she stretched her legs out in front of her, waiting as patiently as she could for the movie to load. “Previews or skip them?”
Ethan nodded in understanding at her explanation, mentally noting that he honestly didn't care where they slept. The comment about her bed being better than his honestly hadn't had any stock too it- really, he just preferred sleeping next to her over sleeping next to a big empty space in a bed that was way too big for one person. There had been nights where he and Savannah had fallen asleep on her couch, a movie still playing. (The worst part of that little affair had been the major kink in his back that had lasted two entire days afterwards). Really, it didn't matter to Ethan at all where they slept. He just liked it here. "Good, 'cause remember, the bed's most of the reason I came." he said with a hint of teasing to his voice. It was okay to be a little bit of a jerk to Savannah, because she was never hesitant to give it right back to him. It was one of Ethan's favorite things about her.
He watched with a slightly amused smile as she considered his movie suggestion carefully before she seemed to finally decide, ignoring the fact that he'd told her it was her decision. Just as well. He'd get cuddles out of this. It was a win-win, really. Well, for Ethan at least. As always, his gaze just sort of naturally followed Savannah as she moved, looking away only when she turned back around to face him and sit back down. Ethan leaned back against the couch as well, letting the arm closest to Savannah come up and rest on the cushions behind her. "You ask me that like you're patient enough to sit through the previews." he pointed out. "Plus they're old movies anyway, don't bother." he shrugged one shoulder. He grabbed one of the number of blankets and laid it across both of their laps before turning his attention back to the television screen. "What does it say about me that this is honestly one of my favorite movies?" he asked with a curious chuckle.
I know it probably comes with the territory, but does every radio station for miles absolutely have to play nonstop country music?
Movie Night || Ethan+Savannah
The nerves had finally taken full effect on Savannah, as she knew they would, and she currently found herself scrambling around her room for as many pillows and fuzzy blankets as her arms could carry before running down the stairs two at a time into the living room. Normally Sav wouldn’t freak out like this about anybody coming to stay at her place, people did that all the time. But this was Ethan. And as frustrating as it was for her, he had a way of drawing out reactions that made her want to rip her hair out. Especially when it came to spending the night with him. She’d always start panicking and go overboard on practically everything. Then he’d get there and they’d start talking, and after only five minutes of hearing his accent (which sometimes sound more British than Australian to her) and just being around him, she’d completely forget what she had been stressed about.
The sound of the kettle whistling, signalling that it had boiled was what broke her out of her mini meltdown and made her stop messing around with the blankets. Sav had just enough time to pull it off the element and pour the water into her already prepped mug and tea bag before she heard the knock. She could almost feel her heart beat increase ever so slightly, but she forced herself to walk calmly toward the door with her mug wrapped in both hands instead of just sprinting there and yanking the door open like she wanted to. Forcing herself to take another second to set her mug down on the table beside the door, she finally opened it and smiled at Ethan who was now standing in front of her. “Hey. I was starting to think you got lost on the way.” Which was highly improbable considering how small the town was, and how much time they spent at each others places. But she didn’t know what else to say, so she went with her usual sarcasm.
That was when she spotted the strap of his duffel bag on his shoulder and her smile got a fraction bigger. For a reason unknown to even her, she had started to doubt that he was actually going to make good on his promise and stay with her. But seeing the bag calmed those fears and her fingers were quick in stealing the bag from him and walking inside, leaving him to close the door behind himself. She took a seat crossed legged on the floor in the middle of the mound of pillows and blankets and opened the bag, peering inside to see what he had brought. The chips and clothes were left untouched, but she did pull out all the movies and lay them down in a line in front of her. “Which one do you wanna watch?” The question was directed at him, but her eyes stayed focused on the movie covers in front of her.
It was only a minute or so before Ethan heard the sound of the door and he couldn't help the smile that appeared on his face upon seeing Savannah standing on the other side. He couldn't help himself. He enjoyed this girl, even as much as he didn't want to admit it. She brought out a different side of him that no one else really ever got to see. A side that was lighter and happier, and seemed to have less emotional baggage to worry about. It certainly helped that she was easy on the eyes, and the way her beaming smile seemed to get even bigger would never cease to catch him off guard. He chuckled slightly at her comment about him getting lost and shrugged. "It was pretty touch-and-go for a while there, but I seem to have managed to find my way." he nodded almost seriously.
Next thing he knew, she was snatching his bag and he had no other choice but to follow her into the house and close the door behind him. Things with Savannah were always very casually. He was rarely treated like a normal house guest anymore. Ethan kicked his shoes off before following her into the living room. He raised a brow in surprise at the mass of pillows and blankets on the floor. "I take it we're sleeping in here tonight?" he guessed with a gesture to the bedding as she laid the movies out to see what he had brought. He sat down next to her and observed the cases as well before shrugging. "It's up to you, love. You're the one who wanted movies, and I brought movies. Also snacks." he added, pointing to his duffle on the other side of her. "But I'm a man of fine taste and I do believe I will always be in the mood to watch Freddy Krueger rock the world with knife fingers." he added with a shrug. "Really though, you pick. I like all of them." he told her.
I think I need a dog.
Oh god yes let’s stop. I’m not sure I can cope with you saying hooligans again.
Roughians? Hoodlums? Whatever you want to call them, there is always a potential for them. Even in towns like this delightful, mostly peaceful place.
Movie Night || Ethan+Savannah
Standing in front of his movie shelf, duffle bag in hand (which already contained his tooth brush and a spare change of clothes) Ethan pursed his lips as he pondered which movies to bring to Savannah's for their impromptu movie night plans. He was definitely bringing at least a couple scary flicks- he was no dummy. Savannah was sure to be huddled against him within the first half hour, and although he never really admitted things like this out loud, he liked having that girl close to him. Feeling her warmth, smelling her perfume, and knowing she was safe- even if she may be scared out of her wits in the event of a horror movie. Still, he just liked having her near him and being able to keep her safe. Not that he'd be apt to admit those words aloud anytime soon. The fact that he considered them himself was close enough to the vest for him.
After deciding on some oldies but goodies (Nightmare on Elm Street, Halloween, and Children of the Corn), Ethan also grabbed a couple comedies, and one of them even bordered on a chick flick, just in case he got there and Savannah really didn't want to watch anything scary. He figured as long as she knew he wasn't going anywhere, she would be fine, but he was going to be prepared just in case. Tossing them into his duffle, he headed towards the kitchen and into the pantry for his next objective: snacks. A bag of tortilla chips, a bag of Lays, and a bag of Doritos topped the bag off and he zipped it shut, pulling it onto his shoulder. Ethan pulled his cellphone out of his sweatpants pocket and glanced at the time en route to his front door. Hell, they probably wouldn't get very much further than one movie before one of them started to fall asleep. Or before Ethan tried to take advantage of the fact that they were sitting alone in a dimly lit room, cuddled up close on a couch, usually under a blanket.
"Keys." he muttered to himself as he picked them up out of the bowl on the desk in the foyer. "Light." he added, flicking the light off and stepping outside. He locked the door behind him and headed down the steps and towards his car. The drive to Savannah's was short (as was the drive to most places in this town) and he knew it like the back of his hand by now. In nearly no time at all, he was walking up the front steps of her little home. Running one hand through his hair, the other came up and knocked a few times, leaning against the door frame as he waited for her to answer.
I think I need a dog.
Potential hooligans? You live in New Sienna, I don’t think there are any potential hooligans.
Of course there are potential hooligans. There's always a potential for hooligans. Okay, now we've really gotta stop saying potential and hooligans.
I think I need a dog.
I’m not sure if that’s your own weird way of saying I have a cute angry face or not.. Even if it is, I just might take you up on that offer to sue you. You are pretty much rich after all.
Well if I used terms like 'cute angry face', then that's probably what I would have been saying. And hey, don't get any ideas. I never pegged you for the gold digging type.
I think I need a dog.
It’s cause you like to torture me. I’m sure of it.
There's this face you make when you're irritated that I find...endearing. Sue me.
I think I need a dog.
Waiting is so hard though. You know patience has never been my strong suit.
And yet I have so much fun making you wait for things. Odd.
I think I need a dog.
Yea I do actually, hence why I asked.
Well, good things come to those who wait, snarky.
I think I need a dog.
And how exactly do you plan on doing that?
Wouldn't you like to know?
I think I need a dog.
You guess? Normally I’d be offended by that, but you’re coming over with movies and food so I couldn’t care less now.
I'll make it up to you.
