“Whoooa! Is that you, Clay?!” Skyla beamed, eyes widening with surprise. Could it really be him? “Heyy! How are you?” The pilot greeted, smiling at the older gentleman. It was a rare occasion to see the gym leader outside of Driftveil City- due to the fact that he had a huge business to run, along with his gym. It was usually her visiting him in his own home town, but that was really all for business; she would typically deliver, and pick up cargo he had, or things that needed to be sent out to other cities in the region. She walked up to him, beaming all the while at seeing his familiar face around her parts. 

“How are things going back in Driftveil for you? How about your business? I hope all is well!” She asked, tilting her head.

It isn't a surprise that Clay finds himself coming in contact with his red haired colleague the moment he sets foot in Mistralton. Skyla has always been the most friendly sort, and try as he might to sound annoyed at her behavior, Clay really doesn't mind all too much. So, its with a slight chuckle and an almost smile that he tips his hat upon contact with the female. 

“How are things going back in Driftveil for you? How about your business? I hope all is well!”

"M'hmm. Things doin' well enough that I can afford vacation if ya can believe that." He says, all too aware at how rare it is to see him somewhere besides Driftveil.  Though it seems odd, he's certainly too willing to take advantage of this precious vacation time and have a bit of fun once in a while. And despite his idea of fun being rather different from the redhead's, he's more than happy to oblige in some quality time with another leader. "Thought I'd stop by and see if ya were about. Haven't been able to talk with ya 'bout matters that ain't business related, lately."

Ah, now that he got a better look at the man, Steven noted he looked relatively strong, and the odd Pokémon next to him seemed to re-enforce the statement.

In fact, it looked like a steel-type, with those claws. How wonderful.

Redirecting his attention to Clay as he spoke, he gave a small nod.  So, he ran the town? Maybe he was the Gym Leader he had heard of as he had passed by earlier. Most Gym Leaders were in charge of the town the Gym was located in, anyway.

The dressage of the man was very different from what he usually saw, along with the rather stylish, white  hat. How very interesting, and yet slightly reminiscent of mountaineering clothes. A businessman, and at the same time a worker. It’s what he got from appearance, but he wasn’t sure if he was entirely correct.

“Ah, thank you kindly, sir.” Giving a small nod, he reached out to shake the other man’s hand. “I’m Steven. As for what I’d like to know…” He shifted slightly, unsure of how to word it.

It could be considered a rather dull-witted question.

“Would you happen to know much about the gems found in caves here in Unova. Those type-boosting gems.” He might as well start somewhere.

Somehow, this man seemed like the right one to ask, he seemed rather well-informed. Not to mention in-charge.

The cowboy first notices the younger male observing him, as well as his Pokemon, and also notes the politeness in the other's behavior. He nods silently in approval of the other male's politeness. Polite people are just oh so rare in this world lately, in his opinion, as well as people who just seem so intimidated by his rather gruff nature.

Clay returns his hand to his side, offering his Pokemon a side glance before sticking fingers back into his pockets. Excadrill appears to approve of the foreigner, for he doesn't show any signs of hostility, only curiosity. Clay quirks an interested eyebrow at his Pokemon's almost undetected (by many people, anyway) behavior, as the foreigner asks his question.

“Would you happen to know much about the gems found in caves here in Unova. Those type-boosting gems.”

"E'yup. Sure do." Clay offers what can almost be considered a grin. "Good thing my work is done an' I ain't got no need to be busy fer quite a few hours."

He's surprised at the other male's politeness, though not particularly so. Despite Clay's reputation for being a hard fellow to get along with, he's still a fairly respected man, after all! No, what surprises him the most is that some well mannered city boy would be digging about his caves looking for treasure. Because of this surprise and curiosity, Clay doesn't find much of a problem at all in humoring the other male, so to speak. 

"Ain't surprised ya don't know 'bout these gems..." Clay says, pulling a ground gem out of his right pocket. "Native t' here, y'know? Ain't found in any o' the other known regions. Imagine that." He holds up the gem so that the sunlight glints off of it, as if picking out a particularly rare gem for being placed in jewelry. "What's strange, is that despite their rarity, they still react to foreign Pokemon species! Odd, how our world works sometimes, eh?"

Who or what got you into mining?

"Ain't sure why my ma and pa bought me a lil' Drilbur, when I was a babe, but I sure as hell am grateful fer them 'cause o' that. Seein' that lil' guy work 'ard despite his size made me realize that I too can do great things..." Clay lets out a nostalgic sigh as he gazes almost softly in the distance. "Yeah, its thanks t' him that I'm in the field I am today."

Clay doesn't really understand the big deal about breasts. They're just lumpy balls of fat, after all. Yeah sure they're soft and kind of cuddly, but he's totally not much of a boob person. He prefers women with small chests, as he generally finds petite females to be pretty darned cute.

[ Earth ]

Ever since Clay was a babe, he felt a connection to the earth. He received his Drilbur at a very young age, and ever since then, he was intrigued by the Pokemon's capabilities and untapped power. He learned that there were others like Drilbur out there. So many ground-types in this world! And he also learned that there are people who work with the earth as well. Not just ground type trainers, but miners too. That's when Clay decided that he'd become one of those people, but better than the rest!

Looking back, Clay still feels a strong connection with the earth, and he knows that that hasn't changed at all as he grew older. He tackled problems consistently in a steady, unyielding way, not unlike the way the earth holds up against the other elements. No matter what, Clay will be far more intrigued by earth than by anything else.

[ Marriage proposals? :D ]

Clay has never dated anyone long enough to get to that stage of the relationship, and quite frankly, at this moment in his life, he's rather terrified of that stage. Despite his pride in himself, Clay can't fathom the fact that someone could actually want to spend the rest of their life with him. 

If that were to happen, though, he'd take a fairly traditional approach in his proposal. You know, the usual bend down on one knee and hold up an expensive diamond ring, bit. He's rather traditional in general, no thanks to his age, after all. Still, despite that old fashioned approach, there's no denying that Clay would personalize things a bit.

Leadership

Leadership is very, very, very important to Clay. He feels like every group needs someone who can handle the pressure of a leadership role and someone who can guide the others through with wise words and patience. To him, everything, even individual households, needs someone who can take charge when need be.

Of course, Clay is someone who is rather familiar with this role, being the leader of his own Gym, his company, and even, in a sense, Driftveil City. Because of this, he's seen as someone who can fit the leadership role easily by others. Oftentimes, he has a tendency of being the go to guy for keeping things together.

Clay's first Pokemon is his Excadrill. Given to him at a young age for his birthday, Clay took after the then Drilbur rather quickly. The Pokemon inspired him to become a miner, and the two of them took off fast. The Pokemon evolved and grew at a startlingly fast rate, because of his hardworking perseverance. Excadrill didn't mind that all too much, nor did he mind how his trainer behaved. No matter what, Clay's Pokemon is always by his side.

The sun settles its rays upon the cowboy's back and shoulders, eliciting a lazy yawn from his throat and an equally lazy stretch of his back. Its late afternoon in Driftveil, specifically, the best part in the city to bask in the sun's rays. Clay's clearly taking advantage of this situation, as he sits by the waterfront, his Excadrill sleeping perhaps too comfortably by his side. He yawns again, clumsily covering his mouth with one hand before he rubs his eyes. It almost looks like he's bound to fall asleep any moment.

Day in and day out it's just work, work, work, and while Clay isn't complaining at all about that, he's finally happy to seize a lazy, work free day for once. Even someone like him could use a spot of relaxation from time to time, after all! Unsurprisingly enough, these spots of relaxation are few and far between, so its really a bit of an understatement to say that Clay has been looking forward to this day for weeks.

Admittedly, though, Clay kind of wishes that he chose to partake in something more exciting. An agitated glance is sent towards the choppy waves, as he briefly considers taking a swim. Its no fun when he's alone, since his Pokemon is napping and obviously doesn't care much for water, anyway. Then his mind travels towards other potential ways to have fun, though he knows he won't leave his spot. Laziness has finally taken its toll and certainly won't leave unless something or someone happens upon Clay.

Right on cue, someone draws near. "Hm?" Clay thinks as he wonders just who that person might be. His Excadrill merely stirs in his sleep, oblivious as to what might happen next.

If there was one thing Steven liked, it was caves. All sorts of caves. They normally held stones within, although it wasn’t the only place where one could find them. During this recent trip to Unova, he soon found something that certainly made the region different.

Gems.

And it wasn’t the normal type of gem, either. It was a gem that boosted a Pokémon’s strenght. When used, any trainer would thoughtlessly discard it, but the rock-collecting man knew better than to do so. After all, he was curious to know as to what properties, exactly, caused this boost to happen. It was as intriguing as when the Eon Pokémon suddenly traveled to Kanto a short time ago.

Having collected a decent amount, with little trouble from the resident Pokémon, the retired Champion made his way back to a city that was called, if memory served right, Driftveil City. It was quite accommodating, reminding him very slightly of Rustboro and Slateport at the same time. He did arrive there by boat, after all.

He, however, soon ran into an unfamiliar face that seemed to hold some sort of authority. 

Perhaps, from this man, he could learn who knew more about these mysterious gems. Someone could have already done the research. It would save him a lot of trouble. “Excuse me, sir. Do you have a minute?”

Clay is rather similar to Steven in the regard that he's fond of caves. There's something familiar and warm about feeling rough, rocky walls beneath his hands, and various glittering stones beneath his feet. Few things have ever brought him the same amount of joy as one of his mining projects.

He's just finished working on one of his for a day, and looks proudly on at the work he's done. With his prized Excadrill by his side, he walks away from his project. A hand wipes sweat from his brow as he exhales a proud sigh. He's deep in his own pride when he hears the sound of an approaching person.

“Excuse me, sir. Do you have a minute?”

The voice he hears belongs to a figure that is almost familiar, but vaguely so. Clay dimly searches his mind for any recollection of the other male, but nothing really registers. Has he seen him in a magazine? On television? He's certainly not a native of Driftveil, whoever he is!

When Clay observes the younger man, he notices his well kept appearance, which alludes to his importance. Despite that important vibe Clay is getting, its clear that the silver haired man is well worn and intelligent. He's not a pushover, that's for sure. 

Because of this, Clay does stop what he's doing. He even holds out a hand for shaking towards the other male - but not before ridding his digits of dirt. "E'yup. I ain't overly busy today. I practically run this town, so if there's anythin' ya need t' know, don't hesitate to ask. Not every day I come across a foreigner."

“Oh…my.”the girl gaped at the scene in front of her, bowing as she glanced at the group. Thirteen in total. A very large group that was bigger than most of the clumps of students that came to her gym to learn. A lot. Erika stood up straight, seeing a few people she knew or had battled before. Stick she smiled a little bit and nodding in greeting.”Hello you all. What brings you here today? Are you coming for a lesson? Or just a battle?”

Clay hangs in the back of the strange crowd, well aware that Erika's a rather popular Leader. He isn't surprised by that, for she has such a strong elegance and beauty to her, far unlike himself, of course. Not only that, but she offered classes of a different sort, something unrelated to Pokemon, yet something that Clay showed some sort of interest in. It seems like Erika has something to offer to both trainers and gardeners.

After a few moment of what could be considered stalling, the cowboy moves towards the front of the group. As he reaches the front, the girl begins speaking, and for a moment, he swears she's looking right at him.

”Hello you all. What brings you here today? Are you coming for a lesson? Or just a battle?”

"Either would be fine. Mostly came here to check out what plants ya have 'round here, since yer a grass-type trainer an' all. I s'pose a battle wouldn't be bad, nor would a lesson in flower arrangin'." Clay shrugs, speaking plainly as usual. He's wealthy and on vacation, so he honestly can afford to spend extra time here if he wishes. "Anyway, name's Clay, miss. I'm a Gym Leader from Unova."

Are there any gym leaders you particularly dislike?

Can't think o' anyone in particular, actually. I don't really like people in general, but I find myself respecting th' other Gym Leaders enough t' at least tolerate 'em. I admire others who work hard, even if our personalities clash.

I suppose, if I had to pick someone I don't get along with as much as th' others, I'd have to mention Cress. He's a fine lad, but I feel like he's a bit too focused on his own presentation and appearance than anything else.

Would you happen to have a preference as to how you train your Pokémon?

"Despite what my appearance may lead ya t' think, I ain't really that hard on my Pokemon! I prefer a softer, nurturin' environment, though I can be a bit tough on 'em. Trainin' exercises tend to last quite a bit, and are a bit strenuous, after all." Clay says with a slight chuckle, and what can be considered a grin on his face. "On a daily basis, I devote a good hour or so t' trainin' an' groomin' my Pokemon. The trainin' sessions can range from playtime t' actually battlin'. Sometimes, when I've been havin' challengers lately, I'm a bit relaxed when it comes to keepin' my Pokemon fit."
