Happily Domestic

chanyeol couldn’t believe it, he had been with the love of his life for eight years now. high school sweethearts when he was seventeen, and now he’s twenty-five. kyungsoo had caught his eye upon first glance and being a very vocal and confident high schooler, chanyeol had no problem asking him out…though it did take a couple of times. high school came and went and college was lonely until kyungsoo joined him. roommates and lovers, they were able to support each other through their studies and always stuck it out through hard times. after college they had moved into an apartment together, started a life together, made promises as husbands. and now they were starting a new chapter in their life, coming home from the hospital. 

for the past nine months, his sister yoora had been carrying kyungsoo’s children. unable to conceive naturally between the two of them, yoora who carried the same genes as him offered to carry kyungsoo’s children so they would still look like chanyeol. it was selfless of his sister and he loved her so much, he owed his life to her for giving him such a miracle. 

taking his first step into the house with one of the twins in his arms, chanyeol felt like crying from happiness, he couldn’t believe that he was a father now and that so was kyungsoo. cradling baby minwoo to his chest he turns around to stare at his husband with tears in his eyes. “we’re home.” He says softly not to wake the sleeping babe up. “daddy, papa, minwoo, and minsu…we’re all home.” he says sniffling a bit.

chanyeol was very dramatic and a big softy, he would probably be crying for the next month with all the cute little things the twins would do. “we’re officially parents now…we have tiny little humans to take care of.”

this still feels so surreal. his marriage with chanyeol, his boyfriend for almost eight years now. when kyungsoo first started the relationship he didn’t think he would be this whipped for the soft giant, thinking he’s just going to be another one that got away. they started out as best friends until it turned into something more, a vice-president for the drama club and the quarterback for their school’s football team. but here they are, in front of their house--home, two bundles of warmth snug on both of their arms. 

“i know, love. i know.” kyungsoo smiles, involuntarily. he just couldn’t hold back his smile whenever he sees chanyeol like this. the last time he teared up was during their vow, and kyungsoo smiled so hard he thought his cheeks were going to fall off before kissing the giant square on the lips. “be careful of the baby now. wouldn’t want to fail your first task as a dad.”

carrying the other twin to his new crib, he bounced minsu lightly in his arms. smiling to the older before shifting to minwoo. “it’s kind of odd, but i feel like they resemble you more than i do.” tiptoes to steal a kiss from the giant. “i’m glad we get to have two more chanyeols running around in our house. thank you for giving me this chance. i love you.”

Chanyeol inwardly started to panic a bit as the slytherin boy didn’t answer him. well shit, did he hate him that much that he couldn’t wait to get out of here? maybe the boy just felt responsible and like he was making up for that debt. the gryffindor really hoped that wasn’t the case. he genuinely liked to grumpasouraus known as kyungsoo thomas. and then finally he spoke and chanyeol left out a breath he didn’t know he was holding in.

“I mean my sister is one, maybe I should have been one too…I’m not as…devious as her though. I’m a bit more light hearted. I think that’s why i’m a gryffindor…” he rambles on a bit. he was starting to get really sleepy, building back bone was hard work. he didn’t want that to let on though, if the other knew he was tired, they might leave. chanyeol didn’t want to be on his own…

“And please my hair is amazing.” he snorts a bit before leaning back in the bed, his eyes drooping just a little bit. “do you know?” he asks curiously staring at the other for a little bit, the serious air suddenly back…and gone just as quick as it came. ‘I mean I know you like me, why else would you hand feed me.” He says with a wide smile. “Stay with me the night.” he suddenly says tilting his head a bit. 

he doesn’t understand why his stomach suddenly feels funny, nor he understands why chanyeol could still stand him even after what kyungsoo had said to him since they first met. memories of their past interactions resurfaced, causing the slytherin boy to wince slightly. he hadn’t been the nicest person to chanyeol, and yet here he is, injured and vulnerable asking for him to stay the night.

and he hates it. he hates the feeling of not knowing something. especially when it comes to his own feelings--and chanyeol too. but somehow it feels foreign and new. what is happening to him? 

“why?” the inquiry was blurted out so suddenly, unconfined and kyungsoo would’ve slapped himself into stopping if he had control of his own body. his eyes travel to his own lap, fists clenched on his knees. the odd sensation in his stomach is getting even worse. “i’ve been nothing but an asshole to you. why would you still want me to stay?”

“Just because we’re used to it, doesn’t mean we like. It’s nice when someone treats us humanely for a change.” Chanyeol says staring into the other eyes. “You’re not one to show compassion easily are you? Or are you just a sadist and enjoy bring pain to other’s while you heal them? Odd concept to think of, helping people, but hurting them at the same time. You’re complex…interesting.” he hums softly and leans back closing his yes. 

“Okay. I won’t move.” He says truthfully as he lets out a soft breath of air. Honestly this was nothing and he’s has much worse medical attention while on duty. Although it did suck that he had to get his stitches redone while on leave. 

Opening an eye he glances up at the doctor and smiles slightly. “What’s the fun in that?” He asks with a small hum. “I’ll live plenty long. There’s only accidents in fishing, no casualties. Not when I know what I’m doing. I’ll catch plenty of fish and continuing doing. Korea needs it’s fisherman after all.”

he lets out a soft laughter. the other deserved that much after all the pain he had put onto him. “not complex. i just prefer my patients to be less reckless, is all.” brown eyes shifts to the now open wound. no sign of infection... less problems to deal with. skilled fingers quickly make use of the stitching wire, starting from the end of the cut. stitching has become a daily bread now that kyungsoo is posted in the A&E. 

“then again, that’s probably just wishful thinking, huh?” a genuine smile tugs the corner of his lips, slightly apologetic. kyungsoo really didn’t mean no harm. he had to admit it was rather unprofessional of him to put personal opinions ahead of the patient’s well-being. “i know that’s your job. but next time be more careful. you’re lucky the knife wound wasn’t deep enough to damage to the internal organs.”

chanyeol couldn’t help but watched the other just stare at him, he looked slightly confused and it was an expression that went well with his features. That should have been a huge red flag for chanyeol though, it means he wasn’t buying the whole fishing accident. oops. Oh would have knocked him hard over the head for missing such information. chanyeol was too relaxed, which was very odd for the captain who was always on high  alert. 

when the doctor suddenly ripped off his gauze he flinched a bit and clenched his fist. “Ow.” he said staring at the other in shock, his eyebrows lifted. weren’t doctors supposed to be gentle with their patients? when he started to poke around his wound, chanyeol whined as his abdomen went ridged. “could you maybe not do that?” he ask with a small pout on his lips. if he wanted to be poked and prodded at he would have seen Oh’s girlfriend. 

“well i mean, an active life is a good life. can’t just stop, life doesn’t stop.” he says staring down at the wound. oops. it was a little worse off than he thought. “redone?” he said with a scowl on his lips. damnit, he hated needles. hesitantly he gets up and lays on the bed, keeping his shirt just below his chest. 

chanyeol hissed slightly at the sting of the disinfectant, but when the other didn’t give him any local anesthetic he started to whine. “that hurts you know, aren’t you going to numb me up?” he asks with a huff staring at the doctor. so cruel for being so cute.

licking his lips slightly as the other spoke of ballistic knives he was quick to smirk at the other, his eyes showing mischief. “nice and sharp, perfect for fillets.” he says without missing a beat. “a sogarli, big ass fucker. boat was wet and slippery, I tripped with the knife in my hand trying to gut it.”

kyungsoo let out a hum of faux astonishment, deciding to play along. he’s familiar with how politics work in the military and quite frankly, it’s the last thing he’d want to be involved with at the moment. two years of service as the their doctor was enough. boredom has it’s own limits. he thought dimly. but a little playful banter should be fine.

“numb you up? i thought soldiers are used to pain?” he asks with a straight face, although the corners of his lips are twitching to get up. for a moment he really was considering on stitching the other without anesthetics. “besides, maybe you’ll think twice about being reckless if i do this painfully.”

but in the end, the doe-eyed male relented anyway. he began dabbing the scar tissue with a gauze of anesthetics before taking his place beside the bed with a needle. “alright. i will start now.” he warns the other as he sunk the needle onto the skin. 

“maybe next time you should think about catching a smaller and less vicious fish. what’s the point of catching a fish when you won’t live long enough to enjoy it, no?”

chanyeol’s eyes went a little wide as the other actually called his name. hell, he just wanted the cute doctor to tend to him, he didn’t realize he was lucky enough to actually have this cute doctor as his doctor. he must have done something right in the scheme of karma or something to have received such good luck. 

he can’t help but notice how cute and tiny the doctor was, he reminded chanyeol of a penguin, cute and fluffy. thought he personality was a little rough around the edges. or maybe that was just from working a long shift. doctors had crazy hours after all, he was well accustomed to long hours on the job, going days without sleep, those were the worst missions. 

“I’ll follow you.” he says with a wink, the smirk still on his lips. oh he must have done something right, this doctors voice, so low and melodic, it was love at first sight. 

wrinkling his nose a bit he sighs and nods his head. “nasty fishing accident, gutted myself instead of the fish.” he says staring directly into the other’s big doe eyes. he had to lie, he wasn’t allowed to tell the details of the mission he had just been on, it would compromise national security and secrets. fishing accident it was, not a north korean soldier getting in a good swing at him. of course he got a good one back, it was the nature of the job.

“I was hoping you could look at it for me, it’s been bothering me a lot lately.” he said truthfully this time, though it didn’t look like he was in any pain. 

lifting up his shirt he reveals a bandaged wound that had blood seeping into the gauze. “It should have stopped bleeding by now right? I got stitches.”

honestly--what is it with his luck with patients? everytime he gets one that isn’t under anesthesia, they are either extremely ‘outspoken’ or simply ignorant. this patient doesn’t count though. being flirted on was new for kyungsoo, especially by a male with military background. he had served his time several years ago as the military doctor, and it’s surprising how chanyeol could survive in that lion den.

“fishing accident,” he repeats it one more time, mostly to himself. kyungsoo scoots closer towards the other to get a better look on the wound, taking the gauze off in one swift movement. the wound was still wet with blood and a tad swollen. no sign of infections, fortunately.

he pokes the wound lightly with his finger--hard enough to hurt but not cause any further damage to the tissue--with a click of his tongue. “you move too much. the sutures need to be redone again.” his tone was even, but there’s a hint of mischief behind it. kyungsoo is usually gentle with patients, but sometimes there are cases where doctors are required to be rough with their patients to prevent them from doing it again. he points at the cot with his shoulder as he stood up. “please lie down on the bed while i prepare.”

once everything has been set up, kyungsoo began disinfecting the wound area and taking the old sutures out. “gutting a fish with a ballistic knife only available to russian and north korean military forces must be one hell of an experience, huh?” he quips before looking straight onto the soldier’s eyes. “how big was the fish? surely it’s big enough to cause a wound this deep.”

Yifan shakes his head when he recalls how Kyungsoo had shooed him and told him to rest. He can’t sleep just yet, not when he need to guard the place. So he keeps himself busy by trying to clean the bed and stripped it from its dusty cover. He throws the dusty cloth outside, sneezing on his way out thanks to the dust clinging to the said fabric.

He beats the pillows outside, covering his nose and holding his breath so no more dust get into his nose. Yifan throws wary glances to the woods around the small cottage, in case the sound of him beating the pillows attracted any walkers. He didn’t bring his weapon along with him, a dumb thing to do because if walkers were to hear him, he only have the pillows to fend him from them. Yifan hurriedly come back inside, noticing that Kyungsoo is done with the thing he’s cooking. 

“Why aren’t you eating with me?” He asks, hand catching the younger’s elbow. “Let’s eat first, just in case something happen we’ll need our strength.” He pulls Kyungsoo along with him, and they eat on the bare bed. Yifan stares on a vacant space, mind blanking due to lack of sleep and fatigue. He finally snaps awake, shaking his head before standing on his feet trying to assess what heavy furniture they have to barricade the windows and the door if they plan to stay there for a while. 

“I’ll rest in a bit. Need to block that window we broke to get in here.” Yifan ruffles the other’s hair, a thin smile stretched on his lips. “Lack of sleep won’t kill me. Relax, I’ll rest after I drag that cabinet to cover the window.

“What are you thinking right now? You have your ‘deep in thought’ look on your face right now.” He messes the other’s hair more that it puffs out like a bird nest. When the cabinet is covering the broken window and making sure the door is sealed shut, Yifan plops onto the bed, patting the empty side. “Sleep with me. I think we both need rest and while it’s bit risky, the possible entrance to this place are all closed so it should be fine.”

he nearly jumps when yifan grabbed his arm, autopilot turns into survival instincts and swings an arm towards the other’s neck. his attack halted halfway once yifan’s face comes into view, and kyungsoo never breathed a sigh of relief harder than that. he was completely focused on his own thoughts that he didn’t hear the other’s steps approaching. 

a stunt like that usually would earn the elder a harsh punch to the arm, but kyungsoo didn’t have the energy in him to actually do that and opted on grumbling silently instead. at least he already got them all cleaned. he deserves the food and rest.

once he finished eating, the doe-eyed boy let his old routine takes him and starts cleaning up the dishes. it’s always been like that even before the apocalypse started. kyungsoo doing the clean up behind the scenes and yifan doing something else altogether that could risk his life. what if he got involved in some shady underground business? what if a walker broke in and bit him while he barricaded the entire room? it’s tiring for kyungsoo to keep dealing with the same worry over and over again. the world’s ended, for god’s sake. he should be worrying for something more vital.

then again, when he’s with yifan, kyungsoo felt like he could tackle the world.

“how to put you into a handcuff without restraining your movements.” he heaves a deep sigh, walking towards the empty side of the bed and lies there. kyungsoo thinks about holding the other tightly just like when they were kids, but decided against it instead. “you really need to stop straining yourself, hyung. this isn’t about being healthy anymore--this is about survival. your movement will be much more sluggish if you keep forcing yourself.”

he bites his lips, trying to contain himself from the wave of emotional outburst that is about to come. but a sentence managed to escape anyway. barely above a whisper yet sounded loud and clear in the room, strained from the lump that suddenly formed in his throat.

“i don’t want to lose you.”

captain park was a playful, yet stubborn man. coming back from deployment he wanted to enjoy his time off for a little bit, which only ended up pushing back things he really should have taken care of immediately. such as a check up appointment on the wound he received while deployed. it was a good thing he had sergeant first class oh to remind him that he was a dumb ass and needed to go to the doctor because a wound hurting after stitches wasn’t normal. what was normal anyway? eh it’s not like he’s going to die right? captain park taken out by an infected wound…the entire alpha team would mock him for all of eternity.

finally forcing himself to go to the hospital he sits down and waits for his turn. he hated waiting. sighing he tilts his head back and stares at the ceiling thinking of all the things he could be doing while he finally had free time. he could be out drinking, eating delicious food, playing games, seeing a movie. but no, he was stuck in the waiting room waiting to see some doctor.

groaning softly he turns his head to stare at the door, as if that would will a doctor ready to see him. he was such an impatient man. he literally felt like this waiting was going to kill him. finally someone came out and it caused him to sit up straight in his chair. wow. 

dark hair, large eyes, full lips. this doctor was gorgeous from head to toe. not even waiting for them to call out a patients name he makes his way over tapping the chart in their hands. “yes that’s me, i’m ready.” he says with a smirk on his lips.

this is why kyungsoo preferred dealing with surgeries. no social interactions required and he can work in peace. the doe-eyed male nearly hissed when the head nurse told him he had filled all of his quota for the week and posted him on the ER instead. which much to his relief wasn’t very crowded for the evening. just a couple of dumb kids doing dumb things that ends up with a dumb accident and a man that strangely looks okay.

oh well. the faster he gets this done, the faster he get to go home and hit the pillows. eyes scanning through the chart as he walks out of the examination room. knife wound with a risk of infection... shouldn’t be too bad. kyungsoo tears his eyes away from the paper to call out the name, but ends up facing a male’s chest with dogtags on them.

“....okay. please come in then.” he makes way for the other to come in, noting how tall mr. park is upon closer inspection and kyungsoo had to swallow the bitter pill that he will forever stay under the 6′0 mark. the grin upon his patient’s features also didn’t go unnoticed--but kyungsoo chose to ignore it instead to hang onto the small thread of hope that this patient will leave quickly without much words. maybe he just finds his features funny--which according to nurses in his department resembles pororo.

when they both are finally seated, kyungsoo began with a small cough. “so, mr. park. what can i do for you today? says here you just took a knife to your abdomen several weeks ago?”

“Are you okay?” Yifan hurriedly examines Kyungsoo’s face to check any injury. The area around Kyungsoo’s nose are quite red. Yifan tentatively places his fingers to feel the nasal bone, making sure if the bottle didn’t break it. After making sure that nothing is wrong with the younger’s face, Yifan helped the younger to stuff some medicine and the disinfectant into his backpack, along with some bottles of water and canned foods.

“I saw it too. It looks like a cottage so maybe if we want to stay there we either have to negotiate or kill someone.” He grimly muses out loud. Yifan looks back at Kyungsoo, noticing the latter’s expression and he slaps a smile on his face. “Relax, with you we’ll probably be able to reach an agreement if the place is inhabited by someone.” He ruffles the younger’s hair.

He knows he’ll have to murder someone if something were to get ugly. The only thing that really matters is their safety, and no one can trust friends in this kind of world now, let alone strangers. Staying alive is necessary and the very first priority in his book, and that means securing Kyungsoo’s safety. 

They left the store, stepping carefully around the bodies that scatter around the entrance of the store. They remained immobile as the males trudge on their feet, the hope of a temporary shelter serves as a slight injection of motivation for them to keep going. They encountered no zombies on the way and when they finally arrived on the cottage they saw, the males examined the state of the place. It doesn’t seem to be a place that recently been inhibited, Yifan can see it was a cozy little place before being left behind to rot. The structure is still sturdy enough for them to stay there for a while.

Yifan broke the window, purposefully doing so to draw attention of the walkers inside, if there’s any. They doesn’t hear any growling from inside and they entered the place through the window. It must have been abandoned for months. Whoever owns the place never bothered to nail some planks over the windows for safety measure, or they simply just don’t care. 

“It’s dusty here, but it will do. Get some rest, I’ll heat the canned food for us to eat. You must be hungry, right?” Yifan settled himself on the dusty floor, already setting the small makeshift stove from his bag and fishing one canned corn and cornet beef from the very same bag. He uses his zippo for the fire source and opening the cans with a swiss army knife he already possessed back in high school. He only has two belonging that comes with him from their old lives, the old zippo and the knife. 

The older the two sweeps his gaze around the place, noting that its a very small cottage that only have two rooms, a bathroom and the room that serves as kitchen, bedroom and living room. The bed is covered in a layer of dust, they probably need to throw the sheets away so they won’t sneeze too much if they sleep there. 

“Does your nose still hurting?” Yifan asks, stirring the slowly heating food. His stomach growled and he laughs in a slight embarrassment. Yifan holds back a yawn, not wanting for Kyungsoo to nag at him to sleep for a while when he need to stay up and watch the place. “You didn’t break your nose, but if it still hurting tell me.” He knows plenty about physical injuries, granted that he received many in his younger days.

it irks kyungsoo to see yifan taking over everything. he didn’t mind back then, because he understood he was still a teenager and it would take time for the elder to start seeing him as an adult, but being constantly babied and spoon fed when you’re twenty is sickening. his hand reaches over yifan’s, taking control of the spoon. “me? i’m not the one who almost fell asleep while walking.” his tone is harsh as he pries the bigger hand away from the utensil. pushing yifan is heavier than he thought. “i’ll cook and clean up. you rest. stop treating me like i’m some kid.”

before the other could make any protests, kyungsoo shuts the door in front of his face. call him rude but yifan can be stubborn even when he’s dead tired, and truth to be told he himself isn’t up for a lengthy discussion with his childhood friend at that moment. they both just had a long journey across the country, after all. any discussion is a potentially explosive argument.

stirring the contents of the pot, he begin to hum softly. black hues shift around the interior of the cottage, cringing at the spiderwebs here and there--or the thick layer of dust that already permeated the furniture. with heavy cleaning, the place can actually work as a small home. enough to fit both of them. they could live off from the wild plants inside the woods, or maybe do a little trip every week to the city. it’s hidden by the trees too. walkers shouldn’t be a problem.

living together. the word sinks in heavily. they used to live together before the world went to shit, but just as close friends. or before he confessed and they began ’dating’. it sounds so intimate now, because the thing between them is far from platonic. kyungsoo used to watch western series where unmarried couples move into a shared apartment together, doing all those things that only married couples are supposed to do. could he really achieve that with yifan? the damn giant can’t even move on from his old status as the ‘big brother’. if anything they would only resemble siblings more instead of couples.

when the contents finally boils, he turns the stove off and let the ‘soup’ cool down before placing it by the door inside the room for yifan to eat. meanwhile, he can clean up the cottage a little. he hated dust as a child and the hatred certainly didn’t die down even everything around him is.

A sudden pull on the collar of his shirt caught him off guard, nor did he expect a pair of warm lips pressing firmly against his. His last question got pushed to the furthest corner of his mind when what matters now is he’s got an armful the man that likes to play hard to get, often frustrating him to the point of him losing control of himself and acting like a dog begging for its master’s attention. He had always have difficulties saying no to Kyungsoo, willingly losing his dignity just to put back a smile on the latter’s lips. The Yifan before Kyungsoo wouldn’t go as far as driving at 4 am just because of a single text message–he never even respond to any kind of message or phone call after 11 pm. 

But with Kyungsoo it was different, it’s always different. 

Yifan might or might not let out an undignified squeak when the younger male smushed their lips together but soon to recover from his slight surprise. He kissed the other with the same passion, one hand finding its place on the hips of his boyfriend and the other is cupping his jaw. In his hazy mind, he couldn’t help but to marvel at how familiar the positions of his hands are and how he had immediately and almost automatically placed them there. 

He finds it odd, maybe it’s something akin to muscle memory and he wonders if he had repeated the action again and again that his hands had come to remember where they belong. His eyes darkens at the sudden request, tongue sweeping his own lips as he stare unabashedly at Kyungsoo. 

“What brought the sudden change, huh? Earlier you seemed pretty disinterested in playing with me,” he inquires with a lilt in his tone. “There’s no way you got turned on when I sucked your wounded finger, right? Oh, wait.” He drags his tone as if he just had a realization and Yifan takes Kyungsoo’s injured hand and brings it close to his mouth. 

“Do you like it when my tongue playing with your wound? Do you like the pain, Kyungsoo?” His tongue flicks the wound once, testing the water. When he sees that there’s no negative reaction Yifan continues his little endeavor to screw around with Kyungsoo though he’ll deny it as an study getting know his boyfriend more. He gently sinks his teeth on the closing wound, causing it to reopen and starting to bleed again. Yifan laps his tongue slowly, catching every drop of blood while pressing kisses on Kyungsoo’s fingers and open palm here and there. 

“Do you like it when I bite you? Rough you up? How masochistic.” He chuckles softly, teeth grazing the visible line of veins. How tempting, a small nibble here–no. The young ghoul reminds himself. He at the point where he already admitted that he loves Kyungsoo a lot months ago and he’d like to keep his boyfriend alive, in one complete piece and completely unaware of his identity. He’s threading on a dangerous water here but looking at Kyungsoo makes him wants to this, maybe for the younger male or just for his own curiosity. “Tell me what you want me to do, Kyungsoo. In words.”

“you stupid fuck.” he hisses, no actual bite in his words. not when yifan’s lips is doing all those dirty things to his hand. the pain startles him, yet rouses something primal inside as blood continues to be siphoned by the older’s lips. with the way he licks on it as if it was a sweet liquid could fool anyone that yifan is actually a vampire.

or maybe something else. something more familiar. a ghoul--

the thought of it has adrenaline coursing through his body, intensifying the light-headed feeling that comes like a wave crashing through his being. kyungsoo accidentally lets out a small moan, trying to pull his fingers back but body heavy like water on sand. he throws his head back instead, relishing to the feeling yet attempting to regain control of his lust-driven limbs at the same time.

no way this stupid gangly asshole with zero limbs-to-body coordination could be something as dangerous as a ghoul. kyungsoo is a fucking ccg, for god’s sake. if yifan was a ghoul he would’ve known since the start. it’s probably a blood kink or something that he hasn’t discovered after a year of letting yifan get under his pants.

still, the mere idea of it makes kyungsoo even harder.

“just--” breathing becomes shallow with heartbeat going faster and faster each second. what is wrong with him? “just do whatever. anything you want.” takes a deep breath, punches his boyfriend on the gut with a frustrated noise. “jesus fuck stop playing with me!”

“We clean these pretties so we won’t get infected if they accidentally cuts us, hot stuff. Call me if you need anything.” He gives Kyungsoo’s butt a quick squeeze before running towards the rows of refrigerators to avoid any blows Kyungsoo directed at him and start shoving bottles of water and energy drinks inside. He doesn’t take much, only a few amounts of consumables he thinks as necessary before striding to canned food aisle and takes whatever’s left there. He doesn’t want to take too much, in case they need to run from something, being greedy will only bite him back right in his ass. 

Yifan wanders to the cashier’s table, eyeing the scattered packs of cigarettes. Throwing a cautious glance to his back, his hand reaches to the glass cabinet and taking three packs of ciggy and one lighter from there. He shoves his recent loots to his backpack, saving one box and the lighter by pocketing it in case Kyungsoo found out and deciding to throw them away. He was about to go checking on the younger when his eyes fell on the other things on the shelf and Yifan wonders when was the last time they share private moments together.

Feels like forever ago. 

The tall male takes a couple of things on the left side of the shelf, placing it at the bottom of his backpack before allowing his feet to take him to Kyungsoo. Yifan had to hold back his snort when he found the younger, trying to reach for a bottle of rubbing alcohol at the higher place of the shelf.

“Need a hand? Well, a longer hand.” he amends. He know Kyungsoo will sulk if he make fun of his height but hey, older brothers tend to poke fun of their younger ones. No matter what there will always be a part of him that thinks of Kyungsoo as a little brother regardless of how long they’ve crossed the line that separates brotherly love and something more together. Doesn’t mean he romantically love Kyungsoo any less, but it can’t be helped. He babysat the brat since he’s four, some things aren’t that easy to change. 

Yifan wonders if Kyungsoo will explode into a small ball of outraged squish if he carries the shorter male to help him reach the item. Like how he did years and years ago when Kyungsoo wanted the jar of cookies his mother placed on the highest part of their food cabinet. Good times.

another habit that never changed was the constant teasing and joking. yifan seem to take a liking on his height very much, which somehow was stumped that the top of his head only reached the elder’s shoulder. a lot of people finds it cute to his chagrin. but in the end despite not making it to the sports team, he became the school’s drama king instead for his vocal and acting. or at least that’s what he tells himself whenever yifan starts poking fun on it.

“shut up. i’m not short, you’re just overgrowned.” he huffs before bending his knee, eyes locked on the glass bottle. once the soles of his boots left the ground in a single hop he grabbed whatever he could from the shelves brashly. the movement itself caused the glass bottle to slip from his hand and landed on his nose with a ‘crack’ instead. “motherfuc--” he yelps in pain, cursing all sort of swearwords in his dictionary at the sting upon the bridge of his nose while crouching down. 

fortunately, the glass bottle seem to have withstand the impact of the fall from the makeshift cushion that is kyungsoo’s nose, rolling towards a shelf and hitting it with a small clank. the boy continued to swear, warmth settling upon the sore spot along with a faint sting. god if he breaks his nose....

“let’s just...take it and leave.” the wrath that laces each of his words obvious. it could fool anyone if it wasn’t for the tears brimming upon his eyes. fuck, that really hurt. he’d kick the shelves around, but he’s not dumb enough to cause their untimely death. so he glares at yifan instead. “find someplace to stay for the night. i think i saw a rooftop inside the woods earlier.”

Yifan fakes out a pained wince when a hand made a contact with his skin, eyes darting to see the face of his boyfriend and he hold back a grin when the cheeks of the younger man changed into a darker shade of red. “Yes, yes. Now let’s see if I still have first aid kit somewhere,” Truth to be told, he’s sure he doesn’t have one. The young ghoul never needed it before, his own regenerative ability will heal any kinds of wounds as long as he eat properly.

After pretending to rummaging around for awhile, he told Kyungsoo that he can’t remember where he placed the first aid kits while making a mental note to purchase one for future use. It will be very suspicious if he doesn’t have some basic stuffs such as rubbing alcohol or a simple bottle of aspirin. “I’m going for a quick run to buy some band aids. Do you need anything else?”

Hopefully he can skip eating that disgusting pile of goo for breakfast. It will be a huge waste since he still can taste Kyungsoo on his tongue and he wants to let it linger in his mouth for a little longer instead of the taste of vomit, Yifan shudders slightly.

who knew an absolutely intimidating giant at first glance could actually infuriate kyungsoo with his cheekiness? the adolescent-like mental state hidden behind the cold exterior and penetrating glance. when he first took the leap and pulled the other for a kiss after their date he didn’t expect this, for them to become so intimately domestic as if they are already a married couple when their relationship will celebrated its first anniversary soon. 

as a person, he considers himself to be very private and withdrawn. and the first glance upon yifan had him thinking that the elder is just the same. kyungsoo really doesn’t know whether he should be grateful for the misjudgment or to be alarmed by it, but looking at the way yifan’s gummy smile could bring one to his own even in the worst of days has him thinking that maybe, it’s not so bad. to be out of the loop where everything should be consistent and just let things go according to flow.

wu yifan makes him think that he deserves to be happy. and so do kyungsoo becomes happy. 

wait. honestly, has he gone mad from a single tableware cut? to come up with such...thoughts? the do kyungsoo people know is barely a man of feelings. and then again, yifan also makes him ponder about himself a lot. about them. sometimes about the way their voices reverberate through the walls of the elder’s room as he pounded into kyungsoo, wearing the arms of an exhausted male around his neck. 

he doesn’t understand how his body managed to make it’s own move when his eyes never left yifan’s figure, how his uninjured hand managed to pull the elder by the collar of his shirt and let their mouth smack onto each other, teeth clashing messily. but by the time he’s back to his senses he already has yifan in his space, lips soft on each other’s and breaths tickling plump lips.

“you.” his digits bury themselves amidst the silver strands. voice sounding more desperate than he had meant for it to be. “i need you. now.”

“I wouldn’t. There’s no use trying to live in a dying world alone, a dead end is still a dead end.” He mutters, twirling his last throwing knife in his hand. He ended up tucking his knife back to his belt, weighing his spear for a moment before he hurls it at his target with a terrifying accuracy. Someone’s been doing his training in the past four years of apocalypse. 

He barely bats an eye at the smell of decayed flesh, stepping on the motionless corpse as he pulled his spear out from its skull. The older of the two starts collecting his weapons back, ripping the clothes from the walkers he deems as acceptable to help him holding his and Kyungsoo’s dirty knives.

“Can you find some medicines or disinfectant? We need to clean the weapons. I’ll get us some water and maybe drinks with calories. Then we’ll look for food.”

he doesn't quite catch yifan's mutters with the dead moaning and rattling everywhere, but he does catch the taller's skilled hands throwing the makeshift spear to the forehead of the bigger walker dead on. which is no oddity when he remembers the amount of times yifan came home all bloody and bruised before things went this way. he always handles weapons easily, like his hands are meant to hold them, and kyungsoo is still unsure whether to be grateful or worried about that.

"antiseptics? it's not like we're going to cut someone open with these knives." he grumbles a bit, but does what he was told anyway. the doe-eyed boy sheathes back his dagger before walking through the shelves, careful not to step on any walkers because he really doesn't want to wash rotting brain matter off his boots again.

his eyes catch a brown-colored glass bottle on the top shelf of the pharmacy part of the minimarket, vision good enough to make out the word '98% alcohol' printed on it. bingo, he cheers silently with a broad grin upon his features--or at least until he realized his height doesn't exactly support his objective of retrieving the item. kyungsoo bit down on his lips as he tried jumping, a hand outstretched but never quite reaching it.

dammit, how many cartons of milk should he have to make him grow taller?

“Don’t worry about me … when I die, I’m going out with a bang. Something heroic … or stupid enough that everyone will remember it.” He chuckles a bit. “Like falling off my broom.” he teases slightly since that’s what landed him in the medical wing in the first place. Licking his lips he savors every last drop of the other’s cooking. He’d say it was better than his own mom’s, but somehow, someway, he knew his mother would hear about that and would pull on his ear and yell at him. It seemed to be one of her favorite hobbies to personally torture him. “So…Are you going to be making my meals from here on out till I’m better? Because your food is much better than the food at the great hall.” He says with a soft smile on his lips before sticking his tongue out at the other.

Pouting a little bit he wrinkles his nose. “I do not eat like a barbarian. Rude.” He says with a slight snort. “It’s like you’re my mother, always nitpicking.” He says reaching out an arm to poke the other’s nose. It hurt a little, but it was worth the poke. “You’d eat like me too if all you’ve had recently is skele-gro…nasty nasty stuff.” He says making a face. He was not looking forward to his next dose to say the least. “It’s like a compliment really…You’re food is so good I just want to scarf it down.” he says with a smile on his lips before he finally lays back down against the pillows. 

When the other talks about leaving Chanyeol frowns softly and shifts a little bit, wincing as he does so. “I mean you don’t have to leave so soon…you just…got here.” He says glancing up into the other’s eyes. “And Hyuna’s already been around…Didn’t know what to do with herself seeing me all bandaged up like this. Not because she felt bad or anything, but because she wanted to hit me for being so ‘careless and stupid’” He says mimicking her voice eerily well. “and there was nothing that wasn’t broken to hit.” He laughs a little bit before becoming slightly serious with the other again. “It gets kind of lonely here actually…so…I really wouldn’t mind you staying until you had to leave…” His serious moments were getting more and more frequent with the slytherin boy, something that was out of character for the gryffindor. “Believe it or not, I really like you.”  

he tries not to flinch; to not show any sign of weakness. vulnerability is a weakness, and he shouldn't let it show to anyone, especially the gryffindor boy before him. he shouldn't let him see how his feelings towards the latter eats him raw from the inside, fastening ivy around his lungs when they look at each other or everytime chanyeol does his own thing--like blurting out a confession, for example.

then again, pride is a tricky thing to have. sometimes it appears when you least require it, sometimes it disappears in the face of someone you truly cares about. kyungsoo couldn't feel the nails digging onto his palm as his brain wracks for an answer to reject the proposal. anything to not hurt the other, especially with those eyes and face. "i would've mistaken you for a slytherin if the red in your robe wasn't as obnoxious as your hair's." his lips suddenly feels dry and he has to swipe his tongue over it to regain his voice again. "stop looking at me like that. i know you like me, you wouldn't annoy me so much if you weren't."

but in the end, kyungsoo is conquered and chanyeol prevails. he pulls his chair closer towards the bed, fingers swiping a stray strand from the older's eyes when he deems it's too annoying to just ignore. "i'll stay. but you better rest or i will put a sleeping draught on you myself."

rather than afraid for his own life, kyungsoo is more concerned about yifan’s well-being. even as a student he was known for his devil-may-care and cocky attitude, still grinning like a jackass he is even if the universe hit him with a fucking asteroid. if it wasn’t for that why would the other be involved in something like an underground street fight in the first place? really, that reckless side of him is what kyungsoo feared the most. “if you were alone you wouldn’t lasted this long.” he leaves his sentence hanging between the sprays of rotten blood in the air, while his dagger cut another tendon on a female with half-chewed face. no use trying to lecture that dolt about anything.

well, as long as nothing comes to his harm. what can he say?

a pull on his arm has kyungsoo snapping out of his attacking spree, breathing comes in heavy pants while he swings his blade free from the pungent-smelling liquid. “did you get the heads? If so we wouldn’t have to worry about them.” his eyes travel to the forming crowd, spinning the dagger’s hilt around his digits. one… two… “only two remaining. i’ll take care of the smaller one.”

The taller of the two scans their surroundings, eyes glancing from one place to another every time they caught a small movement, head turns at every rustle his ears heard. The makeshift spear clutched firmly in his hold, his body stance tense and alert–ready to engage in any kind of close ranged combat. Exhaustion apparent in his face, dark circles framing his sharp eyes making his youthful face seems years older than his actual age. Few hours of restless nap he took after staying up all night these last few days in a self-assigned watch duty eventually took a toll on his body. 

Yifan squints his eyes at the place Kyungsoo pointing at, calculating the distance and the state of the dusty place. He agrees at the suggestion, jolting slightly when he heard a small growl in from afar. At their nine o’clock two dead people limping at them, snarling and snapping their jaws at the youths. His eyes spot another one coming from the same area as the two walkers, only a few feet further.

“I’ll take care of those three first before we go there. Watch my back.” He playfully swats Kyungsoo’s ass before going to bash some heads. Yifan easily taken care of them, using the length of his spear to put some space between them. He stabs the first walker’s head through its eyes, kicking its now motionless body as he pulls his spear away from its eye socket with ease and familiarity. Yifan killed the other two in the same fashion and he jogs back to Kyungsoo when its done. Normally he’ll try to be fancy and experiments with his zombie slaying style but he can’t afford to do that now that he no longer scavenging in groups of people. Being separated from your group sucks.

“Done.” He flashes his boyfriend a grin. He sees exhaustion on the doe-eyed male’s face and he affectionately rubs the younger’s head. “Are you tired? We’ll take a break in a moment, hang in there.” Yifan takes the latter’s hand in his and he leads the two of them towards the dingy store. He taps the frame of the broken window quite loudly to rouse attention from the residing dead inside. He’d rather take care of those in daylight and where he can see them, it’s safer that way.

“You got your knife?” He watches the staggering shadows coming closer to the entrance of the convenience store and releasing their laced hands to grip his spear with both of his hands, the knife tied at the other end of the staff he’s holding gleaming with brownish stale blood and bits of brain fluids. “They’re coming!” A savage grin found its way to his lips.

it wasn’t as clear, but he still remembers the sleepless nights in the kitchen spent waiting for yifan to come home. the older boy secretly participating in street fights that caused him to come home all bloody and battered, with kyungsoo supposedly ( and blissfully ) unaware of this fact to ease his worry for the elder. back then he understood that his mother had told yifan to take care of his ‘little brother’ in case anything happened to her, but having the truth held back from you sucks. it was like everyone saw him as the short, doe-eyed boy who needs protecting instead of his true self, the red-haired teen who had a taste of the real world even before he get to face it in college.

so he tried to be seen as an equal. he balanced school life, part-time jobs, and taking care of his mother. he did all the chores and cooking around the house without missing a grade–despite costing him his health sometimes. he tried dressing like an adult, acting like one, earning looks from his highschool friends and teachers alike. for god’s sake, he researched for anything that could make the older look at him in the internet.

and yet. even after the world ended, even after their relationship evolved into something romantic since the 50th day, or after being stuck with nobody but each other for nine-hundred days now it’s still yifan who does all the protecting instead of him. it’s still 'yifan-ge’ and 'soosoo’ instead of 'yifan’ and 'kyungsoo’. it’s still him watching the elder’s back instead of feeling his shoulder against his.

( he just wants yifan to see him as an equal. is that too much to ask? )

“speak for yourself. i know you didn’t sleep last night.” he grumbles, although pleased with how easy their hands slots against each others when the older leads him to the abandoned minimart. yifan’s palm felt warm and soft upon his own, comforting, even if the truth is far from that. his eyes travel to the interior of the minimarket. “it’s you whom i’m concerned about. stop treating like i’m some doll.”

after four years of surviving on nothing but simple weapons, they know better than to just march into a building without checking for any walkers first. kyungsoo himself has several knives hidden under his clothings; inside his boots by his legs, a small swiss-knife on the belt, and a dagger on his back. for this occasion, perhaps the dagger would be fitting. he merely nods at the other’s question, unsheathing the weapon from it’s casing. compared to yifan’s his blade are much cleaner.

as brown eyes catch a glimpse of a walker, kyungsoo sneaks under yifan to land a clean hit towards the middle of its eyes. “you should stop treating this like a game, ge. or you might actually get killed.” he reprimands before returning his stance to disable the walkers by their legs, so it’ll be easier for yifan to take them down without much struggling.

yeah, they can probably pass off as a team as well.
