North Star Cosmos Logo

North Star Roller Derby (NSRD) is home to three travel teams that compete for the league on the regional and national stages. The newly-formed Cosmos C-Team asked me to create a logo design for their scrimmage shirts. Drawing inspiration from painted WWII fighter planes, I created a created a rocket ship graphic based on the official league mascot, Gnarly the Narwhal. The skaters were delighted by the design and approved it with only a few small changes. To maintain consistency with the other travel teams’ uniforms, the Cosmos shirts will be printed in Kelly green and white and make their debut on the track in August, 2017.

North Star Satellites Logo

When the heads of North Star Roller Derby’s Satellites recreational program asked me to redesign their logo, I immediately accepted. As a former Satellite myself, I was honored to give back to my very first roller derby team. We decided on a roller skate with the solar-panel wings of a communications satellite. The oval behind the skate forms the outline of a roller derby track, with stars representing skaters.

Printed apparel is pending, but the tank top mock-ups above show how the logo will look when printed in the team colors of light yellow and navy.

Roller Derby Event Posters

The Minnesota Men’s Roller Derby (MMRD) Marketing team asked me to design a poster and social media banner to promote their 2017 Championship Bout. They had a “mystery” theme in mind, and, with a little workshopping, we decided on an instantly recognizable psychedelic parody.

Wedding Invitations

For an autumn wedding, the happy couple (names changed) asked for a design that did not use stereotypical seasonal or wedding imagery. Instead, I paired simple flower motifs with harvest colors in order to express the richness of the season and the vibrant depth of the couple’s love for one another.

Dark Tower Book Cover Redesigns

Stephen King’s genre-bending Dark Tower series was published over a span of thirty years. The various editions and designs reflect a wide range of aesthetics with little cohesion. Working with the series as a whole set, I designed covers for a hypothetical new edition that is unified, minimalistic, and contemplative. It should pique the curiosity of new readers while certain elements will be instantly recognizable to long-time fans.
