Homer's Odysseus biggest problem was being a prideful bastard who relied too much on his mind and luck.

Nolan's Odysseus biggest problem is that he's a brute whose only plans are fight, run and hide, and most of the time he can't do two of them at the same time, but they're still trying to sell him as a genius estrategist...

In the epic, they only hide among the sheep After blinding the cyclops because fucking obviously he could tell them apart from the sheep. In the movie they just run for it??? No fucking shit they got killed???????

In the epic, Odysseus gets tied up so he can listen to the sirens because they're the ones who tell him to go to Scylla. In the movie, Tiresias already told him. Why the fuck does he still do it?? Did he just want to see what'd happen or what?

And most of the other parts of the poem meant to show how smart he is got written out. Polyphemus lives alone, so Ody doesn't need to do the "my name is nobody" trick. Circe is just some scared witch, so he only needs to talk her down. The wedding bed changed to a very stealable Athena pin (I think that's in the poem too, but not as proof that it's really him, just a gift from Penelope)

Does Odysseus not know how the ocean works? He lives in an island, why did he build the horse so close to the shore? I think this is the first time I've seen Ithaca's men die during the trojan war, and it wasn't even fighting, they just drowned in shit water what the fuck

Achilles's speech in the Hades would have been perfect for the movie, it's the same sentiment as Odysseus's final speech, from a man who had a very different ending than him. I wasn't really expecting them to adapt it, I'm just saying it's a wasted opportunity.

Agamemnon was actually cool as fuck, he looks so powerful and bigger than life. I'd low-key would've just watched movies about Telemachus and/or Agamemnon bc theirs were the only parts I liked.

Having said that, and idk if this is nitpicking, but Helena and Clytemnestra being identical twins is such a weird choice. The entire reason the war started is because Helena is the most beautiful mortal in the world, the title makes less sense when there's another girl identical to her, doesn't it??

Also my friend said they should have made Agamemnon's murder more brutal, cause in the original he gets fucking beheaded with an axe; a couple of stab wounds feel underwhelming in comparison

Eurylochus did NOT fw Ody, it was almost sad. They kinda reminded me of Dumbledore and Snape from A Very Potter musical, "I love my best friend :)" "IhateyouIhateyouIhatey". I don't think they ever explain their relationship? And they never have any moments that even hint at a real friendship, it's just Ody giving orders and Eurylochus either listening unhappily or disobeying, flipping him off, and blaming him when the plan fails even though he was the one that fucked it up.

Odysseus explicitly told the crew not to go with the Scylla, the man wanted to go around Charybdis. Eurylochus disobeys, gets 6 men killed, and then tries to say it's because Odysseus didn't tell them??? Tell you what, brother? He fucking told you not to go there like twice, ts is on you. When they eat the cow it doesn't feel like betrayal, it feels like the same shit he's been pulling all movie, I'm more surprised they didn't stab Ody this time.

I really like the idea of mixing the lotus with Calypso, but where exactly is she getting them?? Girlie lives in a wasteland

Why is Calypso just some girl??? Nolan made the (male) gods forces of nature and the goddesses random, scared women :/ is that not a bit fucking rude

I really really liked Tiresias design, he's one of my favorite side characters in every version, the hood covering his eyes and the cape making him almost look like he's fused to the ground omfgggggggg

I didn't think for a second the phaeacians were going to make it in, but we got a Demodocus replacement and that's enough for me

Troy's armours would've been super cool in like a fantasy/dnd thingie but seemed out of place in the movie.

like I mean this very seriously as writing advice. the character should experience events and make decisions that make them different at the end of the story. they should be changed. they do not have to be improved.

they can get worse. they can make decisions of an increasingly terrible nature. they can stop taking risks on kindness. they can discover how much they can get away with. they can find religion, or abandon it, with negative effects on their moral creed. the character has to develop. the character does not have to grow.
