ECP1333 The Temple Beautiful Band at the Bottom Of The Hill, SF, May 29, 2026
Geoffrey Pond, one of the former bookers of the Temple Beautiful on Geary St. in San Francisco in the late 1970s, now fronts the Temple Beautiful Band, "a collection of local Bay Area musicians performing songs from a cross selection of OG Punk bands that performed at 1839 Geary St. but are no longer around to perform their own music, now that it's known that their work mattered in a big picture that endures. Much of the band now used to be in the mosh pit then or paying the venue to make it all possible in the first place."
On May 29, 2026, the Temple Beautiful Band offered up covers of Tuxedo Moon, the Zeros, the Plugz, Black Randy, and many more, as well as some original numbers with a gruesome Grand Guignol sensibility inspired by Geoffrey’s work in theater. The band climaxed with an affectionate cover of Chuck Prophet’s song Temple Beautiful, prefaced by a story of how Chuck walked into the Temple Beautiful at the tender age of 16 and had his mind fully blown.
In the final year of San Francisco’s crucial venue the Bottom Of The Hill, this set was a good reminder that even when a venue shuts its doors, it will live in the hearts of those who loved it for years afterwards.
