I really feel this
so women are supposed to grin and bear the books, the comics, the movies, the plays, the tv shows, the stories, the sci-fi, the translated ancient poems, the fucking millennia of men writing about their self inserts torturing women and it being declared as High Art by other men, weāre supposed to read it in our free time, study it in classrooms, include their styles in our own writing, accept their cultural influence as natural, watch it in the cinema, write about it, talk about it, accept it, aspire it, but men canāt tolerate three seconds of female wish fulfilment of a woman snapping the wrist of a creep without feeling personally kicked in the balls.
This reminds me of something I observed in college while I was doing my honors thesis on women in modern horror films. I watched a LOT of horror during that time as part of my research, and sometimes that was done with my family around.
And my dad and brothers? Were deeply disturbed by the movie Jenniferās Body. I was flabbergasted. Itās not scary! Itās not even that gory. But they were horrified by it. These men who grew up on 70s slashers were legitimately shook by 90 minutes of Megan Fox eating a few teenage boys, mostly off-screen.
Similarly, my all-male reading panel for my thesis? Were so disturbed by my synopsis of the film Teeth that they couldnāt even talk about it. One of them said he couldnāt look at his wife for a week after reading it.
Again, grown-ass men who study and teach media for a living. Who definitely watch and enjoy horror movies. One of whom was a huge Tarantino buff. We watched and read worse in his intro to mass media class! But one movie about a girl whose vag could bite was enough to haunt him.
Then of course you have things like the Gone Girl backlashāmen yelling that Amy Dunne is evil and women clamoring to assure everyone that they know she is not someone to emulateāthe backlash against Carol Danvers, and, more recently, the griping from MRAs against the upcoming film Hustlers, which is about strippers scamming their Wall Street clients.
My conclusion? Most menāat least most straight, cisgender men, who are both my sample population and most of the ones whining that Carol is a āvillaināāare perfectly fine with, and desensitized to, media where men do violence to women (horror movies), or men do violence to men (horror and action movies). Theyāre even sort of fine when women do violence to women (āooooo cat fight!ā).
But they get intensely uncomfortable when women are depicted doing any kind of violence to men, especially in films that tilt the balance of power to the other side of the m/f gender binary beyond a single moment or scene.
So woman as flesh-eating monster with men as her preferred cuisine? Woman who responds to unwanted sexual contact by biting it off? Woman who frames her cheating husband for murder? Woman whose response to harassmentābehavior that many of the loudest whiners know is both creepy and reflective of their own thoughts/actionsāis to break something?
Too scary. Unacceptable. Disturbing. These men hate being presented with the idea, even in fiction, that their position of power is socially constructed, that it could easily be flipped the other way. It terrifies them.
In feeling that terror, they experience a tiny modicum of what living, existing, moving, being perceived as a woman in the world is like.
And they flinch every time.

I wasnāt vaccinated and never got sick so
And I swam and didnāt drown.
Anecdotes arenāt evidence. The reason YOU specifically didnāt get sick is because of something called Mass Immunity.
That means that since everyone ELSE is vaccinated (youāre welcome), thereās nowhere for the virus to establish a hold. That mass immunity is the only thing that keeps people who CANNOT vaccinateālike the immunocompromisedāfrom catching it.
The second that people stop vaccinating, that immunity disappears and the disease resurges, as is clear from the fact that the US is currently experiencing an epidemic of a disease that was projected to become extinct in our lifetimes.
Get immunized. Thereās no reason not to.
Considering that thereās a whole host of people in my age range who werenāt vaccinated enough (even I was missing the second dose of MMR until recently) getting the measles and the mumps I think itās ridiculous that weāre arguing over a life and death situation. Literally, do you want to live or die?
Another reason I donāt think people consider: I had three doses (one more than usual) of the measles/mumps/rubella vaccine. But after getting strep throat in southwest France in 2009 (where it was apparently fashionable not to vaccinate kids for a while, and where there had been a sudden measles outbreak) I got the measles. AND IT SUCKED.
It wasnāt because the vaccine didnāt work. It was because my immune system was weaker than usual. Everyoneās immune system has to deal with strep or colds sometime, so not vaccinating your offspring seriously does put everyone around you at riskāāeven if they made a smarter decision than you.
VACCINATE YOUR FUCKING KIDS 2015Ā
Itās almost 2019 and this is still relevant

āMust have reliable transportationā =Ā āthis is how we legally discriminate against poor people who take the busā
As someone who has held several management positions with hiring responsibility, this is true. The boss at my last job informed me before I conducted my very first I interview,
āYou canāt outright ask someone if they have a car or have kids. Thatās technically illegal. But you need to know because sometimes they can be deal breakers. You can just say āDo you have reliable transportation?ā and āDo you have any current circumstances that could impede you from being successful at work?ā
To which the last one most people fumble and would say, āWell I have kids, so sometimes they could get sick. But thatās not often.ā But then your potential employer could mark it down on your interview notes nonetheless.
I thought that maybe it was just my own employer. But now I noticed that I am asked both of these almost every time I interview for a job.
Language is very sneaky. Be careful how you answer. Corporations can be snakes.
In my businesses class my professor told us that the bus counts as reliable transportation. You do not legally have to say āI take the busā just say āyes I do have reliable transportationā and leave it at that. Do not over share. DO NOT OVER SHARE. The second question just say no. If your kids are sick call out as if you are sick. I donāt have kids but I myself can get sick and that doesnāt hinder my ability to succeed so kids getting sick shouldnāt hinder you. When I call out I give as little info as possible. No one needs to know why you call out. They canāt ask about your āillnessā because it violates HIPAA if they do. So as long as you donāt offer more info than you need to you should be okay.
Iāve never thought about it like this.
You should keep everything to yourself as much as possible including social media (which is getting harder and harder to do) the less you offer the better.
