Break Free PNW in Anacortes, WA
ANACORTES, WASHINGTON, USA -- May 13 - May 15, 2016.
On Friday evening, May 13, 2016, a blockade encampment was set up on the train tracks leading to the oil refineries in Anacortes. The blockade lasted over 36 hours on the train tracks as part of the Break Free actions happening around the world.
Throughout the weekend, thousands of people converged in Anacortes, WA, as part of the global climate mobilization Break Free. Many risked arrest by engaging in peaceful civil disobedience to highlight the moral urgency of immediate action to combat climate change. Anacortes is home to two fossil fuel refineries owned by Shell and Tesoro. These refineries are the largest unaddressed source of carbon pollution in the Northwest and they refine 47% of all the gas and diesel used in the region. Break Free Pacific Northwest events will continue throughout the weekend.
Break Free 2016 is a week of coordinated direct actions that target the most dangerous fossil fuel projects, in an effort to keep coal, oil and gas in the ground and accelerate a just transition to 100% renewable energy. Thousands of people all over the planet are putting their bodies on the line to send a message to polluters and politicians that we need to break free from fossil fuels now.

Visiting a friend’s farm on Orcas Island in Washington State. Exploring the island, working in the fields, and loving the island life here in the Pacific Northwest.

PARIS, FRANCE-- On, November 29, 2015 Hundreds of pairs of shoes filled the square at Place de la République in Paris. The shoes symbolized all the people that would have marched in the streets had the protest not been canceled by the French government.
Thousands of people gathered at a peaceful protest for the climate on Boulevard Voltaire in Paris, France. The people held hands and linked arms on the sidewalk of the boulevard and displayed banners in support of the climate movement. At the start of the human chain, a collection of shoes were placed in the square of Place de la République.

For the past two weeks I’ve been working on an olive farm in southern France through the WWOOF program. I arrived at one of the busiest times of the year on the farm and was able to help with both hand picking olives and collecting the olives in nets after they have been knocked out of the tree. The farm was in Lagorce, France, in the region of Ardèche, which is a beautiful area. Here are a few photos from my time on the farm.

Last weekend, Troy Community Farm hosted a party for their CSA members. It was a beautiful event with great food, music, games, face painting, farm tour, and a chance for all the folks that receive the CSA share each week to meet the staff and interns at the farm. Here are a few photos from the evening.
