How have you been? Are we going to get any new chapters soon

I’ve been good. Honestly, I’ve been hanging out with my friends a lot since the semester has ended and working. Very soon, I’m going to be working full time for the rest of the summer so honestly I don’t know when I’ll continue posting chapters. I guess as inspiration comes.

the main problem here is there shouldn’t be people annoyed by how you handle your own time, babe. you don’t owe them anything. not easy, but pls try to avoid those narratives getting into your head and take care of yourself <33

I hope you guys remember that this is just a hobby for me and I do have a life, university, and a job outside of this. I have received some messages and asks from people that don't seem to get that. I do not get paid from this and I do not always have time to write or the inspiration. This is simply for fun when I'm feeling inspired and you guys supporting me is always a plus! It honestly makes me feel discouraged when SOME people are pushy about me uploading. Of course I understand being annoyed when I stop writing for a while but please just remember what I said at the beginning of this post.. I do not mind people asking when the next chapter is coming and stuff btw :) There's just certain messages from people that seem to forget I'm a person with a life outside of Tumblr and writing.

tension - chapter twenty-seven

I don’t think I’ve ever hated being away at school as much as I hate it now. Now, I had a girlfriend who I wanted to be around. To think I’d be wanting to be around her as much as I do when I used to hate being around her was an interesting thought. Luckily, the rest of the semester after break went by pretty quickly and I was back home before I knew it.

To say I was burnt out from finals would not be a lie. My brain literally felt fried. The only good thing about the drive home from school was that it was nice out so I drove home with the windows down, sunglasses on, blasting music.

I decided to stop to get a fun little drink on the way home so I stopped at a place by my house. The only thing that sucked about it was that it didn’t have a drive thru but, you know what, it encouraged me to not be lazy.

I walked inside to grab the mobile order I’d placed on the app. I had kind of been in my own world as I walked over to the counter and grabbed my drink. 

My phone buzzed as I grabbed my drink so I took it out and saw it was a text from Paige, she’d sent a photo. I opened the notification and saw that it was a photo of me grabbing my drink just now. 

I looked up and saw Paige standing in the store with a little smile. I shut my phone off and walked over with my drink in my hand.

“Hey.” I smiled.

“Hey.” Paige said in response.

She leaned down and placed a quick kiss on my lips. It felt weird kissing in front of other people. Not bad. Just different. We both pulled away after a short moment.

“What are you doing here?” I asked as I sipped my drink.

“What do people usually do at soda shops?” Paige playfully responded. I just rolled my eyes. Before I could say anything else, we heard a worker call Paige’s name. “Be right back.” Paige said.

Paige went to the counter and grabbed two drinks. She then walked back over to me. “You got two drinks?” I asked.

“Yeah, well, I was going to surprise you with a drink at home and be, like, a good girlfriend but.” Paige responded. “Think I’ll just keep yours for myself.” She then teased.

“No, I’ll take it.” I held my free hand out to which Paige put a drink in my hand. “I always drink through my drinks fast anyway.” I shrugged.

We both walked out of the store and Paige walked with me to my car. I opened the door and put my two drinks in the cup holder before I stood back straight up.

“Do you know if we’re, like, doing dinner tonight?” I asked. I wasn’t sure if we were having our little dinner with our two families tonight or tomorrow, I just knew it was either or.

“Yeah, at yours tonight.” Paige told me.

“Guess I’ll see you in a few hours.” I told her.

“Yep.” Paige said. She then leaned down and kissed me again, a little deeper this time. I kissed her in return but then she pulled away. “Missed you.” She said, like it wasn’t a big deal, before ruffling my hair and walking off to her car before I could respond.

It didn’t matter much because a few hours later, the doorbell rang and I went to open it to let the Buecker’s inside. I opened the door and said hey as Bob, Mo, Drew, and lastly Paige walked inside. The thing was, our family didn’t exactly know Paige and I were a thing yet so we couldn’t just kiss each other in greeting or anything.

Paige and I didn’t say anything to one another but as the others walked in front of us to the kitchen, I felt her put her hand on my back, giving it a rub before she dropped her hand down. I glanced at her and she poked my side before stopping when we walked into the kitchen where everyone was.

My mom had me set the table before everyone got to the house so all anyone had to do was bring the food to the table and get themselves a drink.

I grabbed a cup and filled it with ice and water, not wanting anything but it since I’d had two sodas earlier. Paige came up behind me and I did my best to ignore the way it made my heart race.

Paige grabbed a drink and stood next to me for a moment, “How about I sleep over tonight?” She suggested.

I made eye contact with her. “Okay.” I agreed, nodding a little.

“Okay.” Paige said before she stepped back with the drink she’d grabbed and headed to the table.

We both went to the dining table where everyone was and sat down next to each other. Paige’s hand went down to my thigh and gave it a squeeze before we both put food on our plates. I served myself as well before I began to eat.

“So, girls, how were your spring semesters?” Bob asked Paige and I.

“Good.” I simply responded.

“Same.” Paige followed.

“Are you dating anyone, Lucia?” Mo asked.

I didn’t know what to say at that moment. I hesitated before saying, “Oh, uh, no.” I glanced down before I put my hand on Paige’s thigh under the table. Paige just nodded a little, in an almost annoyed manner.

“What about you, Paige?” My mom then asked.

“No.” Paige shortly answered as she gently pushed my hand off her thigh. I glanced at her after. I couldn’t help but wonder if I said something wrong. I thought we weren’t telling them yet.

The rest of the dinner went on normally but all I could worry about was that I’d said something wrong. After the dinner finished, our parents were all in the living room talking with wine and I went onto the back porch.

I sat down at the chair on the deck. I couldn’t stop thinking about what happened at dinner. I was broken out of my thoughts when I heard the sliding door open and Paige walked out.

As soon as she shut the door she asked, “So, you’re single?”

“Huh?” I responded.

“What? You said you weren’t dating anyone.” Paige said as she sat down next to me.

“I thought we were not going to tell them yet.” I pointed out.

“I’m not the one who wanted that.” She reminded me as she sat down next to me. “You’re the one scared for them to know you like girls.”

“I’m not scared for them to know that. I just- I wasn’t sure if you wanted them to know we were together.” I responded.

“What have I done to make you think that?” Paige asked.

“I don’t know. That’s just what I thought.” I admitted.

“I’m the one who asked you to be my girlfriend.” Paige reminded me. “I’m not ashamed of you.”

“But won’t it be weird in front of them? Like, to be coupley.” I asked.

“I really don’t care how they feel about it. You’re my girl.” Paige said.

“I kind of care.” I admitted.

“Why?” Paige asked.

“Because I’m scared of what they’ll think and how things will change.” I admitted.

Paige let out a sigh. She put her arm around me and pulled me against her. “Are you scared of them.. or of us being real?”

“But we are real.” I said, but I couldn’t help but think she was maybe right.

“Not to other people. This will really make us real.” Paige said.

I just looked down and sighed because she was right. All I’ve wanted for the past few months was for us to be really real. I was finally getting it now and it scared me.

Paige leaned in and kissed me softly. It worried me that someone would see but I pushed through it and kissed her back. As we were kissing, the door began to open so we both pulled away.

Drew leaned out of the house to talk to us, “They want to talk to you guys. Don’t know about what.”

I nervously put my hair behind my ear, “Oh, yeah. Okay.”

Drew closed the door and walked back inside. I looked at Paige, “What if someone saw?”

“I doubt that.” Paige responded. “Come on. Let’s just see what they want.”

We walked inside and into the living room. Our parents looked at us and told us to sit. Wait, did they actually see?
