The Netherlands is absolutely gripped in the biggest me too scandal we’ve ever had and it get’s more fucked up everyday

A short summary:

Last week it came to light that there was sexually unacceptable behavior going on in the tv program ‘The Voice’. This talentshow is known worldwide but was originally a dutch concept and is still widely popular over here. It’s one of the best watched programs om dutch television.

Because the country is so small we have a small circle of famous people and a lot of them are involved with the voice. So depending on who knows what this scandal could cause the collapse of the dutch entertainment industry as we know it.

The bandleader was the first one who got charged with sexual misconduct and he admitted to it and left the show. The bandleader is the husband of the presentator, who is the sister of the largest media boss in the Netherlands, John de Mol. He is also the owner of a broadcasting network and the original creator of this show. One of the judges on the show also got charged. It has come to light that the producers of this show were aware of the sexual misconduct for years and did nothing.

This was all discovered by Tim Hofman, he’s a journalist and presentator. He has a youtube show called ‘BOOS’ that is popular and well-regarded. He released some information last week but has kept quiet since then, saying things would be made clear in his new youtube episode. In the meanwhile it has been a media circus, this has all been in the national news. Today the youtube episode airs, so hopefully we will learn more today. There are probably more victims than we know of.

Depending on who knows what this could change the lives of countless of ppl, maybe even the dutch media landscape as a whole.
