smth i think about lately is that diegetically the intermission track is a caine original composition. and its weird. odd instrumentation (is that a rubber band?) and the melody is dissonant. kind of frenetic and peculiar. ive never heard anything else quite like it. sort of the music equivalent of a fucked up shape if you will. and its the best track in the show and i cant stop listening to it. and i think christ i hope gooseworx never stops making things.

The idea of "holding a character accountable" in fiction is an interesting one. It can be very difficult to pin down what "accountability" looks like (this also goes for the real world).

But I think a good model is that it's recognising that their actions caused or had the potential to cause harm, that they had a choice in that, and regretting the choice they made with a sincere resolution to make different ones in the future. As well as doing whatever is practical to undo that harm.

In fiction because it's this cool thing called "made up" you can do a thing where you give the character a chance to make another analogous choice and have them choose differently. Like in PHM for example, IF you take Grace not wanting to go on the certain death mission as wrong, then the fact that he turns around to save Rocky is him getting another analogous choice and making it differently.

TADC failed to hold Jax accountable in no small part because it fucking killed him. If your idea of justice is vindictive retribution that's cool I guess, "hooray, the bad person ended up dead". But in a more satisfying show Pomni could have brought Jax back from abstraction, and then Jax could have done the same for Kaufmo and Ribbit. That would have been accountability. Or, hell, even just actually connecting with Pomni (which kinda happened except Jax stayed abstracted so there's no suggestion it was any different to the connection with Ribbit). Maybe the show could have ended on Jax going into an abstracted Kaufmo/Ribbit the way Pomni went into him.

i actually cant tell you how many times a day i have the thought that this [gestures to all of it] couldnt possibly be real. and then have the response thought "well, what else could it be?" and having to cede the point because if anything exists for me to experience then something must necessarily exist that is real whatever that thing may be. it just seems so statistically improbable. whyyyy would there be a universe and why would there be life in it and why would i be this one particular life in this one particular place at this one particular time? the odds are infinitessimally against it. its absurd. theres a new sunset every day and every day i find it beautiful even though theres no reason i ought to. is anyone else really really scared of dying without experiencing everything
